Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan says his administration will continue to support all activities geared towards improving teaching and learning in all institutions in the state.
Dr. Uduaghan made the commitment while declaring open the 50th Annual National Conference and Golden jubilee celebration of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), holding in Asaba, Delta State.
Dr. Uduaghan who was represented by his deputy,  Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), said the theme of the conference ‘Mathematics for National Development’, is all-embracing and illuminating as it touched on several socio-economic issues that affect the people, adding that Mathematics as a subject, was important to every field of study.
“It is little wonder, therefore, that even in the arts and humanities, mathematics was considered a requirement, especially in admission processes in our university”, he said.
While commending the body for promoting the study of mathematics through curricula development and textbooks, he expressed hope that solution from the conference will provide teaching methods and techniques that would make mathematics more learner-friendly.
The governor who launched the new Mathematics books for both primary and secondary schools with the  sum of N7.5 million, assured that the state will continue to encourage and expose children in schools to academic competitions with a view to enhancing their academic potentials, thereby inspiring them and other youths to be part of  the sustainable development of the state.
Uduaghan who urged  the participants to explore various opportunities to improve on their teaching skills and learn new trends of teaching mathematics,  noted that the gap between the technologically advanced nations and the rest of the world was increasing daily, saying that any technological breakthrough always centered on the effective mastery of mathematics.
Earlier, the National President of MAN, Prof. Uche Agwagah, had in her address said   that the theme of the conference was apt, considering the fact that the body was making effort to provide the type of education that will meet the challenges of the 21st century knowledge-based society.
She explained that MAN was positioning itself to contribute more meaningfully and sustainably to national goals especially within the framework of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Vision 20:2020.
The Director General, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Prof. Tunde Solarin, in his keynote address said mathematics will continue to play a significant role in national development, which according to him, was conceived as the capacity of a nation to apply technology of the exploitation of the natural resources of any nation.
Prof. Solarin, noted that the nation’s exploitation will rely heavily on mathematics for laying the foundation for political, governmental, scientific, technological and economic developments, adding that without mathematics, there was no science, and no development or modern society.

And due to reasons unknown to deltans he handed over several public schools to the mission.

The fees rose from thousands to hundreds of thousands.

He should clap for himself.

This governor has no idea how he should lead the state. Roads are a disaster until recently schools too. Public schools have been reduced with the return schools to missionary campaign(where the less financially capable people can't pay the resulting huge school fees). He is still fixing the road leading to effurun road-about for the sixth year. If not for Ibori, warri would have been more terrible than it is now because uduaghan has not added any project to the ones Ibori did until recently Enerhen junction. He banned bikes even when he knows he has not constructed new roads or expanded existing ones and he even made everything worse by bringing big buses that cover the road such that it becomes difficult for smaller vehicles to move faster. There is no pattern in the way he executes project. As a matter of fact he is the most clueless governor the state will ever get.
I don't want to start counting everything but I'm sure other members will help me out.
