Rather than insist on tax the govt should insist that businesses of religious organizations should render affordable best of services that could complement govt efforts. After all the taxes they have collected are yet to benefit the masses. |

SUBMARINE: Yes we must pay our taxes just as Jesus instructed us. But may I ask the ogun state govt, the air they breath do they pay for it.? Lets be wise enough to avoid unknowing showing ungratefulness to God. Is the school free? These churches tax the church members in building these schools (including versities) n 80% of the congregation can't afford the fees.... hence they can't even pay tax. surely dis is end time tins |

SUBMARINE: Although Christ told us to pay our tax, I believe a wise govt should avoid taxing businesses of religious organizations, seeing it as their way of apprenciating God's mercy. But wetin consain gobblement and Gods' mercies. |

Standing5: Jobless tax collectors. You are not right. Jesus Christ never questioned the govt about performance before paying His tax. Nobody is above the law, the constitution states that they should pay, therefore they must comply. The #2m is less than 30 students' fee for a term. Pls read Titus 3:1. Jesus' apostle who attacked a government official was corrected by Christ, Jesus Christ himself respected the officials who came to arrest him. 1 Like |

The govt can give businesses of religious bodies two options which are 1) Complement govt effort by providing affordable excellent services and be tax exempted (2) Make serious profit and be taxed. |

Kogi Govt Offsets Seven-Year Electricity Bills Published September 1, 2013 www.savidnews.com/kogi-govt-offsets-seven-year-electricity-bills/ Now, if a state government could accumulate NEPA bill for 7years without paying a penny...Why should anyone force me to pay my bills..?? I am a Christian, and I will mercilessly beat up and malhandle any s¡lly thug that feels he can do anything to me or my business entity.. Christianity doesn't mean m.u.m.u.. My kind of Christianity will deal mercilessly with any demon on skin.. I give unto ceasar what belongs to ceasar.. in cash or in "kind". Thank you and don't quote me if you have any senseless imagination. |

Name me a country in which you can refuse the revenue authority from going through any business records? ...to assault an agent would be asking for a long time in prison...to detain them you would more likely be facing kidnapping and many more charges...to destroy the state property is even more charges. The wrath of the state will be on you and prison will be your home for years and years to come. But here we are...no charges filed. Is the State afraid of the Church? Is the Church above the law? |
Re: Winners Chapel Workers Fight Ogun State Tax Men by biodunid: 12:15pm On Sep 07, 2013 |
Taxes must be paid by every employee of every establishment under that business empire be it church or whatever and by every employee including the 'Bishop'. While the tax codes in Nigeria and elsewhere allow CHARITABLE institutions to not pay taxes they must be shown to stay strictly within the definition of charities and their employees are not covered by this exemption. Employees of NGOs in naija pay taxes and even the pope would pay tax if he did not live in his own independent country, the Vatican. As we all know naija churches, particularly Winners and its partners in 'progress', are very far from even the widest definition of charity so in any sane clime even the institutions within the Winners empire should all pay taxes until they can prove that they deserve to be considered charities. And pls spare us the pabulum about not performing your charity before men. This is about the law and not about any twisted rendering of bible verses. Pls note that Jesus himself paid tax even though he had to perform a miracle to find the money. To restate: every component of the Winners empire from the church to the pure water business and from the 'Bishop' to the gateman must pay taxes in accordance with Nigerian law and global norm. If the governor of Ogun state, despite being an accountant, doesn't know this or lacks the will to implement and allows the greatest 'industrial sector' within Ogun state, Winners and all the mega 'camps' along the Lagos - Ibadan 'expressway', to evade the tax law he shall be held responsible. Maybe it is time governments in Nigeria are sued for failing to perform their duty i.e. collect taxes in accordance with the law. Any good lawyer in the house willing to take this brief? |

Attack the school for evading taxes(if they did) and not the church if you must be a fool to comment using insulting words! Christ said, pay ur taxes as individuals and organisations, but to tax a church(an organism(the body) with Christ as the head) will be inappropriate cos it will mean they are being double taxed and besides, what are you taxing the church for ? If the government needs them to pay taxes, let them go ahead and give ceasers' to ceaser ! Anyway that's not the issue here. The school should pay their tax if they are owing. Please don't call the church names becos they aren't the culprit here but the school and her employees who might not even be 'Christians' ! My attending a Christian school does not make me a christian so it is with a teacher or staff of a Christian school ! God help us |

Delafruita: how did his asset become so large?irrespective of how large his assets are, should the government be deprived of its due?besides acording to the report below, they owed for over 7years.so in seven years, daddy G. O never bothers to know that a school founded by his church which charges almost 200,000 naira for a JSS1 student hasnt paid taxes. may we have evidence you so claim to have? i mean the video where your men where beaten up as you so claim? |

software man: Waiting for response from the church? Of course you can guess what it will be. They won't address the real issues. What they would most likely do is to play the religious card or look for some kind of extraneous sentiment to cling to. |
