Mr Aboki: I'm very much in support of Universities charging a justifiable tuition fee..

YEAH!!! I know say people dey suffer for country .. BUT! I was raised to understand that Education is not only expensive but also priceless. If your papa no fit afford to send you go Private University or Abroad, then I'm sorry, you have got to hussle hard. Na life na ehn share card no give you WHOT.. grin

Okay! I know say some people don set to curse this shoe-shining Aboki.. grin Please heres my Logic;

1. A University is an expensive venture to run and operate. Go ask MIT and Harvard how much it costs them to maintain their high standards. #In Pidgin:: Better soup and money have alot in common..

2. The Nigerian government obviously lacks the ability to run anything not even a race.. Look at all their failed ventures like: NITEL, NEPA, PHCN, WATER BOARD, e.t.c.. Just like in business, the only successful Educational institutions in Nigeria are all privately run. NO SURPRISES. So if we need progress in the Educational system, we need to privatise all our Federal Univeristies and even state Universities.. Or make them autonomous.. Let them charge their own fees and determine their own salary structure. Saves us the problem of ASUU strike. However, the power of NANS should be preserved and fine tuned in a way.

3. MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS!!!! Ghen! Ghen!!!! SO the government through the ministry of education can set up a scholarship fund system based on merit. If your CGPA|CWA drops below a certain benchmark, you get a certain percent of your tuition in scholarship. It can be graded upwards to accomodate average - top class students. If you are below average, you either buckle up or make your daddy get a good paying job to pay for your tuition. #Period!

I believe that this will bring about a serious turn around in our education system, eliminate all these half baked graduates that only went to school because it was free|cheap and poorly run..

#Thats all..

Thats why many Abokis no dey even bother to go school... grin

This guy too dey make sense, ur wife dey make big mistake by holding you for shirt ooo, tell am say i say say intelligent guys no plenty ooo

even if ASUU would get some monetary benefits at the end, does it means we should not support them. This has to do with the QUALITY OF EDUCATION in nigeria. If the quality of education is good do you think that our leaders would be able to celebrate there wads graduation from foreign universities publicly.

I'm disappointed in the professor. School fees are not the only source of revenue for universities. Our universities lack funds because the lecturers are not involved in productive research activities. Most of the lecturers became professors through retrospective paper studies. This is evident in the quality of graduates produced. The issue of appointment of VCs should be taken seriously. Most of them are not resourceful. According to Prof. Nebo, universities have the capacity to be self-sustaining.

Mr Aboki:

i hope you also are aware of the problems associated with student loan scheme in the U.S.. American students graduate and spend a good part of their working years repaying these loans.. Now merge that with the scarcity of jobs in the U.S.. So you are indebted from graduation till death.. i doubt anybody would want that.

I agree that the government should still keep injecting money into schools whether autonomous or not. But generally subsidizing education on a blanket scale is part of the problem.

Ye am aware, but if u look at it this loan money is helping the economy grow. They know you won't be able to pay the loan back in your life time, but they trying to encourage people to go to school , so they won't have an excuse and say its expensive. Of course people will always abuse the system. There are still jobs in the US, its just that the manufacturing jobs that employ the bulk of people who don't have degrees is reduced or gone to china. Plus the financial tightening of bank lending , means u cant just open any company anyhow like before. If it was b4 employers will employ more people becos they knw they get more loan from the bank whether the business is bad or not and more people can start business in any field even though it looks risky. I guess is getting better now but its not like before.

This ASSU Strike is just greediness, i think they should employ this professors in Nigeria base on Contract so they knw that their income is fixed until its expired then they can negotiate. The Universities in Nigeria shouldn't be federal any more it should be state and they should be run by private companies, and the government will just monitor it. Becos Naija govt cannot manage anything, if not Universities suppose to be somehow free (tuition fees is collected from taxes) in some socialist country u just pay for book and the rest. Naija right now is just mixed socialist communism capitalist all of them join. undecided

Reference:

Yes, I will by paying any fees or forsaking the whole thing and getting something rlse to do. University education is not the ways and means to all in life. At least that's what you can see on the streets everyday.
