Whenever the tenets of social order and principles of democracy is tested anywhere in this country, trust that SW will respond in defense of society, There has never been a time in the history of this country since 1914 that the Yorubas have not spoken up or stood up, at great risks and when others are intimidated, to act as the activist and defender of human liberty and right to live.

In the worst instance, the July coup and the war, Yoruba did not shed Ibo blood, even while still grieving the massacre of Yoruba sons and a daughter in the hands of cold blood Igbo murderers just six months earlier. A Yoruba Governor stood up with his life against what was wrong and ended up killed along with his Igbo guest. Yoruba leaders sent wire and ordered that all Ibos must be rounded up and deported, before their predator come after them and spill their blood in Yorubaland. When Biafra attacked Yoruba soil, the same voices that shielded them from predators also called for a defense of the soil against Ibo takeover. When the war ended, these leaders were also responsible for ensuring that every returning Ibo with "proof" of property or investment got their entitlement returned to them in full.

What can be more honorable and admirable than a stand for justice and fairness even in one's own discomfort ?

Similarly, post the war, whether in military or civilian governments Yoruba remained the conscience and custodian of social order for this country. There are too many to itemize, let's fast forward.

Ibos are redefining their political identity and space within a changing awareness and ideology in the Eastern quarter and they are hoping, at most, that their legacy political majority is still intact sufficiently that they can carry everyone else in that quarter along with them in an emerging restructuring along economic independence and political self-sufficiency, particularly given the sour history with neighbors and against the tide of a newly discovered political brat - the Ijaws! Therefore, it is imperative that when the honor of political institutions are tested, SE leaders ought to fit in and demonstrate a resolve to lead and carry their quarter of the nation.

A Goverment House was besieged and the democratically elected Governor barricaded from entering his abode, denied access and right of way into seat of Government; this happened right in that quarter of the nation where Ibos are the supposed political kings...yet, not a single outrage from the Governors of SE. Can this sort of thing happen in Yorubaland without a massive blow out on radio, tv, news print and march onto public squares? Never!

Will the real Eastern leaders please speak up!

@OP
Just want to ask if distortion of facts and propaganda is a Yoruba thing.
1.Pre- civil war, the Yoruba's were not in any position to be doing all the lies you spewed up there
2. Shouting every time the wind ruffles a leaf is really not activism, it is called propaganda. Most Nigerians are pretty aware of the tendency of your people to shout a lot for nothing, and they do not take you seriously. If you doubt me, Ask Amaechi, why his friends registered PDM instead of joining your APC.
3. All you are saying here boils down to noise, shouting again and some opportunism. When someone is besieged he is surrounded without access. To help with your English, Amaechi was rerouted to the Government house, which is why he was clearly reported as having taken an alternative route to his destination.
4. If we must extend this as you are trying to do, note that the police acted quite accurately by securing the safety of the Governor from an area that was tense and highly charged. Beyond that, we are all also aware of the penchant of the democratically elected Governor to throw away all sense of decorum and join open fights, these antecedents of his Excellency are well documented. Given the fact that the police can not prosecute him for such actions until he steps down, it only makes sense to reroute him to saner environments, where he will not be tempted into physical violence. So doing ensures that the police can maintain law and order, Amaechi is a danger even to himself.

This is not the first time you have rascally demonstrated the mentality of a fellow who has issues with good knowledge of events and how they relate to human beings. I suggest you go back to school. There is no doubt your propagandist forbearers did not teach you that characters such as Chief Rami Fani-Kayode, Mr. Lalekan Salami, Mr. O Falade, Alhaji Busari Obisean, Chief B Olowofoyeku and Chief A Adeyi assisted the soldiers from northern region of Nigeria in killing indigenes of eastern region in general and Ndigbo in particular.

There is no doubt a felon such as you did not know that in democratic setting, rule of law reigns supreme. Law and order are respecter of nobody yet there are limited and unending avenues to seek a redress. In USA, when ordinary county police chief closes a road, even the president of the country will either re-route or seek alternate remedy to address the situation quietly.

I guess moronic sycophants such as you, with skewed stream of thought what democracy is, have given the jokers called governors in Nigeria the alacritous platform to think of themselves as Emperors instead of elected servants of the states.

I know, this is another illiterate Igbo-bashing thread, but I can't resist the funny approach.
First Rotimi Amaechi is not Igboman, he's is Yoruba and prefers to be know as the later.
That said, what makes you thinks Igbos would be rushing to save him?
Many Igbos would gladly nodge him gently and silently more towards the death cliff, and wouldn't shade a drop of tear when he falls to his death!
Thank God for the Akpabios, Uduaghans of this World who needs a political destitute called Rotimi Amaechi

The average yorubaman cannot be trusted. This minute he comes out
charging to fight the next minute he is retreating in the face of stiff
opposition. He does not have courage.Fear and cowardice rules him.
History is replete with how a yoruba man will not comfront the
challenges facing us as a country frontally.
Brigadier Ogundipe was saddled with the responsibility of taking charge
of the army as the most senior officer when Ironsi was killed and what
did he do?He bolted to London.Generals Diya,Olanrewaju and Adisa(I do
not think they deserve those ranks anyway)organised a coup and was
foiled and what did they do?own up to their deeds? A thousand times no.
It was a bemused Nigerians watching these shameful Generals crying and
begging Al mustapha and Abacha for clemency.Diya was especially seen
Kneeling and weeping before Abacha while the latter gave him a white
hanky to wipe off his tears.Never have we heard in the history of Nigerian
army where a general was weeping and begging for mercy.
Sofolahan sold Kudirat the same way Judas sold Jesus. They sold Abiola to
Abacha in exchange for Dollars. These are the kind of people Ɣ☺u want us
to align with.Yorubas will desert Ɣ☺u when Ɣ☺u need them most.I pity
Rotimi Amechi.Soon they will give him the Abiola treatment.

Ojukwu started a war, isn't that enough courage?
Ojukwu was up against a combination of United
States,Britain and Russia.Were it a straight fight
between Biafra and Nigeria, the latter would have
been conquered in a matter of minutes. With the
likes of Ogundipe,Diya,Olanrewaju,Adisa and co in
the Nigerian army, what do Ɣ☺u expect?
Even with the addition of these super power countries
backing Nigeria,it took them yet another 30 months
to defeat the Biafrans.
After Ɣ☺u have conquered Biafra, how well have Ɣ☺u

Why do people like sticking to lies even after such lies have been busted?

oAccording to Lt Walbe

Lt Walbe:
As far as I am concerned it was a lie(Yoruba publications). We arrested him as we arrested Ironsi. We suspected him of being party to the January coup. You remember the Battle Group Course which was held at Abeokuta . . . Fajuyi was Commander of the Battle Group course. He ran the course. All those who took part in the January coup were those who had taken part in that course. It gave us the impression that the Battle Course was arranged for the January Coup, so he had to suffer it too. I am sorry about that but that is the nature of the life of the military man
