If u are intelligent enough u wil notice dat this figure placed osun above ogun, it placed ogun state as the poorest state in the southern part of nigeria, I attended secondary school in ogun state, this is nt possible. Osun state can never be as industralised as ogun state. There are organisations responsible 4 the experimental and statistical compilation of these figures, u cnt jst venture into it and analyze nonsense.

I don't know why you people never get tired of opening up threads that add nothing to either our unity as a people or our knowledge. GDP is just an aspect and not a conclusion on level of development. Enugu has good housing and infrastructure but Enugu is not a rich State and Oyo has bigger economy. Rivers is a rich State. Lagos is a rich State.

Yes all of you hit more than a raw nerve. I doubt if you went to a good high school not to talk of tertiary education. You are so lost in noticing the imperfection of your perceived "rival ethnic group" and in that process lost touch with reality. Oyo State capital Ibadan is ancient and I've never condemned it and never will and so is Kano. A lot needs to be done to make them liveable and compliant with modernity. This is applicable to everywhere in Nigeria apart from some parts of Abuja and Lagos.

You could at least noticed that there enough tertiary institutions to produce and train manpower resources required to run these businesses

It's simple economics that has nothing to do with some long list of non viable or money generating undustries.

Osun is the second largest producer of Cocoa

Cocoa is Nigeria's second largest export after oil

Nigeria made $1 billion from cocoa last year

Now, tell us how much Nigeria made from anything in Enugu or even worth exporting.

Your operating budget is always a refelction of your economic capabilities, it shows hpw much you can spend and borrow, it refelcts on what you can spend on in terms of infrastructures and the people's basic social needs.

The fact that ENUGU can not budget or perform over N83 billion/Year which is what Lagos state pays it's workers in one year means ENUGU can not excecute any meaning ful project, it meas Enugu is stagnating, it means Enugui is not functioning economically.

This is the reason why there are no state sponsored infrastructueres started or completed in Enugu, the money and capacity is just not there. N83 billion is is a very sorry amount for any state, it's basically 100% recuring budget.

On the other hand, Osun state's budget is N234, that's almost 3 times over Enugu's pathetic N83 billion.

It means Osun state has enough capacity to spend and borrow on projects as we see them do everyday.

It means Osun state can award and spend money on projects and keep expanding it's tax and economic base.

All your emosional geography lesson means nothing really....

geeez: The GDP of Oyo for 2012 is higher than that of any state in the SE. The GDP of Osun is the same with Imo and Anambra which are the highest in the SE (see below). These are the latest figures from a credible agency and not that 2010 GDP post that has been recycled over and over.

From the report I have for Q1 2013, Ogun State has a higher GDP than the highest in the SE which means the three SW states of Lagos, Oyo and Ogun have higher GDPs than that of any state in the SE and if Osun State were in the SE, its GDP for Q1 2013 will be the second highest

Amazing

The day Yemi Kale of NBS leaves, that is only then we'll have the true statistics of what each region brings in. CBN stated that two out of 5 states are where 90% of cash transactions occur. Also, PAP discredited Yemi Kale's findings on the lowest unemployment rate, after all said and done, Anambra finally emerged as the state with the lowest unemployment rate. On the issue of Yemi, when he pulled out data stating that was it Sokoto as the poorest, and when challenged by the Attorney General of the state, he retracted his comments and also issued an apology.

Instead he stated the timeline of the report was the issue, can Yemi Kale of NBS be trusted with analyzing Nigerian data? Can Yemi be trusted with numbers? Yemi lacks integrity, a key component in statistical analysis. As much as I dislike Mallam SLS, I trust SLS with numbers than I do to Yemi. Left up to Yemi, the SE is a poor state, now coming back to the OP, the first page states "the 10 LARGEST NIGERIAN ECONOMIES", so with all the GDP, why did Ogun and the rest make the list? Yet, two out of five states (Anambra and Imo) made the list? Isn't that contradictory on it's face?

If you know a little bit of economics it wouldn't take you much to realise that having a lot of cash transactions is as a result of a high purchasing power parity, for cities like Aba and Onitsha it simply means there is more disposable income in those cities chasing lots of goods and services leading to high private consumption which will lead more production of those goods and services which is a good measure of GDP. But a town with very low spending power will result in lower private consumption like Oyo is experiencing this leads to a discouraging local production and if at all there is production the produce would be for export to lagos

This is stupidity at its peak

The cash transactions simply as a result of market location. people bring money from everywhere to trade in a market

For people that know Lagos well. Alaba, Katagowa due to the location of markets probably handle more cash transactions per day than Ikeja or VI

Does that mean the economy of Ojo Local Govt is better than that of Ikeja Local Govt or Eti Osa?
