Anambra state governor, Mr. Peter Obi has released N3 billion to select mission and government-owned health institutions in the state.

This is barely after a week when he presented cheques totalling N3.5 billion to public and mission primary schools, also in the state.

The governor explained that the funds are meant for facility upgrade to enable the hospitals secure accreditation as well as render more efficient and effective services to the people.

The ceremony tagged; “Accelerating the Achievement of Health- Related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Anambra State” was held at the Women Development Centre, Awka.

Governor Obi on the disbursement of the money donated, said Our Lady of Lourde’s Hospital, Ihiala will get N200 million; Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi will get N200 million; Holy Rosary Hospital, Onitsha, will get N150 million and St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu, will get N200 million.

Others are Amichi Anglican Diocesan Hospital, N100 million even as renovation of 11 selected General Hospitals at about N400 million are on-going; building of 11 Rural Maternity/ Child Health Centres, N330 million; among others, that had already submitted plans of action on how the money would be spent.

Governor Obi said the state government was encouraged by how these institutions utilised the money they were given in the past, hence the reason why they are getting more.
