I am sure Osun has more industries than your state

I don't think some understand that leadership, aside catering for today, entails planning innovatively for the future and for where society needs to go in terms of progress and development.

That is why Yorubas have to grateful and thank Jonathan for all good he has done for them. For the first time Yorubas can afford to built international Airport.
During the Abacha regime Yorubas were hunted down, Abacha made sure many Yoruba eat Sand Sand as food, Yorubas became poor and many sold their Houses, but today because of Jonathan and the love he had on Yorubas, Yorubas are now prospering, people that eat Sand are now building Airport, Kudos to President Jonathan.

You are one laughable individual. grin grin

You think Yorubas are like some foolish people who will mortgage the future of their children by going to war with 200 cutlasses because a bald headed eediot said Shineke told him so?

We are developing our region through innovative resource generation methods while your leaders keep taking their begging bowls to Abuja.

Let us for a second buy into your retarded statements, how come he has deserted the fools that voted for him and spending all his time trying to appease Yorubas who collectively voted against him? That means no one takes you people seriously, you are fair game in the Nigerian Nation

You are morbidly retarded, you need help, you better go and beg the old women in your village to free you.

At least we can use the airport to export commodities other countries want and get monetary benefits from the exchange.

We won't be like your gburugburu heroes who use International airports to export drugs and in the process get their pen*s caught off by Indonesian prison wardens all because of $500 profit- Una no get shame for body.

olaife80: Osun again, where wil southwest states be in the next few years. Ogun state is also proposing cargo port with world class infrastructures like light rail. Tnk u God u dont give us gov that wil be using our money to by Gulfstream. We wil get there, congrt osun.. Bad belle wil surely die of BP.
We wil surely get there..[color=#006600]

Things are surely looking up after the "Locust years" of the PDP. If talent, in administration, continues to replace talent then the rapid development of the SW is a foregone conclusion. SW Governors are all working hard and healthy competition is now spurring the sort of development and infrastructural delivery that past PDP leaders categorically stated was impossible to contemplate let alone achieve in the SW.

Below, as an example, is the planned Abeokuta City Centre representing the sort of development that will see Ogun join Lagos, Accra et al as an African City State. Exciting times.

Nigerian state plans Africa’s tallest building

Published on August 16, 2013 by · 18 Comments

The Ogun State Government, western Nigeria, on Friday demolished its old Secretariat at Oke-Ilewo in Abeokuta, the capital.
Mr Mohammed Affez, Lead Urban Designer and Project Director of Abeokuta City Centre told newsmen in Abeokuta that it was demolished to give way for new Abeokuta City Centre project.

Affez said the master plan of the project was being finalised and would include 60-storey skyscraper hoped to be the tallest in Africa.
He said the project would be handled and financed by Urbanisima Ltd., a Malaysian company.
“There would be adjoining structures which would redefine the landscape of the capital city.
“Others are shopping mall, recreation centre, signature tower, office complex, hotels and world class convention centre.”
The demolition is being carried out by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCEC).

Recently, members of the state’s Technical Committee on the project visited Malaysia for a week-long training on the design of its master plan.

These airport projects are a waste of time and don't offer value for money. Weighing all the possible things money could be spent on:hospitals, schools, roads, e.t.c, airport projects constitute a monumental waste of money. Only Lagos and Abuja airports, PH to a lesser extent, are worth the money being plonked on them.

I saw some FAAN stats recently showing that airports in the same region, Akure and Ibadan combined, generate less than 15% of the air traffic volume that Enugu airport generates. If both airports are struggling, what does Osun offer that that Oyo and Ondo don't? In a country where 825,000 children died prematurely in a year due to poor health, the elite are rejoicing over airports that most Nigerians won't be able to afford.

The clown should have channeled the funds to cocoa planting and almajiri school for the large army of yeroba muslims..

Oshun is a damn poor state with very poor people residing in it, most of whom cannot even afford a bus fare to lagos or onitsha talk more of air ticket..

Let me know if your state generates up to N1.6bn monthly in IGR

I also want to know if the GDP of your state was as high as Osun's in 2012

I'm waiting because Osun state's GDP for 2012 was higher than that of any state in the SE and no state in the SE generates half of N1.6bn in IGR

Copy that

A welcome development. We need to open up all parts of the federation.

I believe there should be an airport in all 36 states but maybe one international airport per zone.

It is true dat the level of poverty in the state of Osun is very high and d middle-class is almost non-existent when compared to places like Lagos, Abuja, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, it wud therefore amount 2a waste of public funds 4d Ogbeni to embark on dis type of project dat is a white-elephant.

This is the problem with the of lack of critical analysis fundamentally missing in the Nigerian educational system- the system continually breeds half baked graduates that can not reason deeply but just gladly spew their ignorance at every opportunity- no offense intended but it is becoming a crisis situation

How is the poverty level and the so called non existent middle class in Osun state different from the Nigerian state as a whole?

OK:

1. Osun state is opening up its market for international and national investors who will find it more conducive to travel by air to the state rather than by road- so it benefits them and the state by the resultant investments. While Governor Obi is making daily visits to Abuja, Ogbeni Aregbe is making a convincing business case for inward FDI in Osun State. Why wont foreign investors prefer a 30 minute flight from Lagos rather than a 3 hour journey by road?

2. Osun state attracts more international tourism than the whole SE combined, for example the number of international visitors that attended the Osun Osogbo festival in 2013 is more than those that have stepped foot in the whole SE in the last 10 years. An airport will make their journey less onerous and benefit the economy of Osun state. The economic effect of that alone will triple the GDP of a lot of SE states in the long run- Fact!

3. As a result of the aforementioned, it will gradually reduce the poverty level and increase the disposable income of the Osun state people which will eventually widen the middle class population.
