Though the front building of the embassy seems to be a bit attractive, wait until you get into the compound before you understand what deceiving is about.

In the compound is what the embassy calls "white house". A building set aside to attend to thousands of Nigerians. It is like a kiosk where Mallams sell petty things in Lagos.

Inside the white house is just one room, with some chairs, less than 20 arranged and a big table for the officers to sit and attend to various problems. Though it is a white house, the population inhale carbon dioxide instead of oxygen from themselves since there is no room for ventilation and the air condition is unable to take care of the population.

White house is situated outside the fence to deprive Nigerians from coming into the main compound. Though it is a Nigerian house, it is more or less mainly for the diplomat who only allows Nigerians to come into the compound for passport snapping and other petty things.

When I complained about the State of the toilet at the Nigerian embassy in Ghana under Obanikoro, some sycophantic Nairaland fan of the then ambassador was busy attacking me and lying to the forum to detract attention from a serious issue. This is one of the biggest problem of Nigeria today. I.e the bastardization of our values to the extent many now believe it is "me,myself and I". For many, there is no interest or pride at all in serving others under a banner of national pride or belief in the efficacy of individual contribution to the rise of the great nation we all hollowly claim we desire.

Many ambassadorial positions under the PDP since 1999 , bar the most important and demanding foreign Nations, have been nothing but patronage 'outreach programs' used to pacify and compensate AGIPs (any government in power) and minions of government who are felt to have 'paid their dues' for Party courses in one way or the other and thus needed to be rewarded. The result is what we have today where Ambassadors are glorified businessmen/women and 'money changers' with no natural interest in their office let alone the immediate domain they supervise.

Such individuals can never look after the interest of Nigerians or, minimally, the physical cleanliness of their own official environment. Tragic. The truth no sensible person will deny is that an Ambassador who is driven and the meritorious best to occupy his/her position will have every inch of his domain covered with adequate or exemplary supervision. Charity begins at home and there is no fit boss/leader that does not appreciate this.

It's just unfortunate that governance in Nigeria is already in the hands of mediocres. And it is more worrisome to know that the society has accepted mediocre performance the benchmark.
Nigeria's consular staff in almost every country you find them behave like demi-gods and always act as though they're doing you a favor when you request for services for which they are employed. Very unprofessional set of i-diots.

The fact remains Nothing works for the Federal government hence the reason why i am not surprised. In the last 7 years i have been to the UK Nigerian embassy twice and those two times have been horrific. The only compensation for myself is that i only ever have to visit the Nigerian UK embassy Once in five years to renew my passport.

Well, such things goes a long way to show the level of decay and poor managarial attitudes we have in Nigeria. I recall 2 years ago when I travelled to Delhi from Abuja Airport, Right from the glass door entrance of the airport building, rusted ricketty trolleys, I felt a huge sense of disorderliness in the conduct of the airport staff and personnel, very rude and ill mannered barking like rabies infested dogs, when I was checking in my luggage, I discovered the luggage carousel was even making skweaking noise due to poor maintenance. Finally, I checked into departure lounge upstairs, only for power supply to be interrupted, omo see sweating na, I felt pressed and needed to use the toilet to ease myself, I opened the toilet lo and behold I had to ford theough water spilled on the floor, on the walls different senseless drawings and writings some very gross were inscripted in pen of all colours, looked up at the ceiling, saw cubwebs, hung on the wall and ceiling, the toilet, I nearly puked, I had to hold my breath before I could urinate. I came out nearly suffocating. The Public Address System Speakers (PASS) was sounding as if the cones in the speakers had bursted or even gotten weak due to age and stress. The whole airport was nothing more than a sham. I looked around saw foreigners and some Nigerian "Big men" with flowing Agbada and Fila plus expensive shoes and phones laughing and interracting freely (in such a shameful place called Nnamdi Azikiwe Int'l Airport, Abuja) at different areas I couldn't help but feel so ashamed and angry for the country's state of decay. The lady selling provision at the duty free shop in the airport departure lounge was another character self. Everything was very gloomy and saddening about the level of infrastructural decay in Nigeria. I boarded the plane and as it was taxing down the runway, I saw overgrown grass within the premises, at one side, I saw piles of grounded rottening plan carcasses (what a shame). Well, last two months I used the airport, I saw some improvement sha but to me, it stil isn't any where near Addis Ababa International Airport when it comes to class and orderliness, beauty and facility management. My issue is, if this could happen to the gateway to Nigeria what else is left out? Embassies, High commissions, counsulates and other key government buildings are left to rot. Nigeria's House New Delhi AKA (Nigeria High Commission Building have a mixed potpouri, the community where it is sited is a beggers' village/colony, dirt littered in front of the building gate, children, men and women in rags playing close to such a building, on the other side of the fence roundabout, the villagers from time to time throw in some garbage into the enclosure, go behind the. High Commission's staffs house which is situated behind the High commissioner's house and see pile of broken down vehicles kept as relics. The sports facilities are in mess there.

Is dirt and disorganisation something the nigerian government takes everywhere it goes? Well, at least nigerian embassies are living up to what an embassy suppose to be, which is, a representation of the country it represents. When you visit this embassy to get visa, you get a taste of what nigeria is.
