Are Nigerians Getting Used To Killings? by igbeke: 11:31am On Sep 30, 2013
Sorry that I have to ask this.
Over fifty Nigerian Students were killed overnight on Satuday/Sunday.
A Boat was said to have capsided in River Niger and a lot of lives were wasted.
All these, coupled with the incessant killings by the Fulanis.
To me, Yesterday (Sunday) and today are supposed to be declared "black days" Nigeria. (my opinion)
I was suprised the President could still make it to the TV sreen yesterday, while all government parameters were uninterupted.
What is going wrong with us as a people, or am I being over-emotional?
Your take pls.

Nigerians have undergone the law of diminishing 'religious, ethnic killings and emotional returns' if there's anything like that. Death tolls are merely the play of numbers nowadays. There's not a lot of sentiments attached unless you've been affected directly by any of the attacks Nigerians have witnessed. So Yes, Nigerians are not getting used to killings. Unfortunately,we have already.

Your right, its true, the tragedies are coming so often and so quickly,we are getting used to it,less than a 100 people died in the kenya siege but they've pronounced 3-day mourning, over 200 high-profile deaths 'ave occurred during the same period in nigeria.....we are insensitive,as long as our families are ohk then И̣̣̣̥o problem May God forgive us

Nigerian don't value life right from day one, the time of our forefathers, killing of innocent souls in the name of sacrifice etc, and also the leaders of nowadays are in into bloody politics, in the name of protection and fame ...so we have used to the barbaric ways of life in Nigeria.

In this great "country", Hopes are easily dashed, dreams are shattered in a wink, efforts are greeted with futility just when you think you are almost there.
In my hometown, customs and traditions made us to belive that at death, loved one are mourned for atleast seven (7) days, as a sign of respect. Little did we know that we live in a world where importance is attached to a dead cow than a human.
it is so so pathetic.

as long as it's not a family or close associate ..yes yes yes!!

I wonder if anyone is taking count....the numbers could dwarf some countries experiencing full blow war

or perharps 160m is just too much

This is very true. We've gotten used to seeing corpses on tv screens and newspapers. This is very sad. And the our clueless president was smiling on the TV yesterday when asked about these killings.

Who is talking about forefathers and sacrifice? The number of people sacrificed for a whole generation during the period of our forefathers can be killed in just one day today. Just 8 years ago it wasnt as bad as this. 50 students dead just withing hours on Saturday in Yobe while our leaders are discussion 2015.
