contrary to gov amaechis claim that the FG has abandoned the airport project because of his tiff with jonathan, the pictures proves otherwise the project is still in full force and 90% complete. let nairalanders take a look and decide whom to believe.
Am beginning to think that Amaechi is a knuckle head.

Errr...are we to expect more pictures or are we to judge from these three pictures of the same spot you posted? Is that all the work that has been done at the PH airport?

And there i was thinking you had 'proper' official pics of on-going works in the interior of the terminal building (checking-in hall, toilets, shops, lifts, escalators, baggage handling facilities, etc-etc-etc).

You should have opened the thread when you had more pics other than the front view of the building that everyone sees everyday!

Propaganda and lies, the job is not upto 50% or it should be thereabout. Travelling through that airport for the past year till this moment is hell. Op I wonder whom you are trying to deceive or rather impress. The job is more than slow. Sure to travel through the airport in a short while and I would definitely take pictures to counter these lies.

FG Warns Contractor Over Port Harcourt Airport

The federal government has given the contractor handling the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Inter-Bau, up to April this year to deliver the project or face its wrath.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku gave the directive on Sunday when he led members of the national good governance tour (NGGT) team to inspect progress of work at the airport.

Maku said it was regrettable that the contractor failed to deliver the project by December 2012 as it promised, warning that the government would not be happy if the firm fails to deliver by April.

He said, “The Port Harcourt Airport was supposed to be delivered by last December, the same period Lagos local airport was completed. We are worried over the slow pace of work in the airport.

“We are tired of excuses. The masses who use this airport are suffering. You must deliver this project by April because we don’t want any further extension. We need to see more activity in this place.”

The minister stated that a total of 11 airports were being reconstructed in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “Before now, some of our airports looked like secondary schools. President Goodluck Jonathan believed that our people deserve the best. Time has come for us to look at life differently.

“The Nigerian economy is growing and Nigerians must understand that. Let’s leave politics out of it. Because of the growth in the economy, we believe that we should give our airports a face-lift.

“We now have 100 per cent coverage of the Nigerian airspace. With that, we can control emergencies. We have a lot of changes that have taken place. There is a wholesale transformation in the aviation industry.”

Maku disclosed that some of the airports that have already been delivered include Lagos, Owerri, Kaduna, Benin and Enugu while Calabar and Port Harcourt are ongoing.

He also said that the federal government had introduced a total of 12 cargo airports in order to make export easy for Nigerians, adding that work would soon commence at the airports.

I don't know if the FG stopped working or not because of the tiff between Amachi and Jonathan, but the truth of the matter is that the airport has been like this since last year and it is very appalling.
An airport that operates international flights which upgrade started about three years ago is still at that level.
Honestly, I don't see it as an airport anymore, it is more of an airstrip to me than an airport and I consider it a mere transit stop. It was because of the sorry state of that airport that I chose to travel through Lagos to France rather than punish myself. Traveling though PHC international is hellish and arriving to there is even worse!

As a Port Harcourt Boy - this is just another lie. Look at the sign of the Port Harcourt International Airport - its supposed to be in the middle but as you can see its at the edge. Look carefully its on the roof area, the work is at best 40% done and by that we are being very generous. The camera man was being mischievious and failed to take the part were people are suffering.

@Op,
The way you posted the latest picture first and the older january pictures with Labaran Maku good governance team later, makes it confusing to see there had been massive progress. Has to look carefully to see the control tower was outside and exposed in the older pictures, but has become part of the mega structure in the earlier newer pics.

Frankly, I wouldn't call this structure an Airport, most of such structures in Nigeria are actually Aerodromes or simply landing strips.

Can you please show us pictures of Aerodromes in Nigeria that look like the terminal building in question?

Besides the FG currently got loans from china to build four brand new terminals in the country of which portharcourt airport is a beneficiary so please hold your breath more is happening currently in this airport interms of upgrades and renovation than at anytime since its inception.
