Ngwakwe: What has APC got to do with my opinions in this thread.

Remove GEJ from presidency and there will be peace and Boko Haram will stop bombing - Most Northern Elites/Politicians (from every political divide including PDP)

This is utter rubbish. The military and police fought a major battle with Boko Haram for 3 days before the capture of their leader under late Yar'adua. People like you are too blinded by tribalism to see facts for what they are.

Boko Haram became a major menace under Umaru Yar'adua. Jonathan's inept handling of the matter has made it worse.

The president also got it wrong...Syria's war is nt by extremist as claimed by our president. They are figthing a civil war there, calling the opposition extremists means Nigeria supports Al Asad. So is d US givin support to 'extremists' since they are giving weapons to d oppostion. Mr president shd be careful wit his speech or he shd just fire his aides. CALLING SYRIA's OPPOSITION EXTREMIST IS JUST WRONG.

maclatunji: Is it right for a country's leader to compare his country to another during his speech on its independence/national day?

This is what President Goodluck Jonathan did when he asked Nigerians to be thankful that Nigeria is not like Syria which has become a "theatre of human tragedy".

I feel an independence day speech by a Head of State should be about your country, its opportunities, challenges and plans for progress not to start comparing your country to others for good or bad. Comparisons should be left to other citizens

What do you think?
Comparisons should be left to other citizens?
Is our president no longer a Nigerian?

Opps! Sorry, I kinda missed the part where you wrote "I feel..."

I love how you people always forget that PDP has far more Northerners in it than APC.

Bruv, it is the 'JJC' fans of GEJ who make themselves blind to that fact. Everyone else know that, beyond the "national spread" rhetoric, the PDP is a Northern Party. It is the fans of GEJ who want to reshape the Party with fraud and usurpation which cannot stand the test of number. This is what is causing all the problems for the PDP currently. I.e the fact GEJ will lose to the Northerner if they let Party Primaries, like democracy, to be purely a game of numbers.

berem: It is just like Ghana President making an independence speech and thanking God that his country is not as corrupt as Nigeria .I bet you that the Nigerian government will react to such statement. Whoever wrote that speech for Jonathan must be crazy!!

Great contextual example Berem. Imagine the outcry if that actually transpired. We all know Nigerians, from the leaders to those who are led, will be queueing to tear Ghana apart for the "insult" and "lack of respect"!!!

The problem for Nigeria is that this will not stop because petty and diversionary antics is all we will get from those who are not good at providing solutions yet have been put in the position of doing that. For me, the effective administration of Nigeria is far,far beyond the ability of GEJ.

Boko Haram Intensified their effort immediately GEJ became President, Why didn't they bomb and kill when yar adua was in power. Severally Boko haram has made it clear that they want GEJ to resign and turn to islam and here you are saying nonsense. Your Muslims brothers also sworn to make Governance unbearable for any southerner that wins the election and yet you are blaming GEJ..... the president is very right in comparing the situation in Nigeria to Syria.the same people are the same trouble makers in both countries.the only difference is that in Syria, the western powers are backing alqaeda affiliated terrorist groups to overthrow assad.in Nigeria, the west doesnt support boko haram,an alqaeda affiliated wahhabi/salafist terror group.the western powers make their decision on their interests.in syria, they think its better to support terror groups against assad who is an ally of iran and hezbollah-two staunch and powerful enemies of israel.now that the new iranian president is a moderate who is pulling closer to the US is seeking dialogue, the west can still change its position on assad.

The point is those in syria and those in nigeria perpetuating terror and evil are the followers of the same evil ideology that is destroying both muslims and non-muslims alike.the wahhabi/salafist ideology is evil.every so called "muslim terrorist" is a wahhabi/salafist.they are evil and giving muslims a bad image.they are not islamists at all, they are terrorists.Maclatunji, who started this thread, sympathizes with that evil ideology.

@maclatunji this is what happens when you create a credibility problem for yourself. You have raised a point which ordinarily would be valid - a statesman does not make such utterances.
The problem here is YOU. Everyone here knows that you are a mealy mouthed defender of the indefensible who hides posts and gives out frivolous bans because they disagree with your darling islam.

Recently you hid my post on a thread where the OP referred to traditional religions as "evil" whilst eulogising islam. My post was not abusive or off topic but you hid it because I exposed the hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance of the OP.
You think people don't see these things? You can't talk from two sides of your mouth at once.

You'll probably hide this post as well.
Sad fellow.

maclatunji:

Just because a man from the Southsouth is president, the ruling party has become "their" party.

Comical irony lost on those who do not have the character to see how myopic, divisive and treacherous conducts always comes back to haunt those guilty of such. Clannish supporters of GEJ now vacillate between playing victim (they hate "minority" GEJ) to threatening Nigerian ("oil will stop flowing if GEJ does not return) because the reality, i.e the fact that the PDP is numerically a Northern Party, has now dawned on unrefined folks who never appreciated the need to carry every stakeholder along and respect others always.

Northerners can make a legitimate claim to being a pivotally prominent component of the PDP from its beginning till now. Sensibly ambitious folks will try to respect and work with that reality instead of delude themselves they now "own" what others built and will not give up without a fight.

Am surprised at how most of u reason. All u do is create a negative thread about Jonathan knowing that it will make front page cos nairaland is anti Jonathan too. He said it in good faith ....that he never wishes our condition deteriorate to the extent in Syria who also were once a peaceful nation like Nigeria. Well u got what u wanted...lots of comment and front page. Pls go back to ur boring life of watching the bad things Jonathan does. Shithole!!

i_laugh: WHATEVER THIS MAN SAYS, YOU WILL FIND A REASON SOMEWHERE IN YOUR BIASED MIND TO QUESTION IT. FC.UK. GIVE IT UP. WHY HASNT ANYONE HID THIS THREAD JUST AS THE OP IS KNOWN TO DO?

I am sure he raised this point because the President is speaking against the OPs evil Islam.

Why are some of you focused on the OP? Why not let us inspect the message of the thread? As Berem succinctly illustrated, what would be even your own personal reaction if Ghana's President used Nigeria as an example of what Ghanaians should be "thankful" their country is not? Would you take such an utterance gracefully and even pat Dramani Mahama on the back or would you be spitting fire at the "disrespect" and the need for Mahama to focus on the problem of his own Nation and the job he is paid to do?

Besides, is it not obvious it is wrong for this President who has supervised a serious downward slide in our status as a "terrorized nation" to now ask us to be thankful we are, in his opinion, better than Syria? It shows GEJ is a leader who does not confront his own limitations, inadequacies and failure. The defeatist words of GEJ, if we are to shun sentiments and bias, only typifies the celebration of failure and ease with our worsening situation.
