Trey knowles: And how many years before one can be a doctor cause i read a blog dat it takes close to twelve years That's very true, especially if you are lucky, intelligent and smart, it may be more than 12years or less, cos you'll write various exams, various stages/levels/phases you'll have to pass thru, especially for an outsider, its more difficult, but you can do it, its a matter of determination. There is one examination you'll write in Africa too, so its a long process, but in the end, its worth it! Cos of the pay, but i don't think i can dabble into that, i'll advise have your MBBS degree first in Nigeria or somewhere else, then you can start applying for international professional exams in whichever area you wanna specialise in. With a first degree in MBBS or any related fields you won't spend up to 12 years |

ozo_emeka: Is it falsehood? Those things you posted are real like most Projects are really scary in America cus I almost got shot by a hungry Nigger when I went to see my girl who gave me an address and I found out it was a project.Very bad neighborhood. One can still make it through the means stated by babyosisi but it all boils down to ones attitude and zeal to succeed in life in America or any other part of the world. All is about sacrifice and nothing comes easy. |

Gayigaskia: I live in America for the past 15 years, i make good salary my wife is a RN we have 3 kids, and sometimes we struggle for cash. That situation scares me a lot because our kids are young and really i don't want to live like this having high blood pressure wahala all the time. The problem with America is you don't really own anything, everything is bills on top of that there always things that eat up your savings. ie: charges from late fees, speeding tickets, insurance copays and so on. When you compare to your friends in Africa, they have not many worries as far as kids are concern since you don't have to for baby sitting ; you will have a aunt, cousin, niece to do the home works for you, everything you own is owned straight up , there is no monthly payments wahala. If you are able to open your own business or secure a decent job in Nigeria, it would be way better than living in America. I hate when people say this. Live within ur means. Don't buy a 2014 BMW X6 because your neighbor has it. Buy a used 2006 car and pay it in full. Don't live in a $500k home, go for $150k and pay 20-30% down. Don't finance ur lifestyle because your friends and co-workers are doing it and it shall be well with u. |

Ajibel: @babyosisi,,, I have a bff who wants to study medicine (paediatrics) in the states... Can you (or anyone) suggest some schools she can attempt please. Thanks in anticipation. I'm making my findings too, buh it maybe easier to hear from you (or others) Compared to any part of the world, America has one of the best medical colleges, the least medical college in America is better than any in Nigeria. There are several and many medical colleges from John Hopkins, to harvard, newyork university, university of chicago, university of pittsburg, just do your research well, the only problem is the cost, tuition is as much as 50grand in some places, the least should be around 20,000dolls, but he or she can get schorlarship through SAT's and some other means. The tuition fee is fucking expensive. Considered studying medicine in the states too, before i opted out, i am a medical student in Nigeria, but sometimes when i am dreaming i do see myself bagging a john hopkins university MBBS degree. And another thing, the best brains get admitted into these universities, also they admit a few and nothing short of the best |

You don't sound like somebody who will survive a day in Africa, go and live in Africa and see how the system works then you will appreciate America more. Its speeding ticket in America and in Nigeria its police extortion whether you break the traffic law or not. Don't even conclude until you move to Africa. |

Its very much easier for a highschool graduate in the state to admitted into college than for you without a first degree maybe with just your o'levels, hope you gat ma point? |

ozo_emeka: Listen to the trash you are offering. He should marry someone for a green card? This guy men STEM only give u work permit after u got a degree what off if u fund urself after a year and u cant afford for the remaining years. Also Nasa receive applications from everywhere in the world it will be hard to get ajob. Other organizations that give scholarship some a re partial and is also hard to get too. Marriage is like the only option but as she said look for someone u love not just for Green card. |

adconline:I think you misread me, i am not any of those guys you were talking about. I drive a Pilot old one 03 to be exact bought cash. Now we can argue about this all day; in America you make money and they will take it right back no matter how you do. Now there are ways to save, but i'm not for the sake of it put my kids in bad neighborhoods where they will go to bad schools just to end up smoking weed at early ages. |

Re: Ask Me Any Questions About America, straight Talk from a Nigerian in America by Stegomiah: 6:15pm On Oct 17, 2013 |
adconline: Don't think you live in America or you know about America judging from your post. Except you want to be debt ridden then you can go for every fancy, latest and extravagant things you like or come across. Even the indigenes i mean the full blooded americans that by default have better opportunities and advantages than you have are frugal and disciplined for them to succeed, excluding those born with silver spoons, ask bill gates, mark zuckerburg, warren buffet their success stories and many more. For an average Man to make it in life you must be purposeful and have a savings, also discipline and denial matters. You don't just buy or eat all goodies your eyes deem fit if you are not very wealthy. Not even in america where you'll find attractive thingsI think the rich are more disciplined than the poor cos they spend mostly on what will make them richer. So bro, frugality is the key to success, save and save for the raining days, by doing so you helping yourself, you'll be the one to reap the benefits, your children will benefit from it. A word is enough for the wise. Moreover, if you like go for 2014 range rover, luxury home and other exotic and luxury things, except if you are from a wealthy home or very weathy on your own, i mean annual salary above 350grand, then you'll live to tell the story, i know of a family here in Naija, the man earns over 200k monthlY, the wife not working, he has children many(over 5 in number) but he spends lavishly, clubs, cars, women, alcohol... Suddenly he got sick and died, he has nothing to show for except the house he was building for over 6years and not yet completed, i just pity the poor young children, what will they say about their father, Irresponsible is the word. He bought a car of about 8million, that can buy 3 good cars in naija, i ask my self whatl for? They have sold the car now, for the family upkeep. Life is all about choices, so its ya'choice to live whichever way you like, you'll live to tell the story, or someone will tell your story when you're gone, only which story will they talk about? 1 Like |

clefstone: pls OP, i hv a kid broda tht studied dentistry in 9ja nd is hoping to travel to yankee this year. Wht r his chances ova thr. I need ur response ASAP. Thanx There are only few states that allow foreign trained dentists to take their licensure exams and one of those states is California It is a series of exams that could take over 2 years to complete and at the end of it,you can only practice in California His best bet will be to seek admission for what they call advance standing It is a program run by some dental schools where foreign dentists can go in and do an accelerated program for an American dental degree for 2 or 3 years depending on the school. It is very competitive to get in He needs a high score in part one and two national dental board examinations A good TOEFL with TWE score His transcript evaluated Before he can even apply to a school One of such schools is NYU dental school Another is Loma Linda in California There are others Let him go to their websites and check on the admission requirements for foreign trained dentists |
