Why is Ballack resorting to mafioso tactics? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8822906.stm Ballack warns Lahm over Germany captaincy Injured Germany captain Michael Ballack has warned World Cup skipper Philipp Lahm he expects to take back the armband on his return to fitness. Lahm, 26, led Germany to third place in South Africa in the absence of Ballack and wants to keep the role. But Ballack, 33, said: "This is no issue for me. I am the captain. "A player cannot request in what position he wants to play and it is the same with the captaincy. One should respect this. There are hierarchies." Ballack was ruled out of the tournament because of an ankle injury suffered playing for Chelsea against Portsmouth in last season's FA Cup final. The midfielder, who signed a two-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen in June, saw his country play impressively in South Africa before they lost to eventual winners Spain in the semi-finals. Ballack, capped 98 times by Germany, added: "Philipp has made his claim at a moment that I feel is inopportune. I was injured and could not defend myself. "I am going to talk to Philipp about this business." Lahm last week told the Bild newspaper: "It is clear I would like to retain the captaincy. The job is a lot of fun for me. Why should I then voluntarily give up the role?" The issue is dividing opinion in Germany with midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and ex-skipper Lothar Matthaus taking different sides. Despite being Lahm's club-mate at Bayern Munich, Schweinsteiger, told newspaper Die Welt: "For me, it is Ballack who is the captain. "Philipp took on the role solely because Michael was injured." But Matthaus has said: "I don't mean that in a spiteful way but Ballack was arguably holding up a number of players who've now blossomed." Coach Joachim Loew, who has yet to sign a new contract with the German football federation, has not commented on the situation. |

@ DK, abeg explain me how Hamburg were able to cop Westermann for just £6.5m. . . With the prices EPL clubs dey pay these days, Westermann should be no less than £12m. Apparently, he wanted to play centre-back and Schalke couldnt promise him centre-back shirt. . . Considering the success of Arne Freidrich in converting from right-back to centre-back, I thinks Westermann would make a brilliant centre-back if given the opportunity. Besides, £6.5m is chicken change for a player who is already a very good Left-back and DM. Some EPL managers are sleeping sha. . . . |
Re: Bayern Munich Fans by dayokanu(m): 5:19pm On Jul 20, 2010 |
^^ The EPL managers would rather have Joleaon Lescott for 25m. The problems with Westerman is that Schalke wont play him in Central defence because Marcelo Bordon and a much younger Benedikt Howedes have a lockdown on that position. Heikko Westermann knows he wants to play CB and if he loses to 22yr Howedes in the same club, How can he hope to win the spot back in the NT ?. With Boateng off in Hamburg, He only has Joris Mathijsen and David Rozenhal to battle with. Also Hamburg is also trying to build from the back with has been their achilles heel for a while. They have bought young German talent Diekmaier from Nuremberg Also the talk in Germany is that Boateng, Matt Hummels and Howedes are the Future in the Central Defence. So players like Sedar Tasci, Westermann and Badstuber even Mertersacker have to be on their toes You know EPL managers are not that sensible Arne friedrich also transfered to Wolfsburg for 3m from relegated hertha Berlin. even top goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny went to hamburg to battle Frank Rost but Some clubs would rather spend 18m on a waste player like James Millner |

Heiko Westermann has travelled to Hamburg Westermann, 26, travelled to Hamburg on Monday evening after the clubs agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £6.5 million. "Heiko has quit our training camp as he is on his way to Hamburg," Magath told Deutsche Presseagentur. "The paperwork is still missing the signatures, but I expect this will go through in time. "I was very much unwilling to accept his transfer, looking at things from the viewpoint of a manager. In the end I have agreed to this transfer due to the overall situation of our club. I was unable to guarantee him first-team football as he was wanting to play in the centre of defence, which is his ideal position." http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=809477&sec=transfers&cc=5901 |

A thoroughly unfamiliar Bayern line-up comfortably beat a Trentino regional XI 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in a friendly to round off the German double winners’ summer training camp. A 2,500 crowd, including many holidaymaking FCB fans, gathered at the Stadio Comunale in Arco to watch José Sosa (6, 19) and Ivica Olic (38, 79) each net twice, with Andreas Ottl adding a fifth Bayern goal from the spot four minutes from time. The Italians’ consolation came from Alessandro Poli on the hour. http://www.fcbayern.telekom.de/en/news/matchreport/2010/24226.php?fcb_sid=b3794777565c36422003ee88b143eaca |

Glad to be back First pre-season session for World Cup stars 02.08.2010 Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller and Jörg Butt led the way onto the training ground, followed in close order by Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose and Co. After fully ten weeks away from the Säbener Strasse, the final batch of Bayern’s World Cup participants began preparing for the new season at club level on Monday. “They’ve all made a really good impression, and if we make good use of the time available, I believe we’ll be in excellent form for the Bundesliga restart. I also think we’ll start the season well,” enthused director of sport Christian Nerlinger, delighted to welcome the senior squad in its entirety for the first time since the end of last season. Lahm pleased to be back “I’m happy to be here again,” Mark van Bommel commented just a few minutes before taking to the practice ground. Ahead of the session, the club captain and Lahm faced the media for their first news conference of the new campaign. Both players appeared relaxed, happy, and buzzing with anticipation. “It doesn’t often happen that you’re away from the club for ten weeks,” said Van Bommel. “Seeing familiar faces is a good and trusted feeling. It all starts again now,” the Dutch midfielder continued. Lahm was beaming as he addressed reporters. “It’s great to see the lads again,” said the defender, who married his long-term partner just after the World Cup, but admitted he had spent the first two weeks of his three-week summer vacation “doing nothing but sleep and eat.” Fourteen-day pre-season The stars now face an exceptionally demanding challenge. In the space of just two weeks, coach Louis van Gaal must somehow return his first-choice team to a competitive state. Fitness is arguably less of an issue than many fans might think. “You don’t lose so much in just three weeks,” Van Bommel noted. The World Cup participants’ mental strength could be much more of a problem. “It’s hard when you only have two weeks to rebuild what you’ve spent the last three weeks trying to rid yourself of,” Lahm remarked, pointing out that the process of recharging the players’ metaphorical batteries could take a while longer yet. The first competitive fixture of the new season takes place in exactly two weeks, when the nation’s most successful club face Germania Windeck in the DFB Cup first round on 16 August. Four days later, the new Bundesliga season officially opens when Bayern face VfL Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena. However, nothing like a normal re-season programme will be possible before then. “Other teams have maybe two or three World Cup players in their squads, but we have eleven, and that’s a problem,” acknowledged Van Bommel. Müller looking for enjoyment However, the captain and his deputy are confident about the new campaign. “It’s not something we need to over-dramatise,” said Van Bommel. On the plus side, and in complete contrast to last season, the squad is fundamentally unchanged and all the players understand what the coach wants from them. “We’ve already trained together for a year. We have a foundation. The job this season is to develop further,” said Lahm. Müller, the top scorer and Best Young Player at the World Cup, was in characteristically chirpy form as he contemplated the days and weeks to come. “Three weeks is enough holiday for me. I’m fired up for football and hope it’s just as much fun as always, right from the off.” http://www.fcbayern.telekom.de/en/news/news/2010/24471.php?fcb_sid=01d1d9eb3111c1cf1d658fcb321499cd

Muller actually started personal training earlier as he wanted to bulk up. Van Gaal wants to use him as the main striker to accomodate Toni Kroos as attacking midfielder and he needs to be more muscular to handle European Central defender. I personally think Muller would initially struggle as a main striker but over time, He would adjust |
Re: Bayern Munich Fans by Nobody: 1:42pm On Aug 03, 2010 |
^^ If van gaal should use muller as point man, he may have himself to blame afterwards. Ollic is still the best point man around for now. Muller a good supporting. I will say bench van damme bomel and let toni kroos play like ozil did in the WC whilst muller stays behind olic or klose |
