Before you read it should be noted that this writeup does not aim to exault any pope against the other, or condemn any of their styles. It's just an article pointing out significant differences between the two pontiffs.

CRUCIFIX NECK PIECE.
One of the things that set apart the pope from other priest, bishops and cardinals is his golden crucifix neck piece. Every pope had one, and pope benedict's own was specially crafted by an italian blacksmith upon his papal assumption. But pope francis has departed from that tradition and has his neck piece instend, made of iron. Which is the least element of worth after gold, silver, bronze.

THE FISHERMANS RING.
At the hand of every pope is perhaps the most important item of their palpacy, the fishermans ring. It is the symbol of papal authority and seal for the pope's personal documents. Every pope has had their's made out of gold. Signifying the power and wealth of the heavenly father, but pope francis has diverted from the practise and made his fisherman's ring out of silver.

THE RED PAPAL SHOES.
it is the tradition of pope's to wear the red papal shoe. Which is a sign of their power, grandeur and somewhat royalty. During the middle ages, it was vatican protocol for visitors to the pope to kiss his red shoes upon meeting him. Pope benedict had his red shoes made specially by italain coblers, but pope francis has shunned the red papal shoes and rather gone for the normal black shoes everyone wears.

CASSOCK TROUSERS.
During his palpacy, pope benedict like every other pope wore a white cassock, but he also wore a white trouser under the cassock. Signifying the overall pureness of the pope. But pope francis choose to wear a black trouser under his white cassock signifying his belief that no one is fully pure, that everyone has vestages of sin.

DRESSING.
pope benedict during his palpacy fully embraced the splendor of the palpacy. He wore the most elaborate regalia's for his masses and audiences, during his palpacy, the vatican contracted a litiny of tailors to put together the pope's vestages. He was distinct in his dressing wearing every one for an occasion. The normal cassock for overseas trips, the choir dress for audiences, golden robers and cloaks for mass, etc. But pope francis has shunned all that. He wears his white cassocks all the time. And wears subdued robes and cloaks for his mass celebrations.

THRONES.
The papal thrones are famous for it's splendor. Embeded it gold and fine velvet, they are postioned in specific areas of the vatican where papal audience are held. E.g, the sixtine chapel, clementine hall,etc. Pope francis has had all those thrones removed and replaced with simple white cussioned chairs wich will serve as his thrones for his palpacy.

POPEMOBILE
the popemobile is the famous car with which the pope drives around st. Peters square or countries he visit so he can relate better with the crowd, during his palpacy, pope benedict used a mercedes bulletproof popemobile. Embelished his his flags. Durimg his palpacy, pope francis has shunned does popemobiles and opted for a simpler and more open one without vatican or papal flags.

it is a pity francis is dropping so many liturgical vestments.

To ech man his own. Doesn't make Benedict less of a pope than him. I think Francis is doing this to send a message across to his brother bishops and priests all over the world. Humility is a virtue a lot of people lack today.
