CenzoCee: I don't think Schlumberger does training for individuals here in Nigeria. They mostly target companies that have purchased the software (Petrel) from them. Often times, the companies buying the software from them also pay for training of their staff. However, there are lots of people out there, undergraduates, postgraduates, employees and non employees of oil/gas companies who have used petrel over time and can train you. I would suggest you find someone in that category to help you out. It may come at a fee though. |

imag5: I discovered this forum some days ago and I have gone through it starting from page 1 yesterday and I have just finished going through. This forum is very laudable and I believe there is a lot to learn from this forum. I have learnt a lot myself and I can only say thank you. The major problem most Geoscientists face is lack of information and I think this forum has solved that to some extent. Thank you all for being a part of the forum and special thanks to IMAG5. God bless you. |

Hello Imag 5, I just obtained L2 certs in MPI and UT and I am actually positive about building a career in Assets Integrity but the challenge for me now is acquiring experience in Inspections. I have sent mails to countless Inspection services company yet no response. I am quite aware that this sector is actually based on a lot of recommendations and networking for newbies like me. Get these answer to these questions and you work with me How is Transfer Correction done and what is significance of it? Can you plot a DAC curve |
Re: Geophysicists, Geologists, & Petroleum Engineers: Professionals & Aspirants by dolapomichael: 1:10pm On Jan 02, 2015 |
There is only so much you can learn in 5 days so I will honestly say I do not have a mastery of UT yet. For a Zero probe the tranfer correction is established by placing the probe on the calibration block and adjusting the gain until you get a backwall signal amplitude of 80 to 100% of the screen. The gain for this reading is noted. The process is repeated on the test piece at similar thickness. The gain difference is your transfer correction. Transfer correction is done to compensate for differences such as surface finish, material composition on the test piece. I do not know how to plot a DAC curve as of now but I hope you can help me with internship opportunities to hone these skills. I have only used a UT machine for 3 days. I hope this does not affect working with you. Thanks for your contribution so far imag5: |

Hadn't the patience to go through all forty pages but I must commend everyone here, having skimmed through a few posts on the thread. I am currently on an Msc program in Petroleum Engineering which in some regard feels new to me having a mechanical engineering background. Hopefully aiming to connect with people on here, build partnerships, share ideas and I think this thread is just perfect. Nice to meet you all 1 Like |
