It's 1992, seo taiji and the boys are all the rage in Korea(for those who don't know seo taiji and the boys were a popular idol band in the early 90s). A boy (cks) is writing a letter to seo taiji (me:aigoo lol), he speaks with a Busan accent (the setting is Busan) "seo taiji hyungnim, it's so hot these days, how is your 2nd album coming along? I wrote you a few days ago but I'm writing you another letter to explain why you must accept me as your number 1 apprentice. First of all, I'm sure no one has listened to your songs as much as I have in Korea, I listened to your tape many times that it got all stretched out so I bought 3 copies of your first album, and I'm good at cleaning, cooking and laundry too. I'm sure you're wondering how an 11 year old can do all that. It's because my mom passed away so I have to do everything myself, if you're worried about my parents being against you accepting me, no worries at all. I don't have a family, no siblings, I'm all alone in this big world, if you take me as your apprentice, I'll think of you as my only family forever." Cks is walking with his Walkman and earpiece listening to seo taiji, he hears a voice shout "hyung!", a group of boys are bullying a smaller kid (pi), he's half Korean, half black, he's looking at cks with a pleading look, cks increases the volume of his Walkman, pretends he doesn't see pi and walks away (me:bad boy). Pi runs from the bullies and keeps screaming hyung after cks who doesn't even look back. Cks gets home, pi is sitting on the floor with bruises on his face while a man (yos) is cleaning him up. Cks goes to check through the letters on the table and asks if he didn't get a mail, yos asks cks why he's always roaming about instead of coming home early to do his homework and play with yeongil (that's pi). Cks whines "do you think I have nothing to do?" yos says aigoo and keeps cleaning yeongil's face, yeongil says "dad it hurts" (me: is he adopted or did yos marry a black woman) yos says sorry, it hurts me too. Cks puts a video cassette in the vcr to watch seo taiji and the boys. Yos asks yeongil if he knows the names and class of the boys who beat him? Yeongil steals a glance at cks and says no. Yos tells cks (his name is dongil) to go to school tomorrow and find out the boys who beat yeongil. Dongil says no, I'm busy (me:heol!) yos says you're his older brother, aren't you upset that he got beat up like this? Dongil shouts I'm not upset at all, stop talking to me, I'm watching TV (me: OK diswan deserves cane), yos says yeongil is your brother. The video of seo taiji suddenly changes to female models and dongil screams what is this, yos runs to remove it and dongil shouts did you touch my tape again? Yos says no, I don't know what happened, lol it's obvious he's lying (me: lol let's thank God it's not Indecency he recorded in the cassette). Cks goes to his room in anger, he wants to do his homework but he's too angry and breaks his pencil (me: heol why so much anger in this 11 year old). We hear his voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, just so there's no misunderstanding, the guy I'm living with Choi gukjin(that's yos) is not my dad, that dark kid isn't my brother either, in other words I'm living with people who aren't family at the moment. I overheard hyunchul samchon who's boarding in my house discussing with Choi gukjin and I found out this crazy truth. We see a Flashback and dongil's voice over continues apparently my real dad was a soldier but he got my mom pregnant and ran away so I've never met my real dad, Choi gukjin married her but she died after giving birth to me. After my mom passed away, Gukjin couldn't eat or drink, he was barely surviving day to day, that's when he met yeongil's mom and married her, she gave birth to yeongil and went back to the US, she said she'd be back 6 years ago but she hasn't returned yet, I don't think she ever will, he still thinks she'll return someday.

Hyunchul is sitting drinking outside, dongil goes to join him with a bottle of soda and soju glass (me:aigoo lol as per drinking with adult), hyunchul asks dongil what's bothering him? Dongil says everything's a bother. Hyunchul agrees. Dongil asks what's Seoul like? Hyunchul says it's a great place for rich people with connections. Dongil asks you can't live there without money and connections? Hyunchul says you can, even if your place is in shambles as long as you have hope you can live anywhere in the world. Dongil asks but why are you living in Busan? Hyunchul says because of the ocean (me:lol abi because you're broke), the sea gives writers like me lots of inspiration and good imagination, when I see the ocean, my guts feels refreshed. Dongil says but we can't see the ocean from our house. Hyunchul says ya! I can see it in my imagination. But why do you ask about Seoul, do you want to go there? Dongil says yes. Hyunchul asks are you guys moving? Dongil says no, just by myself, I'll go as soon as I get seo taiji's reply. Hyunchul asks what if he doesn't respond, will you give up? Dongil says he's just busy, he'll soon respond (lewl). Hyunchul says when you get there tell him you'll kill yourself if he doesn't accept you as his apprentice, he'll ignore at first but stand in front of his house come rain or sunshine, he'll be forced to accept you, he'll hold your hands and say with tears running down his face "your persistence has moved me". Patience and persistence moves people. But do you have money? Dongil asks money? Hyunchul says you can't just up and leave, you need transport fare, food and accommodation.... Gukjin comes out and tells hyunchul to stop telling the little boy rubbish. Hyunchul says he's only giving dongil life advice, gukjin tells hyunchul to get his own life together and takes dongil in.

Dongil is in his room, he empties his piggy bank, there's only a few coins in it. His voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, the biggest reason why I want to leave home is because of yeongil. Gukjin cares more about him because he's his real son. Let me tell you a few things about gukjin, whenever he goes out he buys yeongil chocolate milk, he bought me a 20 dollar jacket from the market but bought yeongil a more expensive jacket from the department store, I feel like crying every day and I want to leave right away but I'm keeping strong thanks to you hyungnim. I shouldn't have bought your 1st album but just a few more posters, when I get the money I'll go to you right away. You're my only hope.

The next day yeongil asks dongil if he'll follow him to school, dongil says no. Yeongil says hyungmo keeps bullying me, dongil says why are you telling me that? You take care of it yourself. Yeongil says then I'll tell dad. Dongil says I'll kill you if you do, and I'll tell you again, don't tell anyone I'm your brother, don't even say hi to me at school. Yeongil says OK and leaves.

Gukjin is driving yeongil to school, yeongil asks if dongil isn't in the car because he doesn't want to go with him. Gukjin lies and says no, dongil just wanted to get some exercise by walking (me:aigoo) yeongil says I think hyung doesn't like going to school with me (awwnn) gukjin parks and says dongil's words might be harsh but he loves you, he told me while you were sleeping. Yeongil smiles happily (me:awwnn poor fool). A lady comes to the truck and says she's new in the town and working at the hair salon, she asks gukjin for directions to the district office, he's obviously attracted to her and offers to give her a lift.

At school, dongil and his friends are dancing to seo taiji and all the girls in school are literally dying (me : Lmao these small rats).

Lmao after the performance, the girls gather round dongil giving him sweets and different gifts and fighting over him, the other dancers are jealous, Lmao he winks at the girls and they all scream and start arguing over who the wink was for (laff wan kee me die). A boy runs to one of the dancers screaming "hyungmo!" (me:wait isn't that yeongil's bully, so dongil is friends with his brother's bully?), the running boy tells hyungmo that there's a dance contest that'll happen at haeundae. They all agree to go cos the prize money is 1000 dollars, they start to come up with a team name, one says since dongil is our leader, how about dongil and the boys? Hyungmo says since when did dongil become our leader? Dongil says ya, leaders are nothing special, anyone can become a leader, let's start rehearsing at lunch time. Hyungmo says I can't make lunch, I have to teach one 1st grader a lesson, he goes to his seat. Dongil asks the other guys who the 1st grader is, they say there's a kid called black Joe, we were going to beat him up this morning but he ran away and hyungmo is angry. Dongil's voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, this is not out of concern for yeongil but if hyungmo beats him, gukjin will come to school, then everyone will find out I'm his brother, I hope that doesn't happen".

LOL gukjin takes dongil to the hairstylist to get a haircut while he lusts after her. Dongil's voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, the possibility of this girl liking gukjin is zero, he's wasting his efforts on something that won't happen". The lady tells dongil you look like your brother and he gets angry. Gukjin receives a call from work but he refuses to pick cos he's looking at girl, dongil is annoyed and tells him to go that he can take care of himself, gukjin wants to pay and leave but realizes he forgot his wallet at home, the hairstylist tells him to pay her later but he refuses and says he'll come back with the wallet.

Gukjin gets home and another call from work comes in so he asks yeongil to go pay the hairstylist.

At the salon dongil is waiting for gukjin to come with the money when hyungmo comes to get a haircut. Lmao yeongil comes in screaming hyung, dongil pretends he doesn't see him, yeongil walks up to him and says dad had to go to work so I brought the money, hyungmo does an evil smile.

At school the next day, everyone is gossiping about dongil calling him black Joe's brother. Hyungmo and the other dancers tell him they're removing him from the group, he asks why, hyungmo says come to think of it seo taiji and the boys have 3 members and we are 4, dongil says but why am I the one being kicked out? Hyungmo says we voted. By the way, black Joe is your brother, why didn't you tell us, were you embarrassed? Dongil says you're wrong, he's not my brother. Hyungmo asks why does he call you hyung? At home, dongil is sad cos he can't join the contest, yeongil comes and tries to play with him, dongil hits him with the poster of the dance contest. Yeongil says hyung, what can I do to make you feel better? I'll do whatever you ask me. Dongil says then become fair like a Korean person, make your feet, hands and face white, if you can't don't call me hyung or speak to me again, he leaves. (me: wow, this can drive someone to commit suicide o). *sigh* yeongil takes his eraser and starts cleaning his skin (I'm crying, this is actually painful to watch)

Gukjin is at the bank when the hairstylist comes in (her name is sukja), she says she came to deposit money for her boss. Gukjin says he'd like to buy her dinner to thank her for giving them nice haircuts and being nice to his sons, sukja politely declines. He leaves and she hisses and says to herself how dare he? and he's even a widower. She realizes he forgot his bankbook on the counter, she opens it and realizes he has a lot of money in his account. She runs out after him to give him his bankbook and accepts his dinner invitation (me:Lmao a gold digger, I stan).

Yeongil is walking alone as usual when he sees a vendor selling whitening creams and lotions.

At school dongil gives hyungmo all of his seo taiji merch and asks if he can join the group back? Hyungmo says no, dongil says I'll dance at the back, I don't have to be the leader, you be the leader. Hyungmo says you the best dancer should be the leader, dongil says no, I've always thought you were the best dancer (aigoo). Hyungmo smirks and says then why did you tell your brother to do that? Black Joe says you're the best dancer in the school and I'm no competition, didn't you tell him to say that? Dongil says no. Hyungmo says whatever, I don't want your merch and I don't want to to dance with you. Yeongil's voice shouts wait! Everyone looks and starts laughing, he rubbed white powder on his face looking like ojuju, he says hyungmo let my brother dance with you, it's because my face is black, that's why you won't dance with him, I'm not dark anymore so let him dance with you(me:oh honey). Dongil is angry and shouts at yeongil to shut up, he pushes yeongil and tells him to leave, yeongil goes "hyung?" dongil shouts I'm not your brother! Hyungmo says wow, did you plan this with black Joe? You wanted to dance with us so you asked your brother to do this. Dongil says I never asked him, he's not my brother. Hyungmo pushes yeongil and says stop denying it, my mom told me your mom had an affair with a black man, gave birth to black Joe and ran away. Dongil punches hyungmo, they start fighting, of course hyungmo is stronger.

Dongil is going home while yeongil is running after him calling "hyung". Dongil grabs yeongil by the collar and shouts "I've told you to stop calling me that, why embarrass me like that, it's all your fault, nothing goes my way because of you, you ruined my whole life" he pushes yeongil to the ground and says you'd better

ignore me from now or I won't let you go, I'll beat you to death OK. He walks away.

At home they are eating, hyunchul is with them, gukjin notices the bruises on dongil's face and asks how he got them. Dongil's voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, I wanted to tell them everything, how miserable I was because of yeongil, how yeongil was ruining my life". Gukjin says don't tell us if you don't want to, boys grow up fighting, it's OK. Dongil is relieved. Yeongil says dad, I want to go to the US, everyone is shocked. Yeongil says send me to mom, I want to live with mom. Gukjin says but I told you no last time, why are you telling me this again? Yeongil asks why can't I go? I want to go to mom, I don't want to live in Korea. He hands gukjin their telephone and says call mom now, call her and tell her I'm going to the US. Gukjin asks "what's wrong, did someone say something to you, did someone bully you? Dongil screams let him go if he wants to, no one wants him here, if he goes there it's good for him and for us too, am I wrong? Gukjin gets angry, brings out a cane and beats dongil, dongil is angrier, Yeongil starts crying while hyunchul is trying to stop gukjin from killing dongil with cane saying he's just an immature kid. Dongil's voice over "even an immature 11 year old knows that blood is thicker than water, if my mom were alive, my life wouldn't be like this, why'd she have to pass away leaving me behind, Why'd she have to make my life miserable? Seo taiji hyungnim, there's no more hope in my life.

Gukjin is at the school discussing with dongil's teacher, she says she recently learnt from the other kids that hyungmo has been bothering dongil. Gukjin starts blaming himself for being a bad dad who can't tell when something's wrong with his kid, the teacher consoles him and tells him he's doing a good job for a single father, she promises to pay more attention to dongil. She asks if he's not heard from her yet, he says no (me:hmm who's her?)

Gukjin and sukja are on a date, she basically convinces him that she's a nice person who can be a good stepmother to his kids, she seduces him and they end up in a motel.

Next scene, she has moved in with them (aigoo). She wins their hearts with food except for dongil who's suspicious of her and the attention she shows yeongil.

Dongil's voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, if the hairstylist becomes my stepmother what will happen to me?

Dongil is discussing with one of his fans lol, he tells her his life history and she starts crying saying she pities him for growing up without the love of his real parents, he tells her he's fine without them all he needs is to go to Seoul for seo taiji to make him his apprentice, she says but he hasn't replied your letters, what if he doesn't reply till you grow old and die? He gets angry, she says how about visiting my uncle? He's a music producer and he knows seo taiji, I can make him arrange a meeting for you and seo taiji, all you have to do is get transport fare to Seoul.

Dongil goes about picking any loose coins he finds in random places, meanwhile sukja is starting to show her true colors little by little, she pretends not to notice when people bully yeongil, as soon as the bullies leave she goes back to being extra nice to him.

At home dongil asks yeongil if he really likes sukja, yeongil says he doesn't know and asks how dongil feels about her? Dongil says he doesn't like her, yeongil says then I don't like her too. Dongil asks "what does my opinion have to do with you? Yeongil replies we are on the same side. Dongil asks him if he has money, yeongil says yes. Dongil says lend me, I'll pay you back later, yeongil gives dongil his piggybank, dongil empties it excitedly but is disappointed cos the money is still not enough. He takes yeongil to go money hunting with him, they pick coins from people who accidentally drop them. Yeongil asks dongil why he needs money, dongil says he won't tell him cos he tells dad everything. Yeongil promises not to tell. Dongil says I'm going to Seoul to meet seo taiji, yeongil is excited for him, and says he'd like to go with him, dongil says if you find a lot of money, I'll take you. Even in the rain these mumu children keep searching for money.

Yeongil falls ill(Lmao of course) he lies that its because he played in the rain, as gukjin and sukja are taking care of him, she suddenly runs to vomit, dongil and yeongil suspect she's pregnant, yeongil asks dongil if dad and sukja will get married? Dongil says probably. Yeongil says but dad is married to my mom how can he also marry sukja, dongil says cos she's the one he loves now, you're supposed to marry the person you love. Yeongil asks but what's going to happen to us if sukja marries dad, won't she scold us like Cinderella's stepmother, make us clean and starve us? Dongil says I'll leave before that happens, yeongil asks what about me? Dongil says sukja likes you, she won't be mean to you. Yeongil says she doesn't like me. Dongil says how do you know, anyway I don't care, take care of yourself. Yeongil says please hyung take me with you to Seoul, I'll find my own transport fare, dongil is irritated but says OK, no problem. Gukjin is sleeping drunk, dongil steals money from gukjin.

At the salon *dramatic gasp* sukja has a boyfriend and they are planning to scam gukjin into giving her his money using pregnancy as an excuse, she plans to marry gukjin so she can have access to his account.

Dongil is walking, we hear his voice over reading the goodbye note he wrote to hyunchul "samchon, I'm going to Seoul, thank you so much for everything, I'll never forget the time I spent with you. Tell Choi gukjin that I'm not his son and I'm grateful for him raising me. When I succeed as a singer, I'll come and visit you. Take care until then. We see dongil leaving, while yeongil is in the rain coughing and looking for loose coins on the ground (aigoo).

Dongil goes to meet his "girlfriend" who gives him a letter to take to her uncle who will introduce him to seo taiji. Dongil thanks her(her name is sojeong) and says he'll never forget what she's done for him, she tells him to keep in touch. As he's about to leave the Cafe to go catch the train, gukjin and sukja come into the Cafe. Dongil hides behind their booth so they don't see him. Sukja asks why gukjin brought her to the Cafe, he says he wants to talk to her, he says I know the baby you're carrying isn't mine, (me:thank God he's smart). She's shocked and starts shouting "are you suspecting me of cheating bla bla bla". Gukjin says I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid and I thought you would leave me but I'm impotent (ghen ghen). She's shocked and says are dongil and yeongil not your kids? He says honestly yeongil's mom isn't a soldier, she's not American either, yeongil and dongil's mom is Korean. Sukja is shocked, dongil is also shocked in his hiding place. I found out I was impotent after dongil's birth and it made the relationship between my wife and I worse, dongil's mom fell in love with a black soldier that was stationed nearby, after giving birth to yeongil she decided she couldn't take it anymore and left us. Yeongil and dongil don't know they have the same mom, if I tell them the truth both dongil who was abandoned by his mom and yeongil that'll learn that I'm not his dad will be so pitiful, so I lied to them that dongil's mom died and yeongil's mom is in the US. I was afraid that you'd mistreat yeongil if I told you I wasn't his real dad, that's why I didn't tell you the truth. You don't have to feel guilty, I wish you a happy life. I know you really cared for my kids, I'm sorry, I'll leave now.

Gukjin is walking back home in the rain, dongil follows behind him. Hyunchul runs out screaming that yeongil collapsed in the playground.

They all rush to a hospital, yeongil is passed out on gukjin's back. A doctor comes to check his vitals and in the process a coin falls from yeongil's hands, dongil remembers how yeongil said he'll find his own transport fare to follow dongil to Seoul and all the times he was mean to him, not protecting him from bullies, he feels guilty, he kneels down and starts crying, begging the doctor to save yeongil, he tells his dad he's at fault and promises to always take yeongil to school. Gukjin hugs him.

Outside hyunchul shows gukjin the goodbye note dongil wrote, gukjin scolds hyunchul for telling gukjin the Yeye stories, hyunchul apologizes and says he was just coming up with novel ideas and didn't really think dongil was listening to him.

Dongil is lying with yeongil on his hospital bed, he happily cuddles his brother (awwnn).

Back at home, dongil comes back from school, gukjin and hyunchul tell him there's a letter for him from seo taiji, he excitedly grabs the letter lol mumu, it's obvious they wrote the letter themselves but dongil believes it's real. He opens the letter, basically "seo taiji" apologizes for not responding on time and says he can't accept dongil as an apprentice because he wants him to be with his family, besides Busan is prettier than Seoul, Seoul has dust and dirt and noise and no beaches. Lol dongil is surprised, he looks at the envelope and realizes that taiji is spelt teji, he knows his dad wrote it but just plays along. Yeongil says taiji wants you to compete in the dance contest, I can join you lol (he can't even dance) dongil says we need to be at least 3 members to compete, gukjin says he'll join them.

Hyunchul makes a poster for their dance team.

At the contest, the Mc is surprised and says oh we have a foreigner here, he asks yeongil in English if he can speak Korean lol the boy doesn't even understand English and is just staring, people start laughing, dongil says, my name is Choi dongil, this is my brother yeongil, he's not a foreigner, he's Korean. The mc apologizes. Dongil also introduces his dad. Their team name is Choi gukjin and the boys (aigoo). Lol they do their mumu dance, everyone cheers, all the school girls fall back in love with dongil, hyungmo and his team are jealous. Dongil's voice over "seo taiji hyungnim, I decided not to go to Seoul, that's because you don't need me but dad and yeongil need me".

Awwnn seo taiji actually came to watch the contest with dongil's letters in his hands. The endeu.

I would rate this 6/10.

What I liked about it
1. The main boy, he's just such a good actor.

2. I love the fact that they focused on racism, I honestly cannot imagine what mixed kids or Africans brought up in Korea go through but I hope the world becomes a better place.

3. Some nice lessons, I really wish parents would be more honest with their kids, if dongil knew yeongil was his brother, he would have been nicer to him. Plus my best lesson Lmao before you pin pregnancy on a man, make sure he's not impotent.

LOL it's a reality dating show called somebody, it's like love catcher and heart signal but for dancers, so the contestants are supposed to make connections with people and come up with Choreography for a couple dance. There are 2 seasons out, I couldn't finish season 1 cos I got invested in a ship early and it wasn't working out but I'm currently enjoying this season 2 with all it's madness cos I've decided not to invest my heart and just go with the flow. I will cry but I won't be sad lol, even me I'm not making sense to myself

Random madness post : lol hopefully this is the last time I post about somebody season 2 cos I finally finished it yesterday, yayyy Lmao. I know some people here plan to watch it so I'll try my best not to spoil everything, all I'll say is I was very happy and a little bit sad at the same time but the biggest thing for me was that I wasn't hurt and I think it's because I didn't really watch the last episode (spoiler alert : I couldn't find it on any website) so I had to make do with watching YouTube clips and bits of their final showcase. And to avoid headache, I only watched the bits with my absolute fave Kim sori, I'm happy she didn't end up alone, I'm happy with her choice but she also made me a bit sad. I still maintain that I like everybody in this season, they are all just so special and they are all such mumus. Anyway I know I've listed my faves, now I'm going to talk about attitudes that got me the most

1. Kim sori, I don't even know why I love her but I just do, I'm happy cos she started out like someone that won't get anything but ended up being sought after and I'm like hian is this you? I'm happy she asked jayb out on a date cos it helped him release himself from karashika

2. Song jaeyeob, like I've said before, just the bestest guy, I'm happy he disentangled himself from mumu love pentagon even though it was a bit painful cos he and karashika actually liked each other but I'm OK with his decision.

3. Jungmo, my moomoo, I'm not going to lie this guy gives me psycho vibes, I think that's why I love him the most. I'm grateful for him coming and showing sori some attention, my girl was basically in the background until he came. Lee do Yoon, so I think this boy deceived me, he comes off as super awkward and clumsy and always cracking dad jokes, even sori playfully calls him oppa even though she's older than him because he's always behaving weird and old school but I think I enjoyed his dates the most. He's unintentionally funny and can put anyone at ease, I do think he's patriarchal tho cos he was always looking for girl to cook for him anyway the girls were willing to so...

Yerim, she wasn't in my initial love list but that's because I honestly don't think she's human, she has to be an angel, she's just so pure, I think she's the only person that didn't do anything to annoy me.
