I never dreamed I could ever sit down and watch a series that wasn't a historical or period drama.

But I'm now watching [size=14pt]King 2 Hearts[/size], a great action romance (?) series starring Ha Ji-Won (Empress Ki) and Lee Seung-Gi (Gu Family Book). I started watching it because I'm a fan of Ha Ji-Won after she played Empress Ki. Also, there's Lee Seung-Gi who was Kang Chi from Gu Family Book so that's cool too.

So far I'm enjoying the King 2Hearts series. Very refreshing and action-packed. Unlike "You Who Came From the Stars" which I couldn't even finish episode one, I'm now on ep 03 of King 2Hearts so that's saying something

Wow! I've been able to see quite a few in the past several months since I started watching Korean dramas. For now, it's 99% historical/period dramas on my 'watched' list, so my apologies I love their historical costumes and acting. So I mainly look out for their ancient-themed dramas. I've named them a few times on this thread, but will list a few I can remember once again>>>


----Arang and the Magistrate (my first k-drama, became a fan of the male lead Lee Joon Ki my best Korean actor )

----Kang Chi (Gu Family Book) -- (interesting concept of 'werewolf' type hero, nice)

----Jung Yi (about a girl who learns pottery/ceramics making and falls for the King)

----Dong Yi (really long palace drama, interesting in a way)

----Empress Ki (my number one fave drama of all time - I think I've said this before like x100 lol)

----Warrior Baek Dong Soo (wwooow, cried a lot in this drama, so much emotion, really great actors)

----Sword and Flower (my second fave drama, so romantic yet sad. You have been warned )

----Great Seer (long and interesting, very touching story of bravery and romance)

----King's Daughter Su Baek Hyang (my goodness, have not yet recovered from this rollercoaster drama, so good in a wrong way lmao)

----Moon Embraces the Sun (another palace drama, will make you want to cry a lot hee hee )

----Joseon Gunman (Lee Joon Ki my fave is here, so this gets a 10/10 hands down great, moving drama).

----Bi Chun Moo (great, a bit short but interesting)

So much more, but those are Chinese and Japanese historical dramas so I can't list them all here. Other Korean series are there which I've started but not finished so can't really recommend for now, like Jumong, Sea God, NightWatchmen, Three Musketeers etc. If you can watch the first 10 on my list, you'll become a K-drama fan confirmed, in no time at all

Here's a new historical/period K-drama alert :-)

If you're like me and watch out for any new series based on historical/period drama then good news! There're TWO hot looking dramas to look forward to. One starts its first episode today (King's Face) and the second one, The Maids, starts in December. I was really happy when period dramas like Joseon Gunman, Three Musketeers and Nightwatchman's Journal came out and now it's that time again! Can't wait to see the first episodes!

King's Face

A drama based on the illegitimate prince Gwanghae (Seo In Guk), who gets to ascend to the throne following a bloody war. The story follows the growth of Gwanghae, as well as the tragic triangle love story between one woman and Gwanghae and Sunjo, father and son.

“The King’s Face” will begin airing on November 19 taking over the time slot for “Blade Man.”


Maids

Laughter never ends on the filming set of "Maids".

"Maids" is the third Joseon historical drama following after "Queen Insoo" and "Cruel Palace - War of Flowers" (from JTBC network)

It's a love story between young men and women in a time of class and status. The first episode can be seen on the 12th of December

Got a recommendation to see "The Hotel king" from this thread,i must confess that i very much enjoyed it.

I must say I've enjoyed the first 2 episodes of King's Face.

Got to see it first on YouTube but I discovered has better video quality so I downloaded again from there.

The story follows the usual saguek/S-Korean costume drama theme of palace intrigue, girls cross-dressing as boys, prince falling for unknown girl/boy, handsome prince has mysterious issues to face before gaining throne...

Watched the same kind of tropes in 70% of all the costume dramas I've seen. But, I like the pretext of using physiognomy to know who should be king. Reminds me of the South Korean movie "The Face Reader" which was also pretty good.
