Associated Airlines: Weight Of Casket, Negligence Cited For Plane Crash by homesteady(m): 12:47am On Oct 13, 2013
Fresh facts emerged yesterday of
other remote causes of the crash
of an Associated Airlines plane
conveying the body of the late
former Governor of Ondo State,
Dr. Olusegun Agagu, from Lagos
to Akure, on October 3. The
plane, having on board 20
passengers, crashed barely a
minute after take-off from the
Murtala Mohammed Airport in
Lagos.
Though the Accident
Investigation Bureau, AIB, in its
preliminary report, Friday
indicated that a pilot error might
have caused the crash, other
possible reasons for the mishap
were also adduced yesterday by a
well-placed source in the
embattled airline.
The source revealed to Sunday
Mirror that the casket bearing
the late governor’s body was
apparently too heavy for the
aircraft as the weight of the
casket played a dominant role in
the lethargic movement of the
plane, which in turn contributed
to its poor take-off.
“Ordinarily, that casket was too
heavy for a passengers’ plane of
that little size; the casket should
have been put in a cargo plane
and this impacted on the poor
take-off of the plane”, the source
disclosed.
Apart from that, the source
revealed that the engineer who
certified the aircraft for the trip
was negligent and ought to have
recommended that the plane
should not fly, knowing it was in a
bad shape. Corroborating him,
one of the survivors of the
aircrash who is now hospitalised,
reportedly revealed to close
associates that he spotted a big
crack at the window side of the
aircraft when seated, and that it
was through the same cracked
spot that he managed to wriggle
himself out when the plane
crashed.
The AIB, in the report, had
blamed the plane’s pilot, Captain
Abdulraham Yakubu, for insisting
on going ahead with the journey
when his co-pilot advised that
they should discontinue with the
journey.
Using initial data sieved from the
Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, the
AIB was also able to determine
that the internal warning system
of the plane had alarmed of
danger, stating, ‘Take off flaps,
Auto Feather,’ but that the pilot
also ignored this automated
warning.

Does the authority not have weight recommendation for planes, be it small or big ones.

Personally, I don't believe in the weight issue, it has more to do with the pilot's negligence.

Then, if it has to do with the weight indeed, then the aviation authority should be blamed.

Smh at weight of the coffin! What other lies will they tell us? That the plane was supposed to carry 10 passengers and not 20?
