Former Black Stars defender John Painstil has hailed coach Stephen Keshi for the tactical changes he made in the second half which saw the Super Eagles defeat the Walya Ibex of Ethiopia 2-1 in Addis Ababa in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier. Speaking as a guest analyst on SuperSport, the former Fulham defender praised the Eagles for showing character despite going one goal down. “I predicted a 1-0 victory for Nigeria but they ended up winning 2-1. Good one for Nigeria, coming from a goal down to win 2-1. They showed character and the changes made by the coach were also good, especially in the midfield because it prevented the Ethiopians from penetrating,” he said. Ahead of the return leg in Calabar, Painstil went on to state that the game is not over. “I think the game is not over yet because we still have the return leg in Nigeria, which will decide who finally goes through,” he said.
