Waspy: If its a mere MoU as you claimed, then whats FG waiting for? It shld come out to tell its MoU and then sue ASUU for neglect of Duty, blackmail or something u expect the FG to put up a signboard screaming ''WE DONT HONOUR AGREEMENTS''? ASUU and FG cant enter into a valid contract abt dis issue cos they cant meet all d essentials of a valid contract...btw...i dnt beleive d post, it sounds dubious. |

dr_joshua2000: 50 percent of education budget 2 education?, and all the plenty allowance?, excess workload allowace?, 200,000K per thesis to professor, transfer of Univeristy lands to universities?, fed government funding state Universities. And still Universities having autonomy? Paying lecturers to supervise projects and exams? Then what is their work na. Heartless agreement. This will cause crises by other workers in other fields. Don't mind being a lecturer ones the agreement is implemented though. Heartless agreement you call it. Didn't those who represented the FG in the negotiations read the agreement? abi, catarrh dey for their eyes ni? |

HNosegbe: The part of the agreement I don't understand is one that talks about FG funding of state universities. That doesn't make sense to me - why can't states fund their own universities appropriately, or design creative financing options?HNosegbe, there is no confusion in the agreement. It was even the FG team that suggested the inclusion of the state universities to bring about uniformity. But, it has turned out to be a political gimmick aimed at 2011 votes. And for those saying ASUU is calous and insensitive, let them advise the FG to go to National Industrial Court, if they think they have a case against ASUU. Has the govt learnt the way to court only in matters concerning the newPDP? |

Most,if nt all,of their agitations can not improve the standard of education in Nigeria. And they are in a way selfish wit their demands. They need to pressurize govt to provide jobs for millions of their students dat have graduated for years without jobs. This large sum of money can be channeled into creation of employments for the teeming jobless youths. We are all Nigerians and everyone is supposed to be treated equally.Millions of Nigerians are unemployed and some are agitating for self-centred demands.Pls,it is high time fed. Govt addressed this unemployment issue dat has become cankerworm wch has eaten deeply into the fabric of the country economic growth. 1 Like |

Dear Nigerian students so eager to go back to school have you asked yourself - what you are really going back to? - The education you are currently getting does it equip you to compete equally with your counterparts around the world? - why don't you all rise up and fight for what is rightfully yours? - Is ASUU really the enemy here? - Did ASUU have to embark on this strike for everyone including you to know that the education system is decaying and needs reforms? - With advanced technology why are you all still crying about handouts what happened to projectors and the lecturers either sending you slides or uploading them in a central system where you can access? - How many practical projects have you carried out? 3 Likes |

Deiok: ASUU should pls. Forget about the agreement and call off the strike, since the reason they are on strike is for the students sake, and yet the students are the same people suffering from the strike.they are not fighting for the present student but rather for future student current student are suffering for the future student |

Promhize: God punish this idiots. I was almost supporting them but on a second thought, this guys are greedy old men, destroying students lives with no sense of regret. After spending close to 100 hours fielding questions on the ASUU strike last week on this same Nairaland, I had decided to just face my work and go through the various threads on the strike in stealth mode to pa ironu re. However, your post was so strongly-worded and ignorant that I had to decloak immediately to speak to it. My dear young man, I lecture in that same OAU you are mouthing about. No be your fault. I wish you had attended some other universities in Nigeria; then perhaps you would have valued what you have here more. Elede o meye. Your angry rant is fueled primarily by simple ignorance of the fact that by paying less than N100,000 for an education worth at least N1 million, students are a primary cause of the reason why the FG spends so much on tertiary education. Yes, the fight we are taking to FG to raise money may yet come back to haunt you guys. Have you ever paused your rant to ask yourself why ASUU doesn't just call off and let the government jerk up school fees? Believe me, if it were in my power, I would have made us do this long ago. Then you would stop accusing us of being selfish old men because you would be too busy working your guts out to raise the money for your education. The truth of the matter must be said: nobody in Nigeria wants to pay for anything. That is why a student like you is being given education that others mortgage their futures to get in the US, and you can still be ranting. Did you see where someone obviously better than you suggested that a PG education somewhere abroad costs N5 million? Yet, you are mouthing off that OAU had the guts to collect N20,000 from you. You want ASUU to fight so you wont pay even that. Since you say you are in OAU, I challenge you to say the university has NOT improved over the last 10 years. Do you even have any idea why that is so I can understand now why most ASUU members view students with contempt; they lack the capacity for simply comprehension, preferring to raise hell. This country is probably doomed, and I'm not thinking about GEJ or ASUU when I say that; I am looking at *you*. 2 Likes |

I've always said that ASSU is a bunch of greedy and selfish lecturers fighting for their pockets. Some misunderstood and called me childish. I've been vindicated. How can you hold a gun to FG's head and ask them to sign an agreement and they won't? When it's obvious they want to do all they can to keep students in school. How selfish of those lecturers |

prof.femi:prof, what i am particularly concerned about is the attitude of this lecturers, in oau only lecturers from the department of chemistry take their work serious, others are just there, they come to class, and read an hand out to u, to explain they read all of the lines back, the lecturers in d department of physics are supposed to hold tutorials for phy 101 but they dont, now tell me will the funds from the fg change all these? 1 Like |

Fallacy. I take my work extremely seriously. I keep my teaching methods and courseware at par (or close) to the best universities in the world. And I do *not* work in Department of Chemistry. I have always maintained that we have "bad egg" lecturers. I almost always also state that we also have some outstanding lecturers. The fact of the matter is, we cannot fire the bad lecturers until we know for a fact that we have the wherewithal to hire anything better in their place. Tell me, how many first class students do you know who chose to lecture? Can you tell me why? Does it not go back to this same funding issue? |
