Gov Shettima Gives Out 540 Cows At Sallah by Nobody: 6:48am On Oct 20, 2013
Widows, orphans, poor breadwinners and other vulnerable groups in Maiduguri and Jere local government areas of Borno State had a great time during the just concluded Eid el Kabir (Babbar Sallah) celebration.

Virtually everyone had enough meat to eat courtesy of Governor Kashim Shettima who directed for the purchase of 540 cows which were subsequently distributed to the less privileged to mark the Sallah season.

It was the first of its kind in the history of the State.
Apart from the cows, hundreds of rams were also distributed to the people by the Borno State government, thereby satisfying the spiritual urge of the people to have sacrificial animal as ordained by God.

It was reliably gathered that on the orders of Governor Shettima, the caretaker chairmen of the remaining 25 local councils in Borno State also reached out to many people and communities with the rams and cows.

Both the cows and the rams were seen as great relief by many parents because the animals satisfied the crave of their children.

The joy of the Sallah cows and rams was therefore much more evident in places inhabited by the poor in Maiduguri and Jere, the two councils that have the largest population of people in the State.

These are areas that also suffered the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency which crippled the social life of the people and truncated the economic fortunes of many.

The coming of the Sallah cows was therefore a great and an unforgettable relief for many families who never anticipated a grand celebration in foreseeable future.

“It is a Sallah with a difference for our people. We thank Allah for giving us Governor Kashim Shettima, to me, he is God sent…he is an exceptionally different leader and a welfarist,” said Lawan Makinta, the village head of Shehuri North 11 in Maiduguri Metropolitan council.

540 cows were purchased and slaughtered for the indigents in all the 27 wards in Maiduguri and Jere. There are 15 wards in Maiduguri and 12 wards in Jere.

A visit to Limanti, Shehuri North, Lamisula Jabbari, Gamboru, Gwange, Bolori, Shehuri South, Hausari, Mafoni, Ngomari, Bulumkutu, Mashamari, Bulabulin, Bulabulin Ali Kotoko, Ngarnam, Gongolam, Mairi, Old Maiduguri, Tufa, Dusuman and Zabalmari showed people, full of smiles as they watched how the cows were slaughtered.

Each ward got 20 cows that were in the streets for the less privileged residents who could not afford rams.
Lawans (village heads), Bulamas (ward heads) and Aja (district heads) as well as Imams of Friday mosques; Commissioners of Poverty Alleviation and Youths Empowerment, Home Affairs, Information and Culture; chairmen of MMC and Jere local government areas were all involved in the coordination of the programme.

The Borno State Butchers Association was contracted in handling the distribution and the supervisors said the idea was that no one that slaughtered ram would comfortably stand in front of less privileged residents of his own area to demand meat from the cow.

We are all thanking Allah for giving us a governor like him.
Hope when a Christian governor buys 5000 chickens (which is not in anyway comparable to 540 cows and several rams) for his state during christmas, people won't hang themselves in fury? And those good at politicising won't dance nake d?
