BENUE CLASH: DAVID MARK PLEADS AGAINST REPRISAL ATTACK

Senate President, David Mark, has appealed to victims of the recent communal clash in Benue State to desist from carrying out reprisals against their attackers.

The attack on the people of Ogwule-Ankpa in Agatu Local Government Area left 50 houses razed and claimed 17 lives.

In a statement on Sunday, Mark assured the victims that government was making efforts to address the crisis.

“I can feel your pains and agonies. It is a disturbing situation. However, vengeance or reprisal attack is not the answer. It is the primary responsibility of government to protect the citizenry,” said Mark.

“Government would reinforce security in this environment so that you can return to your homes and go about your legitimate businesses.’’

The Senate President urged Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi State governments to co-operate in order to ensure adequate security in boundary communities to check incursion by mercenaries.
