The Katsina State Government says it has released N148 million to facilitate the projects and accreditation of the School of Nursing and School of Midwifery in Katsina and Malaumfashi, respectively.

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Mannir Talba, made the disclosure at a press briefing in Katsina on Friday.

Talba said that the projects include the purchase of additional books, training materials, hospital equipment and upgrading of facilities at the two schools.

He said government had approved the recruitment of 49 teaching staff for the two schools required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to meet accreditation.

The commissioner said all the recommendations of the committee set up by the state government for the facilitation of accreditation of the two schools had been approved and were being implemented.

Talba also said the law which established the College of Health Science had been reviewed by the state government.

The commissioner said that a new bill establishing the College of Nursing and Midwifery was already at the House of Assembly.

He noted that the bill was one of the recommendations of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria after their visit to the state.

The commissioner assured that all facilities would be put in place at the two schools before the end of October when the accreditation team would visit the state.
