Which Should I Study? Petroleum Engineering Or Electrical Engineering by stevebent(m): 2:53pm On Oct 23, 2013 |
Hello. I Need Advice On Choosing A Career. I Left Secondary School This Year With Good Grades But I'm Confused On Which Course I Should Choose. I've Narrowed It Down To Three Courses Namely: Petroleum Engineering, Chemical And Electrical Engineering. Considering The Pay, Petroleum Engineering Is The Best Paying. But I'm Worried About The Future Of The Job Since There's A Campaign Against Fossil Fuel. Is There A Future For This Career? Will There Still Be A Great Demand In The Next 7 Years? About Chemical, It's Broad And All. But, Can I Work In An Oil Company With This? And What's The Job Prospect? Can I Use A Degree In Electrical Engineering To Do Masters In Petroleum Engineering As This Seems More Future Proof Of All The Three. Professional And Reasonable Advices Needed. Thanks |

Electrical Engineering is the best, though a bit tough followed by Chemical, though broad, Petroleum Engineering, though narrowed down to only Petroleum line, which makes job prospects for it more narrow than other two. You can work in any manufacturing or producing company ranging from oil, chemicals, food, fertilizers, and the list goes on, that works with processes and instrumentation with electrical or Chemical Engineering qualification both in downstream and upstream section, but for Petroleum Engineering mainly on Upstream section of Petroleum production, which makes it much narrower. And you can still do your masters in Petroleum Engineering, notwithstanding the Engineering course you studied in your first degree, while opposite is the case of Petroleum Engineering. Well, if your heart still goes for Petroleum Engineering, go with your heart. But let me just break it down in order of preference in oil industry Mechanical>Electrical>Chemical>Petroleum 1 Like |
