Well for you diasporans battle on. Personally I can't see how the comments of a man nearly 12,000 miles away can warrant my critical attention. His problem with Obama is an American thing. We have our issues here to contend with. 3 Likes |

No be only petition, you for sue am to court. Nonesense. We in Naija are not bothered by whatever an American Senator say or do, we are more interested in cutting drastically the earnings of our own Senators. Afam4eva: the apology changes nothing. being a nigerian in the US is a burden, a huge burden! whether cruz said this or not is irrelevant one scam email from another naija jobless guy will undo 1 million apologies from a Sen Ted Cruz changes nothing until nigeria learns to take care of her own people at home. 7 Likes |

Afam4eva:Bros I've never heard a white man call himself American-Nigerian or British-Congolese, why is she attaching two nationalities to herself as if she's the first? The salient question is: Aren't Nigerians infamous for advance fee fraud aka Yahoo? Didn't Nigerians dance to the tunes of "I go chop your Dollar by Nkem Owoh", "Yahooze by Maintain" and "Maga don pay by ?"? How many "petition" did Ogugua signed to stop such? Bros, she just dey form serious make people wey no know her before know say na Yankee she dey live(as if na only she). She want just give impression say she get mouth for Yankee but me and you know how far. Nigeria Image was bastardized by scammers and not Senator Ted. What happens if he doesn't apoloigize?? NOTHING!! Should diasporans threaten to relocate from US, will it affect their economy? YES! But in a positive way. I can state that she is not more patriotic than me. Real patriots are "holistic" in their approach. 5 Likes |
Re: Petition: Make Senator Cruz Apologize For His Offensive Remarks by Nobody: 10:57pm On Oct 25, 2013 |
okay, let me give one example. every year some nigerians in the US contribute few thousands of dollars to give "scholarship" to poor kids in Nigeria. this scholarship sometimes is as little as N50,000 ($316) per secondary school student. Now, imagine how many students that a person like Dangote can give schoolarship to in nigeria if he wants to. or imagine how many graduates can be employed if nigeria wants with all the oil money flowing into the pockets of Nigerian government officials. things like email scams can be reduced in ways that are remarkable that way. But knowing naija, they would rather blame Sen cruz than face the real issues. Even the Op can help by giving scholarship to at least 1 poor nigerian student. Some of Nigerian Americans are doing just that, rather than wasting time chasing shadows signing endless petitions! |

Person wey get work no go get time dey carry for head what one Senator Ted said(which is the blunt truth). ol'boy even students here sometimes earn income. i started giving money to "save the children" charity organization when I was earning minimum wage here. i gradually increased that to giving scholarship (together with others) to poor kids in naija. it doesn't take much. for the same amount i use to go to movies, i do that very easily. the key is "mindset" one has to have that mindset, or else even someone with $1 billion will never do it. |

Ogugua, the man said the truth. There are many Nigerian scammers around hence the general classification of the act as Nigerian. Ponzi wasn't the only fraud of his kind yet his tactics are named after him. Google the Ponzi scam. You people are forming holiness and untrue castigation. Please drop the hypocrisy and let us face the facts and collectively heal this country. 6 Likes |

When that Nigerian was making a song about chopping peoples dollar everybody was dancing. Nobody was offended. Ted Cruz is an American senator that does not give two bleeps about Nigeria, the same attitude Nigerian politicians have about Nigeria. I hate the man but I hate Nigerian leaders more. 2 Likes |

The only way to deal with this problem is from the roots. Below is the only thing we'll accomplish if we go "demanding an apology" all over the internet. 1 Like

Afam4eva: Maybe it doesn't affect you the way it affects her. She's a Nigerian American and such utterance gives a very bad image to Nigerians especially those in America. Yes. And his apology, if it comes, doesn't have to change anything. No, his apology will not end the ASUU strike, or make the conditions of some Nigerians improve, or even change the price of garri. It isn't always about what you can gain though. Sometimes, it's simply about making a point. If we don't bring to attention Senator Cruz's err, then we'll be trampled upon by American politicians the same way the Nigerian government tramples on its citizens. Sure, it may be a small fight, and one that may be lost, but it's better to try and fail than do nothing and fail from the very beginning. 3 Likes |

Dear Senator, RE: NIGERIAN EMAIL SCAMMERS AND OBAMACARE You are no doubt aware of the reaction of Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to a statement credited to your good self on the above. Our immediate reaction at the Embassy is to assume that you were wrongly quoted and that the statement would be denied. We are however surprised that this has not happened. We have no choice than to assume that the statement was deliberately made by you. For a start we are shocked that a high profile Senator of a country which is at the forefront in building a peaceful and stable world in which nations and peoples treat each other with mutual respect could be engaged in an act which offends the sensitivities of an important component of his constituency. Distinguished Senator I am sure you are sufficiently familiar with the constructive contributions which Nigerians have made to economic, social and political lives of Texas especially in the Houston area. Every country has its own share of law breakers. To use the activities of few as an opportunity to cast aspersions on the integrity of a country and its people is not only unfair but also excessively offensive. You yourself made the point that the so-called email scammers have disappeared from the scene. But it is not because they were recruited to work on Obamacare. It is because of the successful efforts of our government working through the Embassy and the international law enforcing agents to curb the activities of these few law breakers. It is not the practice of any Nigerian diplomatic mission to interfere in the domestic affairs of our host countries. But we will not sit back, fold our arms while a politician assaults the integrity of our country and people in the process of appeasing the base instincts of a few misguided elements in his constituency. Distinguished Senator the least we can say is that Nigerians feel offended by you. They demand an apology. Professor Ade Adefuye Ambassador, Head of Mission Embassy of Nigeria Washington DC 2 Likes |

Which part of his statement was false?...... Aren't majority of the Internet scammers Nigerians?..... Will his apologising reduce the number of scammers?...... If your country didn't give itself a bad name, no one will call it a bad name You want an apology, first give the guy proof that Nigerians don't have Internet fraudsters? 2 Likes |

That is my biggest obstacle, the fear of fraud, I din't blame you people most of you are just looking for jobs and don't care how hard it is to create them! 1 Like |
