The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, Thursday declared that the Parliament was ready to amend any portion of the nation’s law to grant any request of appropriations from the Executive Arm of Government to accommodate the demands and end the lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This followed the presentation of the investigative report presented by the House Committee on Education on the floor of the House.

Tambuwal advised the all concerned parties in the strike to reconsider their positions in the interest of the students and the future of education in the country.

The Speaker said that the House would not hesitate to honour any requests from the Executive Arm of government to help meet the demands of the ASUU where necessary.

His Words: “Once again, we call on ASUU and the Federal Government, in this case the Executive Arm of government to please, quickly bring the matter an end. And if there is any need for further appropriations to be made or any law to be amended to meet any of these conditions, the House of Representatives is faithfully ready to expeditious address such requests. Please, we need our students back to their respective schools. I so plead.”

Close your mouth and stop believing what politicians tell you. The so called 100billion has not been disbursed by government. So how on earth should the intellectuals on strike trust the government who has jilted an agreement, followed by a MOU in 2012.

Why should the senate be pretending they don't know of the agreement. The government has made a great mistake, yet it wants to use blackmailing to rubbish the agreement. Why should a sitting senate president have a university in Ghana? The aim of our leaders is to turn our universities to what public primary and secondary school's are today. Is that a good vision for Nigeria?

FG has their fault at this issues. Am not lashing out at ASUU alone. We have more than 60 universities both state and federal university in this country today, where in the part of the world do have that number of university in any country. They keep approving more universities without any plan of taking care of them. All states wants their own university why? Can't we have just 10 solid federal university in this country that will compete with other universities out there.
And concerning the agreement let ASUU give FG some time please and call the strike off while negotiations continue. the lingering strike has start to paint bad image of ASUU. they can always go back on strike if FG refuses to implement their agreement then all Nigerians will know there is no goin back until their demands are ment
