US Senator Apologises To Nigerians Over Insultive Joke (see Copy Of Letter) by Adenugay(m): 8:15pm On Oct 28, 2013

US Senator Ted Cruz has apologized to Nigerians who have demanded that he retracts his controversial joke last week which many of them considered insulting.
In a letter from the Senator to leaders of the Nigerian community in Houston, Texas, where the controversial
comments were made, the Senator said he “regrets any misunderstanding.”
The letter was signed by one of the aides of the Senator, Mr. David Sawyer, the South-East Texas Regional Director in his office.

Cruz is still not owning up to the rubbish he said about Nigeria. On one hand he's saying everyone characterises Nigerians as scammers, while on the other hand he's saying I'm sorry but it is the truth that Nigerians have scammers amongst themselves.

In a nutshell, Cruz is saying we are scammers, sorry but I'm right to call you scammers because it appears on FBI website and everyone knows Nigerians are scammers.

This is not an apology.

Even though this is an equivocal 'apology', 'Nigerian Letter/Scams' is a very common term around the world and not only on Government sites. The truth is even I, a Nigerian have received countless of these emails and still receive them (if you play along for a while you will find out that there's a Nigerian link to most of them).

Stereotype may be shallow but when you hear Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran what comes to mind? If you weren't Nigerian or African what would think/perceive of Nigeria. Forget foreign press, let us judge ourselves.

Sentiments aside, we are all Nigerians and love our dear country but truth is we should change our value system and stop idolizing people with ill gotten wealth maybe then we can 'rebrand' Nigeria.

Ted Cruz's statement isn't any more prevaricative than calling inferior products 'Chinese' because there's some truth about it.

There's still hope for Our dear Nigeria
