Re: About Sap? by laryholms: 3:04pm On Jul 09, 2009
Hi Guys ,

I must say this is an interesting forum which is really enriching!

I am not an SAP Guru like Makos but an experienced ERP/ Business Analyst/CRM Specialist  on other application  platform.
There is indeed high demand for SAP Professionals most expecially where I reside(Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg /France).

What makes SAP a unique ERP solution comes from the singular fact that it reports information in Real time(Hence the name R/3), 3 symbolizing
the three tiers , Unlike other conventional application where you have modules seldomly exchanging information which are historical in nature.

This infact, most company implementing SAP adapts thier business operation to it inother to achieve /maximize its efficiencies and power.
This is refered to as "Business Process Re-engineering",

In reality, I think this application has come to stay at the moment outstriping Microsoft which is still doing good in terms of OS sales, IBM which acquired  Cognos,  ORACLE which is refered to as the best  when it comes to RDBMS  and INFOR which is still struggling to find a foot in the larger market.

Keep the flame burning my Nigerian brothers and all the best in acquiring the needed skills to excel.

One love!

Una dey see wetin dey ontop ma thread? This na wetin Kiwi and markos don dey talk since, now dem don find us reach here and wan come dey train us (No thanks!! we got our very own trainers). OYA MAKE UN JOIN ME SHOUT HOLY GHOSTTTTTTT FIIRREEEE!!!!

Ok but seriously guys we need to move and as fast as we possibly can.

I am an IT professional in the area of Business Process Automation and have longed to get into SAP. I came accross this thread sometime last week while trying to find my left and right in the vast SAP world (sincerely, was beginning to suffer from Information overload and confusion from the vast information available on the SAP site). Mann i couldnt believe finding this sort of thread. We have literally been spoon feed by our very own SAP gurus and i must say its really really rear. We are in an environment where industry successful ppl with vast experience withold these sort of mentoring for fear of being "overtaken" and here we are having it thrown at us for nothing but for our very own good and benefit.

In the past one week, with JUST this thread, i have been able to get a good sense of direction on my SAP career and working towards it.

We all have to team up and get things going, supporting each other when we come accross stubling blocks. Briz , nna,, as i run my own IT business, I am prepared to provide a venue using part of my office space. But i would first have to know the number of ppl interested in showing up(due to space restrictions). Then we can draw up a programme of events for the event, aims and objective.

Man this thread has placed fire on our heads my head, and is just the right sort of mentoring i had been looking for before now as i had been "keeping it for later"

Guys lets all work together to move forward, create an air tight system preventing these ppl coming in to take wot we could most definitley do ourselves.

Looking forward

Less i forget, all i can say to Markos and Kiwi992 and the other helpful contributors to this thread is a big Thank You.

Though it may seem unsuccessful and frustrating to note ignorance reluctance-to-read attitude of some of nairalanders on this thread, your contributions have immensely given a sense of direction to a good number of aspiring SAP consultants (myself included).

As i can see pple like scorpio has started. Please be a bit patient with us all as we forge ahead together!!!

We need you guys around!

@nna

u said

Just as Okeyz has just partly said, it would be an avenue for aspiring SAP consultants to meet, rub minds, share info, and clear SAP misconceptions (if any) which we may come accross in our quest to become consultants. It will not be a weekly thing but as and when the need arises. In addition to it is to help form and maintain a good network between ourselves especially when we start getting into the SAP industry as players, the players could assist the jobless certified consultants in getting in.

NO MONEY INVOLVED - ok! smiley

Hmmnnn the IDES, dont have it still searching. I am sure its out there somewhere waiting for someone to find and pick.

Guys lets know when you get to lay your hands on it
Re: About Sap? by nnaiah: 2:22pm On Jul 27, 2009
@naira-ner

thanx for your prompt reply.

Dont you think we will be replicating another about SAP thread offline worse still having a troop of SAP greenhorns.

At the same time there is the need for networking with SAP consultants in nigeria, why?

First SAP job as a fresh consultant is always a challenge.

Nigeria is always different in implementing global standards,it is always tilted.(sorry i stand to be corrected)

I love nigeria anyway,i dont any other elsewhere.

they have started asking for implementation experience

the truth is , naija companies prefer indians

if you do anything dey go call am xenophobia
Re: About Sap? by markos: 1:17pm On Jul 30, 2009
just keeping a low profile really, just back from hawaii and travelling to Thailand this weekend for a week, so basically enjoying my time off, like i said the Indians are all over the place, fair play to them, they seem to have cornered the SAP market in Nigeria

there are so many opportunities, high salary, high contract rates, that why some will do anything possible to make sure they continue getting all the big SAP roles

well up to you lot to change the staus quo

To: Markos, nnaiah, scorpio or other help

I have a quick question I beg re the SAP market in 9ja (jobs etc)

Are most companies using SAP in 9ja using the ECC 6 (r3) or the Business One suite.
Reason is cus the R3 is very expensive and mostly for very large companies abi and so am thinking maybe most of the SAP jobs in 9ja might be related to the SBO (SAP Business One) suite.
Could you guys advise me which one is bigger in 9ja and also which one has the most jobs.

Thanks and God bless, nice one.

Sege

To : Markos, nnaih, scorpio, Briz and other SAP guys!!!

Hello guys, i beg i get a quick question.

Which SAP suite/software is hot or more common in 9ja. I mean re jobs and what the companies are using. Is it the R3 (ECC 6.0) or the SBO (SAP Business One). I know the R3 is very expensive to implement so i was thinking maybe for the size and cost, nigerian companies would be using the SBO, because its more for small to medium size businesses.

Also, it seems that SAP is pushing the business suite more in the nigerian market, i am not sure tho. Could you guys advise on that, Thanks a lot.

Hello nairalanders, i'm a student of a private university in nigeria studying information technology presently in 300level and i have bin reading evrytin u guys have bin talking about but quite frankly i cant understand most tins. Its obvious i have no knowledge of this SAP thing and i wud like to know what it takes for one to get into it. From what i have read, does it mean u  need work experience or hands-on experience? Or does it mean u cant even think about it as an undergraduate or do u have to prepare urself with other tins like oracle, java and stuff and then wait till u get work experience? Am curious,
Thanks for helping out.

Think i have given my fair share of my quota, its up to every individual to pursue their dreams, sorry not been rude, i dont know much about the Nigerian SAP market, so i cant give more advice in that respect except the Indians are running things in that department and will do anything to ensure the likes of yourself dont get into this lucrative chosen career unless you decide to change this

Every information about SAP could be found on the internet, there is no need asking for help like kids!!! if you are serious abpout an SAP career, all the information you need is already posted in this thread, you have to branch out and create your own career progression

Just remember for every day you spend lazing around here wirthout trying to help yourselves, the Indians have/ are making up to 600-700 dollars a day plus expenses an accomodation for Nigerian SAP contracts!!

hope this helps!!!

It's sometime nice reading about Nigeria, especially when it is a something concrete and intelligent,

30,000 Job Openings for SAP Consultants, SAP Official Says
InformationWeek.com, September 01, 2009 (Online)
An SAP official said Tuesday that 30,000 job openings exist worldwide for SAP consultants to support the needs of the company's 82,000 customers and their 12 million users across the globe. Speaking at an event in Lagos, Nigeria, SAP manager Jaco Van Zyl said the company hopes to begin filling some of those openings with trainees who complete "SAP e-Academy and IT certification courses" managed by a new training and education partner in Nigeria called New Horizons Systems Solutions, according to an article in the Vanguard of Nigeria. Van Zyl also said that the training offered in Nigeria is valid around the world: "It is a global certification: whether somebody gets certified in Lagos, Abuja, Johannesburg, Frankfurt or elsewhere. It is exactly the same exam, same quality." While Nigeria is not generally thought of as a stronghold for SAP expertise, it is equally true that IT offshoring has moved into a number of countries around the world that have only recently established themselves as geographic centers of global IT capabilities. So SAP's extension into Nigeria of its SAP e-Academy makes a great deal of sense, particularly in light of Van Zyl's claim that demand for SAP expertise is currently outpacing supply by 30,000 workers.

enjoy and keep working hard towards your dreams,

Just started a new SÀP specialist role, my third day on the job, should be exciting, its here in stockholm for a UK company but with offices world wide, seems my new role is SD based but it seems they want me to cover other modules like FI MM, some finance as well, i can imagine the work loads will be quite different to my last role, there will be some travelling involved to local sites in Dallas and maybe India, going to Dallas to meet up with the other SAP consultants and brain storm

This role will  certainly be different from my other roles as i will assume a greater responsibility for the SAP landscape in Sweden, also have to take Swedish classes as my swedish is not up to scratch
well this summer, i had a well deserved vacation that took me to Hawaii, Thailand and New york, was off for 2 months and i enjoyed every bit of my time off, now time for the hard work, the outlook on the economy looks promising to say the least, hopefully big corporations will release big budgets for SAP implementations, apparently i hear there are 30000 consultants roles to be filled, well thats good news, SAP is still a closed society of sorts, getting in is ever so difficult but once in and with the right experience could be very rewarding and can take you to places you can imagine

well better get back to work now
