@ Topic,

Yes and No.

Yes if the interviewer wanted to do something nasty or fishy with you instead of conducting the real interview.

No cause an interview does not last forever but only a few minute so just be patient.

It is totally okay to walk out of a job interview with your dignity intact. I have attended a gazillion interviews, home and abroad and some interviewers are just downright condescending and unprofessional. One told me to sing shocked. This was in Nigeria of course and no, i was not auditioning for an opera position. What happened next i will keep to myself but he got to discover that Ms Spoilt has a caustic tongue! angry

there is nothing wrong with walking out of an interview, it just depends, some interviews are a waste of ur time and the folks are jack asses, so walking out is appropriate, just make sure u have a good judgment of the situation b4 doing so.

You can work walk out, if you had an alternative
It is always a good idea to attend all interviews
At least for the experience

Walking out is okay because most times what the advert says is not what you see during the interview

My opinion, i don't think its a good thing to walk out of a job interview. i applied for a job in 2006, i had to go through an intimidating interview and polygraph test as part of the application process. During interview/polygraph i was asked the following:

Ever had sex with same sex
ever had sex with a minor
ever stolen from a grocery/retail store
ever killed anyone
ever thought about killing anyone

Lots of questions that got nothing to do with the job. All u had to do was answer yes or no to their questions. If i still had my naija mentality i would have probably walked out of the interview right after the first question was asked. The best part of it was 6 months after the interview and polygraph i got the job.

On the other side, i would definately walk out if i was accused of any incriminating act or the interviewee slapped the shhiitt out of me during the interview. There can be lots of good reasons to walk out, it all depends.

I like that idea working out on the job. Not only that you can tell the interviewer wether a man or woman to take the job and shove it. I plan to do that some time.

Walking out of an interview?Hell no!A friend of mine did it once.He went 4 another interview in another company some months later and met one of d men who had interviewed him previously amongst d interview panel.
d man wisphered something to the chief interviewer and my friend was politely excused without been interviewed.Remember it's a very small world and everything we do has repercussions.

Walking out depends on what you've encountered with the interviewer. If you really got a mess i think walking out is the best option for you.

of course you can walk out of an interview, is it ok? hell yeah if you are insulted or treated like crap , which some interviewers do. Just like they have a right to choose who they want to hire you too have a right to decide if the job is worthy of you. Just as long as you have weighted the good and bad and know its the right thing to do. I have never walked out of an interview myself but have come close though. The interviewer was so shit, i felt i should be sitting in her place, but yeh there you go , nothing wrong with knowing your worth

pretty sad that people hastily answer questions,
no substance,
wont you like to know what circumstance made him/her walk out?!
before you go on with the sarcasm on garri, being yar aduas child, and all that
please bear in mind that as you have silly interview candidates you could also have silly interviewers who are out to do nothing but waste people time,
walking out of an interview would definately not be proper in an idle interview situation.but what about a contrary situation?
they give you clear bull shit and you sit there and eat it?
well done o.

HELL YES of course you can
Firstly any interview/aptitude test in which your your health or even life will be in jeopardy like that of last weekends Nigeria immigrations recruitment aptitude test, should be walked out of
Those that walked out of that ill-fated test are now living to fight another day

Secondly any interview/test during which you are about to be harrased, especially sexually is not worth it
Walk out of it FAST

hi,

it is not advisable to walk out.
Re: Is It Okay To Walk Out Of A Job Interview? by Nobody: 9:44am On Jul 17, 2008
the moment you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you bargained for.

based on your qualifications, and personal standards, you should have an idea as to whether you will be interested in working in a place within 10 minutes of entering.

it is a waste of productive time, both on your part and on the part of the interviewer if you keep up with a interview that is obviously going nowhere.

i have been there before - ie i've checked out venues beforehand and decided - hell no!
Re: Is It Okay To Walk Out Of A Job Interview? by olabello(m): 11:22am On Jul 17, 2008
If I were to ask you what you'd do if you were in an interview and knew, absolutely knew, that the job was not for you, what would you say? Most job seekers would say, "Finish the interview." But why would you continue when you know you don't want the job? Would it stun you to know you could leave?

If you know you don't want to travel, and suddenly you learn a fact not specified in the ad: the job involves more travel than is acceptable to you, there's no reason to continue. If your interviewer is rude or patronizing and this is the person to whom you'd be reporting, why submit yourself to it any further?

One person I know was conducting her own job search. Having passed the screening interview, she was to meet with all four of the company's principles in the same afternoon. The first person was out of town. The second one was rude and insulting. The third one made her wait. She actually stayed to interview with the fourth! The time to leave was somewhere during - or certainly after - meeting with the second person, the one who was insulting. Why they brought her back for these interviews is another subject entirely.

You can say almost anything, as long as you say it in a calm, confident manner with a smile on your face. People get into interviews and worry about whether they'll pass muster when they should be, concurrently, interviewing the company to see if it's the kind of place they want to be. And even when red flags pop up all over the place, they still sit pretty, answering questions, hoping for the job.

You need to do your homework before you start your search. You need to know what's important, what's not, and where you're willing to be flexible. Aside from helping you to focus on what you're looking for, it assists you in recognizing what you're not looking for.

So if halfway through the interview, you learn it's not, then leave. Stand up, smile, and politely say, "Thank you very much for bringing me in, but I don't feel that we're really going to benefit each other. I appreciate your taking the time to see me, and I'm sure you'll find someone who is just perfect for your company. "

When do you do this? When you learn the environment is not what you want. For instance, you thrive on challenge and learning new information, and you'll be doing repetitive tasks. You want to be trusted to work at your own pace, but you find out that's it's an intensely competitive environment. You don't mind working with numbers as long as it's not the majority of the responsibilities, and you discover numbers are 80% of the job.

When a definite no, rears its head why waste everyone's time? Especially yours? When you're in the middle of a phone interview, and the interviewer continually puts you on hold or calls you back to take a call, it's time to cut and run. "But it's a good position," you say. Maybe so. But what about your boss? If he's like that on the interview, how accessible will he be when you work there? When he calls you into his office to discuss your poor performance, is it your problem or his that he was never available to answer your questions?

Know what you want. Know how to ask questions to find out if it's there or not. Learn how to read the signals and understand what's really going on below the surface. And learn how to walk away if you find something present that you know won't contribute to your happiness and your perfect job. Finding that takes focus. Finishing an interview that's going nowhere isn't focus. It's a waste of your time.

To your success!!!

Well, methinks its perfectly safe to walk out wen u decide its no use continuing the intereview.most times, few minites in the premises of the coy will decide for u.but politely excusing urself is key, leaving rudely or causing a brouhaha marks u.when u are marked, someone somewhere will recognise u and prolly damage your chances anywhere else.
Re: Is It Okay To Walk Out Of A Job Interview? by Urchie(f): 10:50pm On Jul 18, 2008
walking out on the interview? Oh no.
Simply tooooo bad!

Its wise to keep calm and hold on till the close of the interview.
Whatever they said to u not withstanding. Who know it could be the training u need for the higher job u are aspiring for.
As a matter of fact for courtsy sake its very wrong, an adult should also treat that as such
