It's Haram.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Book 56 Hadith Number 674 Narrated Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman:That he heard Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan (talking) on the pulpit in the year when he performed the Hajj.
He took a tuft of hair that was in the hand of an orderly and said, "O people of Medina! Where are your learned men? I heard the Prophet forbidding such a thing as this (i.e. false hair) and he used to say,The Israelis were destroyed when their ladies practiced this habit (of using false hair to lengthen their locks).

Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 7,Hadith Number 133:Narrated 'Aisha - An Ansari woman gave her daughter in marriage and the hair of the latter started falling out.The Ansari women came to the Prophet and mentioned that to him and said, Her (my daughter's) husband suggested that I should let her wear false hair."
The Prophet said, "No, (don't do that) for Allah sends His curses upon such ladies who lengthen their hair artificially.

Sahih Muslim,Narrated Jabir ibn Adullah Allah's Apostle reprimanded that a woman should add anything to her head (in the form of artificial hair)
.It's forbidden to use any false hair and that includes weavons and wigs.

@ lanrexlan, tnx so much. But what I read on google was, only human hair is haram though not all scholars are in support of it.
Also, does it now mean that even wool is haram?

Do women use wool as attachments? I know about using wool in textile industries.Anything used maybe from animals or artificially gotten which lengthens the hair is forbidden. But those small black threads used by some women to make their hair aren't forbidden and Allah knows best.

I know it's best to avoid any form of attachments due to its ambiguities but what is this 'small black threads' so that I can recommend it(if @ all i have to) to my friends who find it difficult going with natural hair?

**scratching my head**.How will I describe it self? They are small threads used by women that have a low cut hair.It doesn't lengthens the hair, just for binding sha.If I have the pics I will post it Insha Allah. Wa Iyyakum

I mean wools that are used for knitting. When u use it, it also lengthens the hair. So will like to know if it's allowed.

Anything that increases the length of one's natural hair is not allowed.

Salam, I know the wool you are talking about.

And I have read two different views about it
1. The first views says it's ok, since it is not hair that's been used.
2. The second view says anything used as an ATTACHMENT to the hair is not allowed.

it is a trite principle of islamic law that use of attachment is haram...outrightly. on the issue of the knitting wool for hair making, i av a personal 'ummu nusaybatic' view. i.e it has been said that we should leave what is not clear for what is clear. And in this case what is clear is outright abstenance from attaching.

however the scholarly view is that if the use of wool wont extend beyond the user's hair, den it is allowed. that means it is ok to use wool if it stops exactly where the real hair stops

Allahu 'alam
