Nigeria Police And A Nairalander (help) by richgang(m): 12:14am On Nov 01, 2013
Hello fellow Nairalanders, i am Jason, i reside in Benin, i am 22 years old , my problem started few months back, April to be precise. When i was 20 years old i bought my first Toyota highlander car which i was using , until April 4th this year were i decided to buy a new car range rover spot for my 22 years birthday celebration , ever since i bought the car i have been having problems with the Nigeria police in Benin, when i drive pass any busy road in Benin, i am always stopped by the police and asked to park my car, demanding for my particulars which i do give to them, after seeing that my particulars are complete they ask me how i got money to buy such a big car, i always show them my complimentary card which shows i am the C.E.O of my boutique in GRA, yet i am told by the police that they are not convinced that i owned the boutique and that a boutique cant fetch me so much money to buy such a car, then i am ask to follow them to the station, after me vibrating and shouting, making calls to no avail i still have to pay 30,000 for my release, this have been going on since April , after seeking solutions from close friends , they told me i shouldn't have bought this kind of attention seeking car, others said i should sell the car, but i find its very disturbing , were i will buy a car of my choice yet i cant drive it and have peace of mind because of fear of the police , so please fellow nairalanders i have seen how you guys solve other fellow nairalanders problems, and i will be please if i could get a reasonable answers from you guys, should i sell the car, why are the police always after me, so confuse , please i need help.....

My dear the police is one problem, soon kidnappers and robbers will begin their ultimate chase. You can sell it to avoid trouble. If you lived in Abuja commonly known as the rich 'man's city', then you'll have less problems, not in Benin.

1.If u are really legit and rich as u want us to believe, then get a lawyer. each time u are accosted by the police and they claim they are not satisfied with ur source of wealth, call ur lawyer let him talk some sense into them and threaten them with lawsuit for breaching his client's fundamental rights entrenched in the constitution. U will be amazed at How quickly u will be released and they won't ever arrest u in that area again.... Like they say, "Don't just get mad,get a lawyer. "
2. Or better still get a police escort/orderly that will follow u around town each time u are driving(don't tell me it's expensive o,Abi no be u be big boy ni?)

Funny thread.

The Nigerian police force needs deliverance, I swear.
Bro,meet a lawyer and don't let anyone trample on your rights, police or not.

Selling it or getting a lawyer as suggested. Either ways, it's all good. You MIGHT be subject to frequent stops anyway if still in use.

@OP,it sounds strange dat a sucessful legitimate biznessman of ur standing doest not hav a lawyer 4 all purposes;even when u hav been spending at d police to "bail" urself for being a sucessful Nigerian. Sory to say, but it seems 2 me u hav some skeleton in ur cupboard.

Had the NPF, like the country generally, not being corrupt, you should be chilling in a cell somewhere until you prove the REAL source of your money.

Godhavemercy.

You and the NPF clearly know the source of your income aint legit . They are cutting you some slack by taking 30k from you anytime you drive by. Be grateful to them

Lol...

Benin boys no get another work pass YAHOO naw... grin

Even if you bought the cars from the money you realized from your boutique business, how did you get the money for the business?
Re: Nigeria Police And A Nairalander (help) by Obinnau(m): 11:11am On Nov 01, 2013
I can't believe that most people see something wrong in owning a boutique and buying a RR sport. pls cut the guy some slack. do you know his family background? pls op as someone suggested, get a lawyer. and each time you are stopped call him. but if you know your money is not legit, pls sell the car. you can buy other cars that can beat the RR sport hands down without raising heads.

Family background indeed. If he came from wealthy family,he would have said so. Btw he clearly stated that he made his money from his boutique business so i wonder why you are trying to make excuses for him.

I'm sure Dangote,Otedollars and co kids were cruising in bigger cars when they were less than his age. Nobody had to stop or harass them because they are known to be enjoying their inheritance. Long story short - If the OP came from a wealthy background,he won't be here seeking for help, one phone call to daddy/mommy is all he needs. smiley
