A mobile police constable has been beaten to death for driving against traffic.

The police constable, identified as Ibrahim Lorhemo, 38, until his untimely death, was attached to Mobile Police Force (MOPOL 20) Oduduwa, Ikeja.

At the time of the attack, he was said to be in the same vehicle with another police constable, Mathias Akpaniwu, who is attached to Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

P.M.News investigation revealed that the policemen were allegedly beaten to a state of coma and inflicted with severe injuries for driving against the traffic at Anthony Bus Stop axis of Ikorodu road, by Fatai Ayinole, and some commercial motorcyclist (Okada riders).

The constables were rushed to a nearby hospital by sympathizers at the scene of the incident but Lorhemo died at the hospital a few minutes later, before he could be treated.

The other policeman has since been treated and discharged from the hospital. The remains of Lorhemo have been deposited at the Gbagada General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

Scores of Okada riders who spoke with P.M.News condemned the action of their colleagues, but said that the attack on the cops was to let them know that nobody was above the law, and that their members had also been brutalised for riding against the traffic several times.

At the MOPOL 20, Ikeja, the deceased’s colleagues were too sad to speak on the death of the man they called gallant officer who was always willing to respond to distress calls. The incident is being investigated by detectives at the State CID Panti, Yaba.
