Sickle Cell Patients: Let's Share Our Wonderful Experience by Nifemicutie(f): 8:01pm On Nov 10, 2013 |
I am Nifemi a sickle cell anemia patient. My parents said they discovered it when I was only eight months old and trust me, since then, it has not been so easy at all. Always visiting the hospital when in crisis and I was restricted from eating foods containing iron such as snail, okro and ogbono. I am also restricted from drinking cold water (but I do sometimes and I pity myself), from doing strenuous work and also not taking any other blood tonic apart from Astymin which contains zero iron. Please hop in and share your experience. Let's make it lively. |

Sickle cell herbal remedy is real and efficacy, all you need to know is to be informed and then you have your success story too. Email me sajolive6@gmail.com There is some medical controversy over whether the human body can naturally regrow cartilage. The general consensus is that adults cannot regenerate cartilage, but it may be possible for children and teenagers who are still growing to do so at a slow rate. When the human body reaches its adult stage, cartilage has little to no blood supply, which greatly limits the body's ability to repair or regrow it. Cartilage repair is showing new promise with recent medical research. The primary approach involves the implantation of a micro-scaffold made of natural materials into cartilage joint regions. This scaffold acts as a stimulant for cartilage cell growth, and it is absorbed by the body as the cells replace its structure. Similar research is ongoing with hydrogels engineered at the nanotechnology level, or at sizes of a billionth of a meter. These are bioactive materials that assemble into a fibrous matrix that joint cells can attach to and grow upon. The materials used are designed to bind to growth factors for cartilage regeneration in the body as well, and stem cells located in nearby bone marrow stimulate collagen production that leads to new cartilage. Such research into treating cartilage problems, though very promising, is still in the animal testing phase and a few years away from human trials. In biology, regeneration is the process of renewal, restoration, and growth that makes genomes, cells, organs, organisms, and ecosystems resilient to natural fluctuations or events that cause disturbance or damage. Every species is capable of regeneration, from bacteria to humans.[1][2] Regeneration can either be complete[3] where the new tissue is the same as the lost tissue,[3] or incomplete[4] where after the necrotic tissue comes fibrosis.[4] At its most elementary level, regeneration is mediated by the molecular processes of DNA synthesis.[5][6] Regeneration in biology, however, mainly refers to the morphogenic processes that characterize the phenotypic plasticity of traits allowing multi-cellular organisms to repair and maintain the integrity of their physiological and morphological states. Above the genetic level, regeneration is fundamentally regulated by asexual cellular processes.[7] Regeneration is different from reproduction. For example, hydra perform regeneration but reproduce by the method of budding. The hydra and the planarian flatworm have long served as model organisms for their highly adaptive regenerative capabilities.[8] Once wounded, their cells become activated and start to remodel tissues and organs back to the pre-existing state.[9] The Caudata ("urodeles"; salamanders and newts), an order of tailed amphibians, is possibly the most adept vertebrate group at regeneration, given their capability of regenerating limbs, tails, jaws, eyes and a variety of internal structures.[1] The regeneration of organs is a common and widespread adaptive capability among metazoan creatures.[8] In a related context, some animals are able to reproduce asexually through fragmentation, budding, or fission.[7] A planarian parent, for example, will constrict, split in the middle, and each half generates a new end to form two clones of the original.[10] Echinoderms (such as the starfish), crayfish, many reptiles, and amphibians exhibit remarkable examples of tissue regeneration. The case of autotomy, for example, serves as a defensive function as the animal detaches a limb or tail to avoid capture. After the limb or tail has been autotomized, cells move into action and tissues regenerate.[11][12][13] Ecosystems are regenerative as well. Following a disturbance, such as a fire or pest outbreak in a forest, pioneering species will occupy, compete for space, and establish themselves in the newly opened habitat. The new growth of seedlings and community assembly process is known as regeneration in ecology |

Dear Nifemi..ur a sickler doesn't in anyway mean its the end of the world..sicklers are really beautiful people who tend to answer God's call earlier than others(not in all cases though). I just advice that you keep to your doctor's instruction and take very good care of yourself..I recently lost a brother who was ss as well..he died at age 29.Twas quite painful for the family but we had no choice..if he had taken care of himself properly things would have been better. Take good care of yourself Nifemi, avoid getting addictive to pain killers especially pentazocine and be super close to your God..cheers! |

I hate it when People lie saying been a stickler doesn't mean the end of the world. I believe your brother didn't share his experience with you. Are u aware of the stigmatization you face in public Do you know how it feels to be in crisis? Do you know what it means to always look at yourself in the mirror asking yourself why you are a sickler Do you know what it means to have pains in your bone marrow?? I believe you clearly don't know all this. So please stop this saying of yours because you don't have an idea of the pains. *****works out of thread. angrily****** 4 Likes 1 Share |

@Ymodulus,you sound really pained..no insults tho but you reek of negativity. Who says I have no idea what my brother went through.the problem with most sicklers is that they never get to believe that they are sicklers. My brother chose that path and he is 6 ft down today. If only you could get positive and know that being a sickler isn't in no way the end of the world the better for you..ave got friends that are sicklers and they don't overstep their boundaries neither do they think negative of themselves..they just live their lives anytime their creator comes they'll answer..you have no idea what your negativity might be doing to your family..change for the better...besides who gives a damn what people say or think about you because you are a sickler..you should never ever let what people say get to you..its your life, live it. 4 Likes 1 Share |

@op,u need to start thinking positively. Stop looking down on yourself, rather how to live a fulfilled life. My frd is also having the some problem, but one would hardly know except he tells you. He always look cheerful and happy all the time. Told me the last time he got admitted was some years back at LUTH and ever since then he has been living a wonderful life. Goes for check-up once in a month. Always take his medication. Takes lots of fruits. Takes lots of fluid(water most especially). Avoid mosquito bites, cause this can trigger the crisis.(always take anti-malaria drugs). Avoid anything stressful @ work, home, even thrusting hard during s*x could cause crisis. Avoid anything chill or cool. May God be with you and protect you.Amen |

I thinks this might help....Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria is a cool place. They've got labs and offer clinical services there too. You can run tests, treat leg ulcer, and get genetic advice from them. Check out the facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/sicklecellfoundation/ |
