Ayo Oritsejafor’s church was 26 on Sunday. President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said Nigeria would have disintegrated but for the prayers of the church and other religious bodies. The President was speaking at the 2013 Jubilee Word Festival and 26th anniversary of the Word of Live Bible Church (WLBC) in Warri, Delta State, hosted by the church founder and President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ayo Oritsejafor. Reading the first Bible lesson from Psalm 106, Mr. Jonathan declared that “but for the prayers of the church, this country would probably have gone into oblivion”. He urged Nigerians not to relent in their prayers adding that prayers have helped to strengthened the unity of the country. He also noted that nation building is a task for all citizens. Mr. Jonathan said the government was doing all it could to address the security situation in the country, adding that “this terrorism will end in Nigeria and God’s everlasting superior powers will prevail and overcome”. Reiterating that there would be no compensation for victims of Boko Haram insurgency, the President assured Nigerians that government would work out how the victims could be adequately assisted. Earlier, Mr. Oritsejafor commended the President for setting up the committee on National Conference adding that the conference would make the nation stronger and more united. While commending the security agencies in their efforts to tackle the insecurity in the country, the cleric said that more intelligence gathering should be done by the agencies. Mr. Oritsejafor asked the federal government to provide adequate assistance to victims of the Boko Haram insurgency if there would be no compensation for them. He said the victims have gone through agonising experiences having lost family and property in the Boko Haram attacks. He urged the government to set up a Boko Haram committee to ensure adequate assistance to the victims, and expressed hope that the security challenge in the country would soon be over. The cleric also appealed to religious leaders to preach peace, religious tolerance, and hope for a better Nigeria. The Jubilee Word Festival with the theme, ‘Recover All’, also marks the 26th anniversary of the Church, as well as Mr. Oritsejafor’s birthday. Prayers were offered for the progress and unity of Nigeria by christian leaders present at the event. Apart from Mr. Jonathan, three state governors were in attendance at the program. They are Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Jonah Jang (Plateau), and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta)
