Get good teachers, improve the infrastructure of the schools, that's how to help the students. WTF is banning? Are you paying their fees? |

This is a reasonable move, however LASG should also ensure that the minions milling about in various roles in the Lagos State Govermnent at Ward/LGA and State Levels are also banned, Local Government Chairmen and Ward Councillors who can only communicate in pigin and yoruba should be banned as well.. we cannot allow such crass, base and illiterate buffoons control the works of Lagos. |

God bless u! theoctopus: What is so stup1d about this position is that they dont even know how backward it sounds. In 2013, to think that education is still all about getting 60% is so sad! Please they should send some people to Japan and learn how a modern education system should run. It is about training and preparing kids for their future, not awarding scores and grading students. So daft, this LASG! |

JECBOSS: In as much as I understand what the Lagos state govt. is trying to convey, I think Nairaland should replicate this. I'm of the opinion that poor command of English language as usually observed on Nairaland is symptomatic of our falling standards in education. Does speaking correct English tells how educated you are? I doubt that. I speak Spanish, French, Portuguese and English. I know my English may not be as sound as yours but then, it still doesn't make you better than me in any way. So please stop talking trash. 1 Like |

Talking about Banning unintelligent students, is like saying sick people shouldn't go to the hospital for treatment. GROW UP NAIJA! |

I think the title of the topic is very misleading and I hope it wasn't done intentionally. I also doubt that many people here read the article or even glanced through it. It is NORMAL for educational facilities to have passing criteria. Let's be serious here. Most of you went to one type of school or another and you know that if you did not pass with a C or 50%, you were not promoted. You had to repeat the class or whatever. The summary of this article is that teachers should not encourage passing students that don't meet the criteria. All those parents that like to go and beg teachers etc need to stop. If you don't meet the criteria, you cannot be promoted. We all want a better system yet we criticize the govt when they try to do the right thing. How can a student who doesn't pass the assessment test move on to the next level? Then when these kids graduate, you insult them and call them dullards. If you have not understood A, why should I promote you to go and learn B? How does that work. I swear Nigeria will remain the way it is and it will not be on the leaders but the citizens. |

Wiz-Prince: Did you read the article?? I doubt it cause if you did, you would think otherwise. Whoever put this on the FP should take some blame as well. |

This is a welcome development. My question? What will be the fate of these "unintelligent" pupils? I think while the govenment is trying to have a short cut to having brilliant pupils/ students in its school, there should be provision for the so called "unintelligent'' pupils/ students too. The government could come up with the idea of modern schools, and technical schools that would take in these children and with time they will be "intelligent'' and ready to do well in higher institutions. A lot of us were termed unintelligent in our days in the lower schools and today we are doing well. I am an example and today, i hold a Masters degree with many certifications and most importantly Iam contributing positively to my society. I think government needs to look at this plan/ policy wholistically. the fact that Iam ''unintelligent'' today does not mean that I will be ''unintelligent'' for ever. Read the story of Ben Carson (one of the most recognised Neuro surgeons in the world) for guidance. Thank you |

Dat's a backward step to take by d state govnt coz sm pupils just need sm motivations in order 4 dem to catch up wt their mates , so banning dem will nt be of help to d situation n again the teachers shld be monitored as well 4 their skill n quality teaching...... |

wales4real: This is grossly wrong. No child is uninteligent. That word is so offensive. We all have the right to be educated. Vocational studies should be made lucrative by our govt. This is to cater for those who lacked proper early education. Count yourself lucky if u have parents that could afford u proper early education. Some people out there u call 'unintelligent' are better than you but did not have that grace. Peace. The best comment on this THREAD...my bro GOD BLĀ£$$ ur undastandin/reasonin |

Serious, in my candid opinion i don't think a student under any circumstances should be denied of his/her fundamental human needs, i think as a government they also have some basic responsibilities to perform which in my view they have failed. As a member of MDGs part of the eight millennium gaols is to achieve universal primary education..... Pls remember educations is a key to development |

obayaya: misplaced priority!!! what is the essence of school if not to turn the unintelligent students to intelligent or average students. I don't want you to have a feeling you're unlucky cos I picked out your comment of all the hundreds before you and made it a template for my reply.... Yes, there's something like unintelligent and it's used for people who are not intelligent. The op probably created the thread with mischief as his sole purpose. Putting up a pass mark for a pupil is both right morally and educationally.....it stirs the student to read more. The decadent in the educational sector is not a source of concern to many and it's when policies that will encourage the student to read more comes up that the so called retro progressive people now starts comparing Nigeria to China and the USA and even Ghana. We all know Nigeria is still a long way off and while the development might not follow that of China or Korea......Lagos is the only state that things seems to be moving at least and the best people do with any progressive information is to compare it to the country with the best standard |
