HiTech Expatriate Staff Murdered In Lagos by Omooba77: 10:28am On Nov 13, 2013
The police in Lagos have commenced investigation into the gruesome murder of a South African, Michael Peter, who was killed in the Ijegun, Ikotun area of the state.
It was learnt that Peter, a construction engineer with HiTech Construction Company, was murdered in his home on Adesena Close.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim, who lived in a two-storey building with other expatriates working at the company, was dismembered by his assailants.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, a domestic employee told him that the incident was still a shock to the residents of the building.
She said, “HiTech construction yard is on the next street and six of the expatriates, who are all white men, live here. There are six flats in the building.
“Last week Monday, around 2am, about eight men cut the barb wire on the fence and jumped into the compound. They tied up the two security guards on duty and marched down to Peter’s flat.
“On getting to Peter’s flat, they used cutlasses and knives to cut him. They cut his hands and legs as if they were torturing him for information or something.
“His flat was stained with his blood, the whole house was scattered.”
When asked why the remaining occupants of the building did not call the police as the attack on the victim was going on, the source said, “A big generator was on so they probably did not hear anything.
“Also, the assailants did not fire any shot. They used machetes and knives, so there was no noise coming from Peter’s flat.”
When our correspondent visited HiTech construction yard on Isheri-Ijegun Road, some employees of the company were seen talking about the incident.
When our correspondent sought the comment of the firm, none of the employees was willing to speak on the issue.
One of them, who, however, spoke off the record, described Peter’s murder as a great loss to the company.
He said the matter was under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
“Mike (Peter) was a very nice man and hardworking too. He had worked with the company before and left, but he came back again this year.
“He was in charge of the road construction from Ijegun Road to Jakande Estate gate. We don’t know who would have wanted him killed but we are cooperating with the police.”
Our correspokdent, who visited the SCID, learnt that the two security guards, who were on duty when Peter was killed, had been arrested.
It was also learnt that the other expatriates in the building had been relocated to Victoria Island.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said the police were working on some theories, adding that the assailants would be arrested and brought to book.
