Touchscreens have spread through the smartphone market like wildfire since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 and one of its chief victims has been physical keyboards. Though the Motorola Droid series has stood resilient and continued improving its physical keyboard, most phones have done away with buttons in favor of thinness and weight. Still, though the keyboard is under attack, there are still a few shining examples of good QWERTY phones out there. Below are our favorites.

The Photon Q is a perfect phone for anyone who wants a slide-out keyboard. For mobile typing, it doesn't get better than this.

The Droid 3 is a definitive step up from previous slide-out Droids. The 4-inch screen is appreciated and we think the keyboard is pretty much best-in-class.

6, LG Mach

The LG Mach's keyboard does not match the Motorola Photon Q ($200), and it's plastic construction and low-res screen do not impress, but LG's Android user interface is speedy. If saving $100 is important to you, the Mach may be a better choice, but aside from the keyboard, there are few compelling reasons to choose it over other Sprint phones, including LG's own Optimus G ($200) or the HTC EVO 4G LTE (also $100).

7, BlackBerry Torch 9810

The real downside to the Torch 9810 is the already-outdated BlackBerry OS 7, and the near-complete lack of quality apps available through App World.

HP is brave to try something new, and we applaud the company’s courage, but the Veer is not a phone for everybody.
