Adaobi12: Teaching is a nice job. After my SSCE. i wrote my first jamb, i couldn't secure admission due to wrong subject combination. After staying at home 4 a whole year, idle, i was fustratd cos most of my mates have all gotten admission. One day,a friend of mine, told me that there is a school in need of a minder,if am interested, that the pay is 10k per month. I was reluctant at 1st. Bt after some serious think i accepted the offer. I worked as a minder 4 a term, the principal noticed how i talk,my gøod command of english, and how i help out the senior students in there assignments, she promoted me to the post of a basic 2 teacher. With a higher pay. Am enjoying my job now. I sat for jamb dis yr,i entered english education as my most prefered choice of course. My friends made jest of me for that, but am nt moved bcus am enjoying the teaching job,and will want to build a career in it.

I strongly agree dt teaching job is nt only hot cake bt education sector is more lucrative now. I am smone who loved to be a chattered accountant right frm d secondary school, bt accidentally found myself in education field. Initially, I wasn't happy wt d course after spending long years in college of education nd university. But now, I thank God for directing my steps towards there, education sector have exposed me to knw every part of d country wt special allowance apart from my salary, help me to develop myself faster, to pursue my Masters' degree as well as Ph.D., teaching and learning is an ongoing process in education.

Errors

1. Your sentence:"When I gained admission in 2009, I didin't really like it. I wanted 'pure' English, not under Education".

It is not I didin't .... it is "I didn't"

2. Your sentence:"I went to work today, but now I'm through for the day".

This is a very simple rule in English Language. Use of "and" and "but". The first one is a conjunction for two positive statements or negative statements, while "but" is a conjunction use for one positive statement and negative statement. In your case "and" is the appropriate word.

3. Your sentence:" When I read my hand-outs now, I see everything in 3D, HD and even ZD!"

This is also a conjunction problem (I guess you need to improve or read up about joining your statement). Better write: "Reading my hand -out now, I see everything in 3D . . ." OR just removed the "comma" and reconstruct the phrase into a complete statement.

P.S. Meanwhile, It is a good one from you. I rate you 80% (Oops! Did you say you studied English? If yes . . . Rate=20%)

Congrats!

The first is a typo. The others, I posted in a hurry 'cos I want to go to the bank. When I'm relaxed, I write better. Thanks for your correction, anyway. We live to learn.

@Chalie193

I beg, for my own learning, explain point 3 more clearly, especially how the commas should come.
I also do not understand the 'removed' in that sentence, is it supposed to be 'remove'?

Pls do not add to it, if u dnt hav a job, have patience and continue to search for one, leave edcuation alone for those who hav d passion + academic/professional requirement. If U can't keep up with the competition, pls kill them. I'm sure you never chose education as ur first choice. And about 75 percent of the present teachers never had a BEd.
So what's ur stress ?

I was a teacher for 17 months, teachers aren't well paid that much (except few private schools and government schools), most complement their pay with extra (private) lessons. I enjoyed it though, I discovered my love for children

You are right bro, my wife teaches the kindergartens in one these schools, and her take home pay is 110k per month, you can imagine how much the grade teachers are being paid. I also want to point here that most of these schools require minimum of Bsc/PGD of which one of them must be in education to qualify even as a kindergarten teacher.

Trachea: I am not surprised at the kind of response this thread has generated( so little). It only points to the kind of attitude nigerians show towards teaching. Everybody has this pipe dream of working in an oil coy or bank or multinational. I work in an international school and i must tell you that the op is not exaggerating. My take home is over 200k monthly and i have accomodation. some of my colleagues earn as much as 300-400k. A friend of mine just got a job as a vice principal for 750k in a new school. So instead of wasting away pounding the streets of lagos or ph, its better to start early and make something of yourself. @OP can we contact?
pls help me cos i ve passion 4 teaching bt i dnt knw where and how to apply in any sch. Am a graduate of banking and taxation frm an international university, i jst finish nysb bt the truth is i want to leave home and start anytin elsewhere far away frm home, hw much the sch wil pay is nt the problem cos am comfortable on my own i jst want to follow my dreams nd my passion is teaching. I cn send u my cv if u want.

Teaching has been a very lively profession for me...I started teaching after my secondary school education,@1st I was looking for an industrial job but none came by,then i opted for the teaching job available in a school close to my house. I must say the teaching job pays .Even as the the strike is on I still teach for the mean time.
