My good youths of Anambra,
I know by now you must have made up your mind on whom to vote for come 16th to represent you for 4 years as governor; with this comes a huge responsibility. Truth is, if we vote well, we can afford to smile and be proud of making the right choice, but if we don’t, we will remain the same for 4 years.
Hold on my Brothers and Sisters, it is imperative that we understand the consequences of our actions even before thinking of voting for anyone.
They have promised you heaven and earth, schools, hospitals, appointments etc, given you gifts or money, influenced your friends/family, maybe attend the same church with you or may even come from your village but do well to compare the present worth of their favor, gifts, money which may not last more than a month to the 4 years of visionless, clueless, static governance **hell**. According to Otto Von Bismarck;” People never lie so much as after a hunt, during a war or before an election”.
As youths, this is the time we put sentiments aside to vote for the better man that has our interest at heart not his political party, quality not quantity. ‘The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers’ –Ralph Nader. We can make a better choice only if we can vote wisely, knowing that for each vote we cast, we decide our future.
Before you vote, meditate on our present challenges which is no news to you and I, the insecurity/assassinations, kidnappings, unemployment, power supply, very poor health care, poor education standards, environmental pollutions, corruption, bad roads, devalued economy and even common pipe borne water is still a promise in 2013 after 14 years of democracy.
Lastly, as you consider snatching that ballot box or using those weapons they gave you and risking going to jail to say the least, remember that their wives and children are somewhere “safe” in an air-conditioned room, drinking with friends, dancing ‘Skel-ewu’ and watching proceedings on National TV, waiting for the results. If you think they don’t have a family, wait till the result is announced, that’s always when the First lady and Governor’s children emerge.
Thank you and Vote Well.
Yours sincerely,
Fem Eluaka.
