I think this Nigerian team has what it takes to win the world cup despite the fact that they're not the best team in the world or even one of the top ten teams but football is not won by records but by current form and the Nigerian team have been consistent in recent times and i don't see them being embarrassed in Brazil. |

As an ardent follower of the beautiful game, it takes more than just luck to win world cup. World cup is neither champions' league nor nations cup where luck assisted Chelsea (2012), Liverpool (2005), Greece (Euro 2004) Zambia (AFCON2012) prevailed. Every winner of the world cup is always the best team. Nigeria still has much work to do to attain that status. |
Re: Do You See Nigeria Winning The World Cup? by eleffizi: 11:49am On Nov 17, 2013 |
Can Nigeria win the World Cup? IMO, Yes, but the difficulties ahead are high. Here are the reasons: 1. They have to play many friendlies to understand the strengths of top-quality teams. This will enable the players to understand what they are up against. 2. Keshi has a lot of understudying, and strategising to do, regarding potential opponents he will meet in the World Cup. Big teams like Spain, Argentina,Germany, Brazil, Holland, Italy, and England will not fall by the way side just like that. You have to study their playing pattern, understand their biggest and most dangerous players, understand their weaknesses which may not be easily discernible, understand the type of game you have to play to accentuate their weaknesses so as to beat them. 3. Can the NFF remain faithfully supportive to the team concerning regular bonuses? This is a big issue because money issues are serious among men. 4. Can our attackers capitalise on small mistakes to score goals? Beyond the group stages of the World Cup, only GOALS matter. So the SE has to sharpen skills concerning taking set-pieces(freekicks, throw-ins, corner kicks and penalties), taking advantage of slippery defending to score goals. 5. The SE have to rely on Divine Providence to push events in their favour. That can push them as far as the WC final if they do their homework VERY well. However, I repeat : THE STAKES ARE HIGH! I know what the Black Stars went through in SA 2010 to get to the q-final. Even then it was thwarted by a corrupt,show-stopping foul from Suarez. Unfortunately the Black Stars could not capitalise on it. |

canalily: imagine spain never won it for years in foothball! But one day in that year they conquer the world and made history! YES ! If our boys are determined with one heart, we can over make the same history! ! ! Up Eagles!! Chai, see comparison! Spain don suffer, 2008 - 2010 Spanish players played for the 2 best teams in the world then and played like a team. Don't compare them to these benchwarmers in their various clubs. |

@pazienza, gotcha. What makes the Spanish or German teams good? Their local leagues. These guys play at home, they know each other, 50% of the Spanish team play for Real Madrid, 45% for Barcelona and few others play outside of Spain. 90% of the German team play in the Bundesliga and the remaining 10% outside of Germany, same goes for a country like Brazil. How many African teams can boast of having 90% home based teams? Africans don't support their leagues and Egypt and Tunisia that have some of the best leagues are going through hard times. Egypt hasn't been the same since the Arab Spring. We need to focus on our leagues 1 Like |

You People should stop putting unnecessary pressure on Keshi! This is one Indigenous coach that has made Nigerians believe in the super eagles again! We are not helping him and the team by thinking we would win the world cup! We have to be realistic! All the coaches that have taken us to the world cup(both foreign and local) have not surpassed the second round so why are we even thinking of winning it? What we need now is set realistic goals like making it to the second round after a very long time(France '98) and if we do we try to surpass that hurdle with determination and a little bit of luck! I believe Stephen Keshi should remain the coach for a long time regardless of the outcome of next year's world cup! I believe in him but we shouldn't get carried away! 1 Like |

Not with these present squad of ego centric and over confident players. The Ethiopians got the better of us in that department even though we won the game. |

Nigeria can definitely win the world cup in Brazil. It all depends on the players and the coach. They got to be believe and ready to fight to the end. But I'll advice Keshi to meet with Prophet T.B Joshua if he really wants to win the world cup. |

If Nigeria had a good Goalkeeper Nigeria is more than capable of Wining the World Cup. We're at the stage of early Brazil, brilliant but undermined by rubbish goal-keeping. However, they were so good, they went out with the philosophy of compensating for their Goal-keeping deficiency by out scoring the opposition. We are not capable of doing the same so we need a good goal keeper. |

Is nt impossible, even though d super eagles lack cutting edge which d golden eaglet had in UAE (different level anyway). By cutting edge, I mean razor sharp attack, 95 % accurate crosses & set pieces, ability to dominate play & frustrate your opponent (possession play & intricate passing without to many inefficient long balls), incisive counter attacking, long range shots ability by most of our strikers (only emenike and nsofor can do this); ideye, musa, moses can't rily shoot 4rm impossible angles. Dis xristics win tourneys, we may just reach d semis whr a defensive blunder or missed chances may halt our progress. D gud tin is dat d confed cup exposed d fact dat spain, uruguay, italy r beatable. We shd av beaten uruguay and spain if we made most of our chances. |

On a serious note, the question should be CAN WE QUALIFY FROM OUR GROUP? If we can qualify, the next question should be CAN WE GET TO THE QUARTER FINAL THIS TIME? I we can beat our previous records of two 2nd round appearances, then I think anything is possible. The team is filled with average players at the moment and Teams with average players hardly go far except in rare cases (South Korea in 2002, Turkey in 2002, Croatia in 1998 etc). |
