James Essien, the biological father of
Chelsea star, Michael Essien, is beside
himself with rage as a result of the player’s
failure to cater for him in recent years.
Consequently, the father has stated that the
midfielder should cease using the name
‘Essien’ as his surname. “I have been ill for
over a year now. It is Kyeremeh (Berekum
Chelsea board chairman) who takes care of
me, and I see no point in him continuing to
bear my name,” he said on Happy Sports
yesterday.
Reacting to what might have caused the
player’s allegedly irresponsible acts, he
said, “His mother has been ill-advising him
to stop providing for my upkeep. I will go all
out to ensure that he stops using my name.
“Even if I have to drag him to the law
courts, I will do that,” he added.
The player is alleged to have shirked his
duty of taking care of his father for some
time now. A few months ago, the father was
in the media soliciting for support to take
care of his medical bills; and moved by
compassion, the board chairman of Berekum
Chelsea, Emmanuel Kyeremeh decided to
remit Essien’s father occasionally.
Daily Guide Sports further probed into the
matter in an interview with Mr. James
Essien’s new ‘son’ Mr. Kyeremeh, who
confirmed the story. “It is true that I
support Mr. Essien. I don’t take full
responsibility of his upkeep, but I do
support him,” Mr. Kyeremeh said.
Readers will recall that James Essien, Father
of Michael, in early 2008 made claims t o
the Sunday Mirror, an English newspaper,
that his son was not taking care of him. Two
years later, the issue resurfaced, with
allegations and counter-allegations by both
father and son, attracting mixed reactions
from the Ghanaian populace.
Daily Guide, in an effort to uncover the
truth, took a trip to the father’s village
where James Essien confirmed that indeed
his son had neglected him.

After months and months of injury struggles,
culminating in his inability to participate in the World
Cup for Ghana, Michael Essien will have to deal with
the disappointment of not being able to compete in
the biggest tournament in African history. But
injuries do happen, and he is certainly not alone in
being an important player missing the cup this
summer because of them, as David Beckham, Michael
Ballack and American Charlie Davies can attest.
Injuries are one thing, but being cursed is a whole
'nother beast entirely.

According to reports in Africa the reason for the
midfielder’s long-term injury is that of a bad luck
curse, known as a juju, issued by his estranged
father.
Not the dreaded juju! Juju (from what my limited
sources can gather) is nothing to mess with, and
although you may enjoy eating Jujubes, I can assure
you that this curse doesn't grant you a lifetime supply
of those tasty little treats, because that would be way
more of a gift than any kind of curse. Apparently it
can give you chronic knee injuries, though, and keep
you out of the World Cup. Shame, that. I'm sure
Michael would prefer the Jujubes.

James Essien, who resides in a mud hut in rural
Ghana, is currently very ill from a self-imposed
hunger strike after hearing the news of his son's
inability to play for his national side in South Africa.
Essien has apparently made many attempts to
contact his son, who he hasn’t spoken to in 15 years,
without receiving a reply.
So his dad put a curse on him that is keeping him out
of the World Cup, and now is self-imposing a hunger
strike because his son can't play in the World Cup ...
supposedly because of the curse he put on him. How
does that make any sense? This Mr. James Essien
must just hate happiness in general. I think this
whole thing could just be reversed if James Essien
self-imposed a Jujube-only diet, magically healing the
knee of his son, who would then lead the Black Stars
to World Cup triumph.
