This is what I am doing that is working for me:- --- buy ur glucometer --- test ur blood sugar 2 hrs after every meal to know and understand how ur body response to different types of food --- avoid high glycemic index food like white bread; ; sugar; ;coke etc --- after doing the above for 2wks. Then u device ur personal diabetes control methods. --- as for my personal control method i ensure that I eat light low glycemic index food in the evening. So that my blood sugar levels will b at most 120mg/dl in the morning. With this I can take a small portion of balance diet meal at abt 7-8am. 2hrs later my blood sugar levels is at most 150-160mg/dl. Then I take peanuts or ground nuts plus coke zero as in between meals. Then by 12pm exactly 4hrs after my breakfast I take lunch which may be beans plantain or wheat and soup... then dinner another light meal. Then d next morning I go another lists of low glycemic index foods ( u can google them). I test regularly but I hardly hit 150-160mg/dl Please note diabetes is not a disease its just understanding that ur God given body doesn't require high glycemic index foods like white carbohydrates and refined sugar. So give it wat it required which is low and medium glycemic index foods. The inability to understand this is wat leads to sickness that makes people say diabetes is bad. So just understand ur body chemistry and knw wat to avoid also exercise alot. Simple 1 Like |

I see a lot of people here suggesting that you exercise and avoid sugar. But as a medikal docthor I'll tell you that those things will only increase your blood sugar level even more. You should do the following: 1. Get two boxes of St. Louis sugar and chew the shit out of those cubes. Make sure you finish it or it will not work. The idea is to combat the sugar already present in your blood stream with the new intake. They eventually obliterate each other and voila!...you're sugar free. 2. Sit on you ass all day and don't do shit. For best results, just stare at any fucking screen you can find (Tv, computer, phone....) all day. Good health to you. |

I'll advice you to simply do away with junk foods. Most Nigerians are addicted to junk food. Like you said about diabetes, it's an illness that takes courage to take care of. It's not easy to live with diabetes (I gonna post a topic about this later). Stay healthy. Your health is everything. |

It's not easy to live with diabetes (I gonna post a topic about this later). Stay healthy. Your health is everything. When most people say diabetes is a dangerous disease makes me to laugh. Simple understanding of knowing what to eat and what not to eat is the solution. Please our bodies don't have same blood group; genotypes; DNA; ability to store refined sugar etc. So not knowing ur God given body is the first problem? Check all the people that are suffering diabetes related sicknesses they broke the rule I.e either they eat wat they should not eat due to ignorance or lack of self discipline. |

@OP Most of the advises you got here so far are great. As you have been told diabetes managements are individual specific. So see your healthcare provider to establish your baseline datas and the desire therapuetical interventional threshold. Meanwhile, is good you know some basic foods to aviod or minimize. Items that are already processed, like, glucose, sucrose, fruitose, maltose, galactose, lactose etc. Are to be avoided or consumed sparely. These products are already at the final stages of digestion. so their sugars move through the process of osmotic transport from the semi permeable membrance right from the tongue, mucous linings of the digestive tract straight to the blood stream. Thereby causing sugar spike. or sugar rush. Conversley, complex sugar products like rice, eba, pounded yam, plantain, yam etc, have to go through many stages of digestive conversions to be reduced to absorbable sugar of glucose etc . And this process is gradual. Does not create sugar rush. So, you can eat rice, ema, eba etc but in moderation. Fruits, especially sweet ones like mangoes, pawpaw, all fruit-juices,minerals, watermelon, oranges are fruitose that goes directly from mouth to increase your blood sugar level. Aviod them. Use them sparely only when your blood sugar is low, ie <70 miligram per deciliter of your blood reading. Then eat a complex meal as soon as possible to maintain a substainable sugar level. Sugar is the fuel that drive our lifes. On the long run all food are convertable to different types of sugars to fuel our life metabolism. Just too much of it at one time craetes flooding at the carburator or conversion to useable energy level, resulting into complex systemic problems all over the entire body. In summary, aviod or eat little simple sugars foods like sweet fruits, surgery drinks, malts, ice-creams, cookies, donuts, buns, cubes/granulated sugars, horney etc. Eat in moderations- complex carbohydrates foods like rice, garri, yams, unsweetened wheat products, plantains, oats, etc. Eat freely green leafy vegetables and other color vegetables. And sparely on proteins and fats products. 1 Like |

Rogo: Take a long fasting program and break with plenty of water and after a while take pepper soup as ur meal do this in three day and meet ur doctor for confirmation. Bros this is hunger strike that's bad for ur muscles that re needed to help absorb blood sugar to convert them to energy. As per the pepper soup strategy it really works for me. As a matter of fact I take more pepper soup and one sliced cat fish 4 evenings in a week. And when I wake up in the next day to measure my blood sugar atmost its 120mg / dl. |
