Gunmen Kill Three In Fresh Adamawa Attack by Nobody: 11:37am On Nov 23, 2013
Few days after the National Assembly approved the extension of the emergency rule in three states including Adamawa, Yola the Adamawa State capital has come under attack by unknown gunmen which results in the death of three people.
The attack, which was the first launched on the state capital since the emergency rule was imposed on the state, came to many as a rude shock since there is high presence of the military personnel manning strategic positions in the town.
The attack scene in Kasuwar Gwari was a few metres away from a military checkpoint and apparently targeted members of Civilian JTF who are on the prowl for Boko Haram insurgents and are assisting the military in the war against terror.
‘’The attackers numbering about eight struck the popular market, and only shot those that identified as members of Civilian JTF,” an eyewitness said.
Another eyewitness who simply identified himself as Maigari, said bedlam broke out in the area when the gunmen struck and people scampered for safety to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
Following the attack, the military increased surveillance across the state capital, mounting checkpoints at unusual places in a bid to track down the fleeing gunmen.
There was also intensive scrutiny at the various checkpoints across the state capital, leading to severe traffic gridlock across the major security checkpoints while the ever busy Jimeta Shopping Complex, the hub of GSM sales and services was closed down.
Efforts to speak with the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade, Brig-Gen. Fatai Oladipo Alli for comments did not yield results as journalists who were in his office to seek clarifications over the development were told that he was too busy to talk to the press. http://leadership.ng/news/231113/gunmen-kill-three-fresh-adamawa-attack-0
