If that's the case, my best advice for u is to see a computer guy OR go to one of these HP or Compaq places if u just got ur laptop. 2 Likes |

I experienced a similar thing on a desktop pc sometime ago. After working for few minutes, the temperature becomes too hot. I opened it up, blew out the dust on the heat sink and cooling fan and the problem was fixed. 5 Likes |

1. It appears your HEATSINK is not seated properly on your processor. 2. Your processor cooling fan may not be working. 3. Your HEATSINK may not be the right size fo your pocessor; try getting a larger one especially if your processor is high frequency. 4. Ensure that the heat transfer paste that seats between you HEATSINK & PROCESSOR is well spread and not too much. It's good that you already know its a heat problem causing the restart. Good success. 6 Likes |

Open it and clean the Fan/fan vent, there's likely too much dirt in it. If that doesn't work then you might have to replace the fan. you can do this on your own, quite straight forward 2 Likes |

@op my PC has this same problem even while i was in UK ( although during summer). But what I discovered abt mine was that I didn't give enough room for ventilation. Make sure you give enough room where the fan is blowing warm air out from your PC. You can try that 2 Likes |

Overheating.. doesnt mean your fan is not working. You need to buy an extra cooling for laptop. You are probably using a laptop with AMD processor. 2 Likes |

Check if the fan is working by placing your hand on the air vent. Your Processor needs to be checked. It could be that some thermal paste will help moderate the temperature. It is possible that your OS has gone bad. If that is the case, then you will need go reload or recover the system These are not jobs for the layman. Why does my mind tell me it's a HP laptop? I doubt if i'm wrong. Cheap build. Cheap conductor used for the GPU sink. doesn't vent the heat properly so after a while it packs up completely. @ some point they did a firmware upgrade that makes the system fan turn continuously (and sound like a generator). Didn't help. you can check for a copper version of d conductor on ebay. "GPU heat sink copper shim" is the keyword. I bet u all the search results will have "HP" somewhere. Known problem with HP. Don't bother calling customer service. Crashes completely a few months after your warranty neways. Permanent fix? never buy a HP personal laptop. Business versions are fine. Goodluck. 2 Likes |

Obinnau: Whenever my pc gets hot it just turns off and continues to do so until it has cooled down, is there a component i need to change? What should i do? Pls help me. Its really frustrating being in the middle of something and the stuff turning off. This is my area of specialty, It's the heat sink that is causing the problem, the thermal paste within the heat sink must have completely dried out, which is causing the fan not to run properly thereby making the PC overheat which results to the PC shutdown.. 2 Likes |

Its called thermal shutdown and is designed by the engineers to shut ur system off to prevent your motherboard from burning, check to see if the fan is working when on, if not, go to a computer repairer. 2 Likes |

Of course your system should shut down when it is too hot. Did you buy tokumbo or brand new. If it is not brand new then possible problem is dusts in the vents or tired fan or in extreme case no thermal paste between ur heatsink and processor. If it is brand new, your fan may not be sitting properly or could be some intel board mismanufactured (check whether it is intel board). 1 Like |
