head & shoulder in what? what exactly would nas do better than eminem?

lyricism? no song making? no freestyle ability? no - what exactly has nas got over eminem apart from the name? we tend to overhype these old-school rappers but if you laid bare their lyrics, it's got nothing.

Stuck in positions. If victims can't stand the heat,
Then stay the Bleep out the kitchen.
Have these bustas switchin, lookin at me mean.
Itchin, givin suckas plenty space.
Have these bitch niggas snitchin.
Where are we now? Guns found daily.
The feds surely hope that they could finally nail
me for sellin dope.
They backwards, make tracks burst whenever I
rap.
Attack. Words bein known to explode on contact.
Extreme at times. Blinded by my passion and
fury.
Look at me laugh at my competition's flashin my
jewelry.
You'd stay silent if you niggas knew me. Truely
effective.
The shit you heard ain't do me justice. Got a
death wish, bitch.
Run up, face me and trace wit an infared beam.
It seems niggas ain't recognize my team.
Ain't nobody holdin you back. Explode the track
to confetti.
Unload it. Cuz niggas ain't ready. The life of an
outlaw.
[Chorus repeats]
Code 3. Attack formation. Pull out your pistols.
Keep an eye out for the devils cuz they itchin to
get you.
Mercy to this madman screamin kamikaze in
tongue.
Automatic gunfire makin all my enemies run.
Who should I call when I'm shot and bleedin.
Indeed the possibility has part a chase in cream.
Dope got me hatin fiends. Scheam wit my team,
just a chosen few.
My foes victim of explosives. Come closer. Exhale

We got memories fadin fast. A slave for cash.
Accelerate, mash, blast, then dash.
Don't look now. How you like it, raw.
Niggas ain't ready for the wrath of the outlaws.
Never surrender.
Death is for a son to stay free. I'm thugged out.
Bleep the world cuz this is how they made me.
Scarred but still breathin.
Believe in me and you could see the victory.
A warrior with jewels. Will you picture me?
Life of and outlaw.
[Chorus repeats]
City under siege. It's like I can't even breathe.
I'm from the state of car theives. G, deep from
the street.
Plenty beef. I play for keeps, arrange the whole
crime scene.
Mobb Deep. This nigga from behind tryin to
creep.
No halfs wit no straps, jack.
It's on to bounce back.
And an ounce so fat, they snatch my style ?
Get this grip wit hollows to get cha.
Snip wit clippers. Get the picture?
I wrote my life down like a scripture.
And I'm still on lost in the land of the lonely.
Where ain't nobody holy. A matter of a fact, we
unholy.
Everybody livin soley for themselves. Too hostile
on a land hell.
Somebody need me. You know we lost hope and
we needin it.
Wit the evil it's forever. But it might be low down,
scandalouz
Like a tramp is. All for the street fame on how to
be managed.
To plan shit. 6 months in advaced to what we
plotted.
Approved to go on swole and now I got it.
Un uh, crack my window. Knowin they'd love to
catch Kastro sleepin.
Attach a strap under my pillow and a hand like
we freakin.
Creepin deep into morning. Peepin out the weak.
While they yawnin and let my cloud speak for it's
self.
No doubt. Outlaw. Outta my mind, outta time.
You're all blind.
Some kind of life of mine Kato don't mind.
Findin it funny, matter of fact, cuz it is.
Perhaps finally I look at that true over the years as
an outlaw.
Eh, Noble.
What's up nigga.
Would you die for me, nigga?
Hell yeah.
Would you kill for me?
On my grandmother, nigga.
Ah yo.
What's up.
Let's ride on them stupid bitches right now.
Watch out.
Well now they all say they roaches and parasites.
Snakes and all they might
Thug Life break night.
Drink till we fist fight.
Life or death. But you can't win with a vest.
But there won't be no breathing for the reason
Punk bitch on your breath.
I see day is dark and I admit it's dark.
So chase ?
Beware foolin marks.
And yo, Makaveli, give me them bullets that was
left for PO's belly.
And let me bust back to them niggas till they all

this dude is a genius.....
lose yourself is the best song ever written by a rapper in the last 100 years. people who write know how difficult it is to pen lyrics & make every word used in one verse rhymes with another.

that song alone makes eminem a rap god....and it's as far back as 2002.

You better loose urslef to the music
The moment u own it u better never let it go

commercial success driven by hardwork & unparalleled lyricism. you are forgetting one point - eminem emerged from the battle rap circuit. he's not just a storyteller like nas or 2pac. eminem epitomises hard-knock life.

imagine modenine selling 80 million records in future & someone says mode-9 symbolises commercial success - that person would be stabbed in lagos for such blasphemy! eminem is so much more than album sales.....he is rap!

as for sampling, nothing new.....is your primary school english teacher better than you just because she taught you alphabets & tenses many moons ago? eminem has evolved from the monosyllabic rhyming of the rakims & 2pac. eminem has taken rap lyricism into a new level.

Are you suggesting Ra never battled other Mcees in the '80s? Ask Biz Markie, a comrade-in-arms, if in doubt grin
Do you know what it means to lay down 18 bars on a track, while cutting your teeth much earlier on in the game?

I am beginning to wonder why I am debating Ra's place in the hall of fame, when I actually rank Naz ahead of eminem also.
By the way, your analogy about my primary school teacher would only be relevant if she's remained trapped in a time capsule. As Rakim clearly hasn't, it is rather misplaced here.

For the avoidance of doubt, eminem's lyrical prowess is indisputable. What I quibble, however, is any opinion that ranks him ahead of those who not only trail-blazed the game but have continued to conquer new frontiers, across a generational gap.

lyricism? no one comes close to eminem. how do you want it? polysyllabic rhymes or wordplay? punchlines or sick metaphors?

abeg - eminem will make nas cry.

eGuerrilla:
Are you suggesting Ra never battled other Mcees during his time? Ask Biz Markie, a comrade-in-arms, if in doubt grin
Do you know what it means to lay down 18 bars on a track, while cutting your teeth much earlier on in the game?

you have a way of making things up. you said eminem epitomises commercial sales, i countered back that eminem was discovered in a rap battle competition so he's not your average lil wayne or kanye west. he started from the pits & worked his way up the ladder.

I am beginning to wonder why I am debating Ra's place in the hall of fame, when I actually rank Naz ahead of eminem also.

nas ahead of eminem is just pushing it. even amongst nas peers in the 90s, he was never considered awesome. biggie, big l, big pun, 2pac were greater.

By the way, your analogy about my primary school teacher would only be relevant if she's remained trapped in a time capsule. As Rakim clearly hasn't, it is rather misplaced here.

rakim is still trapped......
these people just write songs like writing an essay. how much work do they put in writing lyrics? how much of their lyrics are polysyllabic? how much punches do the lyrics pack? wordplay? if you compare what embodies lyricism now & what it was then, you would be embarrassed.

For the avoidance of doubt, eminem's lyrical prowess is indisputable. What I quibble, however, is any opinion that ranks him ahead of those who not only trail-blazed the game but have continued to conquer new frontiers, across a generational gap.

mention one rakim's album greater than MMLP. remove album sales or media hype - just compare the pen game, the art of story-telling & the lyrical dexterity. paying tribute to rakim is just saluting the man that paved the way for the upcoming rappers - it has nothing to do with their lyrical ability.

eminem is 100 times greater than rakim!!

Lyrically Eminem will absolutely destroy tupac, the only rappers that can stand him are nas and rakim. If tupac was alive today, he will be completely irrelevant. The only reason people rave about PAC was because of the circumstances behind his death.Eminem rapping technique wise, he is miles ahead of anyone, dead or alive.

Rhyming
He is one of the best at crafting rhymes. He fits a large number of rhymes into each line with multisyllabic and internal rhymes. His ability to bend word pronunciations allows him to pack more rhymes in and be more expressive. Also, these rhymes that aren't quite perfect tend to be more interesting to hear.

Diversity of Flows
His flow varies a lot from song to song. Shake That, Soldier, Crazy in Love, Never Enough, The Way I Am, Stay Wide Awake, Business, Infinite, Tonite

Song Variety
Comedic: My Name Is, Just Lose It, We Made You, My Fault
Introspective: Going Through Changes, Talkin 2 Myself, Cleanin Out My Closet, Deja Vu, Beautiful, If I Had, Sing For the Moment
Sentimental: You're Never Over, Mockingbird, Hallie's Song
Energizing: Not Afraid, Lose Yourself, Til I Collapse, No Love
Story Telling: Stan, '97 Bonnie & Clyde, As The World Turns, Brain Damage

Respect of Peers
It can be difficult for a rapper to cater to the tastes of the rap community and the public at large. The public tends to respond more to the beat and the chorus, while other rappers are more impressed with the technical elements like rhyme schemes. It is tempting for rappers to neglect the technical elements since they make more money from the beats/chorus. As Jay-Z famously quipped, "I dumbed down for my audience and doubled my dollars." Em and Jay discuss this on their song Syllables. One of the impressive aspects of Eminem's music is that he manages to do both at once. Some of his most popular singles are also among his most impressive technically (cf. Lose Yourself).

Yup..I'll take 50 cent b4 em.... I love eminem...he has jst one style which is being way too over serious, and he is over hyped above d level he is simply bcoz he is a whyte doing a black mans trade succesfully. Put him wit d lil wayne and d drake's and d rickross kind..then he is ahead..bt if u're trully a rap fan who has much of tupac and d outlawz and biggie in you..u'll choose 50cent and Nas ahead of emimen

^ tell them....they are believing the hype....as i earlier stated...d only reason he Big is cos He got a Huge White following/base....also..he isn't doing anytin different that he hasnt done before....And these ppu On here...kip make a mountain out of nawtin....

fruityjojo: I take offence to dat god in capital letter! 2 me, Eminem is d best rapper alive! Himself & his alter ego slim shady cheesy
Am bk & I can't belive d lubbish peeps are saying! Comparing Eminem with rozay, drake, lil wayne wat!
Eminem is first lead artist since The Beatles to
have four singles score in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot
100 charts!.
Eminem is the only rapper to have two diamond-certified albums!.
Eminem is the first artist in Nielsen
SoundScan history to have a two year-end best-selling
albums.
Eminem Recovery is the best-selling digital album
in
history!. HISTORY!!!
Eminem doesn't just singg trash or abt selling drugs & slapping big asse$. As fast as his rap u can actually hear & understand d concept, pain, love & struggle behind each single! Mehnn I love Eminem & of cause 2pac grin!
U guys dnt break my heart with all dis nonsense post!

Why? because its a white man's world!! white man say something is good and we conform! same way they are making justin bieber look extraordinary meanwhile the guy dey sing nonsense, same way they made michael jackson change his skin color cos they couldn't bare the fact that a black-man was the king of pop. Eminem is a good rapper but god of rap?? helllll to the NO!!! does he have flows like Tupac, kendrick lamar? does he have punchlines like kanye west, Nas? even lil wayne!!!wtf?
