In the month of October 2013; 31st of October 2013 to be precise. Google announced the latest version of Android OS - Android 4.4 KitKat and it is a big update to the world’s most used mobile Operating System. Apart from the Google Nexus 5 that has KitKat 4.4 originally installed on it, there are so many other devices too that will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat via OTA (Over-The-Air) update. You don't have to worry about your RAM, doubting if KitKat will work smoothly on your device because Google claimed that huge optimizations has been made to the platform and its core apps so that even devices with 512MB of RAM can have a good, smooth Android experience [the majority of Androids across the world are actually low-end devices with 512MB of RAM].

The ROMs in XDAForum are Custom ROMS, being tweaked & optimized with the features of KitKat and most of them are even under Beta, making so many features not working e.g Wireless, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode etc after being rolled to the devices. Not even devices as old as Sensation which originally runs Android 2.3 but upgradeable to Android 4.0.

You didn't get the real KitKat cuz Samsung didn't release Galaxy S2 among the OTA devices for KitKat yet, you only upgraded your S2 to an Android 4.4 KiTkat based OmniROM (although looks alike but not the same). Not that, Android 4.4 has so many new & updated features especially if you buy a device originally released with it like Nexus 5

Enhancement on the Multi-Tasking

Multi-tasking is essential on every smartphones or tablets and Android 4.4 KitKat takes the system performance to its optimal. Android 4.4 optimises memory usage for several apps running and made the touch screen responds faster and more accurate. Google Apps Full Integration

Google made Drive, Keep and QuickOffice native apps on Android 4.4 KitKat which integrates to one another. Drive allows you to save files on Google's cloud-based storage, Keep acts a notepad on your device while QuickOffice can open, edit or create Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets and presentations. In addition, Hangouts is now integrated to serve as SMS/MMS and Google+ chat client. Downloads app has been redesigned with more options and Email app client gets the same gestures and UI of Gmail app.

More Wireless Services

In addition to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and mobile data support, Android 4.4 allows Cloud Print and Tap to Pay features. Cloud Print is compatible among HP printers or printers with Google Play Store apps for cloud printing while Tap to Pay uses wireless technology to make payment for services.
