GEJ- Nissan To Build Cars In Nigeria by Kachi188(m): 11:45am On Dec 05, 2013 |
Not too long ago, we announced a new National Automobile Policy. I am happy to note that the policy is now attracting great interest in our country with the consequential benefit for job creation and savings for our nation. The announcement by the Nissan Corporation that it will be investing in our country by way of manufacturing its brand of cars in Nigeria is very heart warming. With the confirmation that Nigeria ranks fourth in the world as the fastest Return on Investment (RoI), I hereby call on other world class automobile manufacturers and other businesses to also begin their journey to establish factories in Nigeria as we have a well trained and hardworking work force, at home and abroad, ready to add value to the growth of businesses and our country. http://m.naij.com/news/53676.html President Goodluck Jonathan applauded the decision of one of the leading Japanese automobile manufacturers, Nissan, to build a Manufacturing plant in Nigeria. In his post on the official Facebook page the President was optimistic about the future of such an ambitious project: Not too long ago, we announced a new National Automobile Policy. GEJ If the project develops, Nissan will become the first global carmaker to build cars in Nigeria since west Africa's largest economy rolled out a policy to tempt investors into its nascent automotive industry. The first vehicle to be introduced was expected to be the Nissan Patrol SUV next year. The plant would also be opened to French auto group Renault, though the companies did not give any details. Japan's Nissan is aiming to double annual sales in Africa by 2016 from 110,000 units last year. It already plans to launch the Datsun brand in South Africa before the end of next year. It would be recalled that the Federal Government battles cars' importation, by drastically increasing customs fees and duties on imported vehicles starting from January 2014. Nevertheless, development of local automobile industry is encouraged. 1 Like |

idupaul: Jonathan is a dreamer if you think Nissan is going to open an assembly plant run with Generators then you must be Joking . Oh yes they are......another plus for this regime, Nissan and Stallion Group to Start Auto Assembly in Nigeria The Renault-Nissan Alliance and Stallion Group sign Memorandum of Understanding for vehicle assembly in Lagos Nissan to become the first major global auto manufacturer to assemble vehicles in Nigeria following legislation change Potential to develop plant into a major manufacturing hub for Nissan in Africa LAGOS, Nigeria (9 October 2013) - Today Nissan and West African conglomerate Stallion Group announced their intention to jointly launch vehicle assembly in Nigeria. The announcement is in expectation of final approval by the Federal Government of the new Automobile Industrial Policy, designed to encourage development of the auto industry in Nigeria, and would see Nissan become the first major international manufacturer to launch vehicle assembly in the country following the new legislation. The parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will result in Stallion – already Nissan's exclusive distributor in Nigeria - increasing capacity at its existing plant, VON Automobile Ltd in Lagos. Stallion currently produces commercial vehicles at the facility. The plant's annual capacity will be expanded to 45,000 units to assemble a range of cars, light duty trucks, pickups and vans. Full details of the product lineup will be confirmed at a later date, however it is anticipated the first product to be introduced will be the iconic Nissan Patrol SUV in spring 2014. Capacity at the plant will also be opened to Nissan's Alliance partner Renault, to be utilized according to future business needs. Nissan President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, said: “We welcome the proactive measures being taken by the Government of Nigeria to encourage inward investment and job creation driven by local auto manufacturing. Together with our local partner, Nissan is preparing to make Nigeria a significant manufacturing hub in Africa. As the first-mover in Nigeria, we are positioned for the long-term growth of this market and across the broader continent." Sunil Vaswani, Chairman of Stallion Group said “The new automotive policy spearheaded by His Excellency The President and Commander–in-Chief of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, and the Honorable Minister Olusegun Aganga is a laudable Government initiative aimed at making Nigeria the regional leader in the industry. Our group is committed to invest in a fully integrated automobile industry that fosters the creation of several ancillary industries with associated socio-economic benefits." He added: “We value our partnership with Renault and Nissan immensely and are aiming to deliver their world class expertise to Nigeria." Nissan in Africa: Nissan is positioned for significant future growth in Africa as part of its mid-term business strategy. By FY 2016 the company is aiming to double annual sales on the continent, up from 110,000 units at the end of FY 2012. To help achieve this, a number of new models have already been confirmed including an all-new pickup truck which will be produced locally by Nissan at its plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria and the launch of the Datsun brand in South Africa before the end of FY 2014. About The Renault-Nissan Alliance: The Renault-Nissan Alliance is a strategic partnership between Paris-based Renault and Yokohama, Japan-based Nissan, which together sell one in 10 cars worldwide. The companies, which have been strategic partners since 1999, sold 8.1 million cars in nearly 200 countries in 2012. In addition to AVTOVAZ, the Alliance operates strategic collaborations with automakers including Germany's Daimler, China's Dong Feng, and India's Ashok Leyland. http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/NEWS/2013/_STORY/131009-01-e.html 27 Likes |

Buddy, we know how much y'all love Lagos (as opposed to Oyo or Ibadan) ... but why not give credit to whom credit is due? You know if the president was a northerner or some tribalistic goon that for whatever reason, as Obasanjo did, seek to marginalise Lagos... do you think this news will even be rumored, talkless of having a good prospect as it does now? GEJ aint like that... whether it is an int'l airport in Enugu... or a manufacturing plant in Lagos... improved agricultural practises in the North or sea ports in the south... why not give this man credit as the most hardworking of all the past leaders Naija has ever had.... check all the past presidents, how many of them have done half of what GEJ has done so far....? the ball has been set rolling for constant power supply, and it had to take an Ijaw man to do it... grand strides, huge developments, changes on the face and landscape of Nigeria have been mostly from a section of this so-called 'One Nigeria... ' Again, bro... give credit to whom, when and as due... is that too much to ask for? Now can I hear you say 'GEJ till 2019!'? or take it further if you've been loving the fresh air and go 'GEJ till 20XX! where X>19 lol..) geeez: Lagos is moving forward 42 Likes |

remark D: Buddy, we know how much y'all love Lagos (as opposed to Oyo or Ibadan) ... but why not give credit to whom credit is due? I've seen impressive and massive industrialization in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun with new factories springing up I know a lot has to do with what the states are doing to attract investments Have you wondered why these things aren't happening in Borno or Ebonyi (two different challenges, same results) 4 Likes |

fabulous4u: Fair in what sense? Can you point to one thing he's done for Lagos since becoming president? Just one thing Despite Lagos being the most populous state Lagos state invests substantially in the policing of the state, despite the police being under the FG which earns more in revenue than all the states put together Lagosians generate their own electricity Lagos has built and rehabilitated a lot of roads including Federal roads Lagos has been solely responsible for providing water to residential, commercial and industrial areas If the FG isn't doing anything to make Lagos an investment haven, then you have to give it to the LASG if investors keep trooping in And what about Ogun which currently has more industries than Lagos? How has the FG been fair to them too? 11 Likes |

This is good news! Some parts of Lagos has 24 hours electricity ran by a private power station, so that is no problem. This will create more jobs in Nigeria. They must make sure top management positions are 90% Nigerians we must push for that! 2 Likes |

Joeblaze ochola: Its indeed a welcome development,i fore see Honda,Toyota,Volkswagen etc joining d league No reason why not. Local manufacturing firms like INNOSON will actually benefit from this. There's no way INNOSON will not rise in the next few years with rivals like Nissan in the mix. They will be forced to update their processes, bring in new, world-class management, develop their R & D regime, bring out innovative vehicles, and stake their claim in the market. 9 Likes |

geeez:*he added Lagos request for a $200m foreign loan proposal demand to the mtef for 2014 to facilitate the completion of Lagos light rail and some projects in Lagos. *he approved the construction of a fast rail between Lagos and Ibadan *he approved the construction of an additional port in Lagos to be located at lekki. *has been involved on some federal roads in Lagos e.g third mainland bridge ,oshodi apapa expressway etc . *has approved a construction of a greenfield refinery in lekki by a joint venture of NNPC and ccecc. *have attracted several investors to Lagos just like the one were currently commenting on. he did all this despite the bias and hate the APC and their apologists have shown him because he as a person has proven that he can rise above hate . so can u now stop been bias and truthful to your conscience . you asked for one but I just overfed you now can u please rise above hate? 42 Likes |

Key word is " to" build. It may never see the light of the day. Vaswani brothers' Alliance Auto that is unable to do anything with Volkswagen of Nigeria Plant, which has an existing structure, is talking about building a car plant from nothing. Are they talking about powertrain or drivetrain components? Are we talking about FBUs? This is like another "I'll generate another 10k MW by December 2013". 1 Like |

I wonder why Goodluck Jonathan keeps appropriating the glory of any achievement in Nigeria to himself while the failures are the handiwork of APC. When the MTN boss won an award he claimed his government was instrumental in it. When Akinwumi Adeshina won the Forbes award the Presidency claimed they made Adeshina. |

fabulous4u: You've splashed your low intelligence and knowledge over the www To start with, I will say, is that all? Next, the $200m is a loan, which will be paid back on a project that isn't the FG's idea Next the Lekki Port is an idea conceived by Lagos and powered by Lagos. Next, there's no fast rail between Lagos and Ibadan and no one uses those dead tracks to move goods. The last I heard was that it takes one week to move goods from Lagos to Ibadan. Which serious business person will consider that means of transportation The 3MB is an existing bridge and I'm on the bridge now and the lights aren't working. Every streetlight that comes on at night in Lagos powered by the LASG. I have an office in Apapa and the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway is still as horrible as ever, even worse The refinery, which has not even commenced, is not the FG's idea Once again I ask, what has the FG done? 15 Likes |

geeez:once again you've proven that hate has beclouded your sense of reasoning and judgement. lemme just prove it with your first counter claim if Jonathan has out of hate refused to facilitate the loan for Lagos state do you think your so called light rail can ever be completed in the nearest future?go and ask lateef jakande what buhari your slave master did to a similar project and ask amaechi why he is crying in the media ? as for the lekki deep sea port it was an obj idea that wasn't followed through until good luck Jonathan came on board and that's why the FG has a bigger stake in it(20%) compared to Lagos (18.5%). and your question was what has he done for Lagos ?it doesn't matter who conceived the idea but if Jonathan's political will to actualize this is seen as done nothing then I must have to admit that u are bias 29 Likes |
