The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Tuesday rewarded the two members of the world-conquering Golden Eaglets who are Kano indigenes, skipper Musa Muhammad and defender Bello Zaharradine, with houses: each a three-bedroom detached bungalow.

He also promised to name a street after them at their preferred choice in Amana, Bandirawo or Kwankwasiyya city; and gave them N300, 000 each.

The Governor also gave N9.8 million to the Golden Eaglets team and officials. Each of the remaining 18 players was to receive N250, 000 each, while the officials would go home with sums ranging from N150, 000 to N500, 000.

The Golden Eaglets recorded a record fourth FIFA Under-17 World Cup victory in the UAE last month.

Governor Kwakwanso, who hosted the team at the Kano Government House alongside Kano Pillars for wining a back-to-back Premier League title; and the Kano Pillars Basketball team for winning the 2013 DSTV Championship, said the Golden Eaglets are pride of the continent for their exemplary conduct at the championship where they also won several laurels. Kelechi Iheanacho emerged as the MVP, goalkeeper Dele Alampasu won the Golden Gloves and the team won the overall Fair Play Award.

“We the government and sport-loving people of Kano State are very proud of the achievement of the Golden Eaglets for winning the World Cup for a record fourth time in the UAE,” said Kwankwaso.

“In fact, our support and hosting of this team is significant because the captain as well as another important player of the team is from Kano State.”

Earlier before the team’s visit to Kano, the Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, also gave the entire team N20 million.
