This is how you rein in a budget and still create a visual masterpiece. Keenly watching how the effects holds up to the first film. Probably would be the same since it's prolly gonna share the same set as the first. This is what I wanna see in the new DCU where budgets are managed sensibly and quality still holds up. That amount on Black Adam still dey vex me. 🙄 Since Safran has a reputation for cost management, I'll be looking forward to what they assign to various projects.

"Brotherhood" 2022 "Nollywood flick? AK-47? RPG? Exploding cars? Grappling hook gun? Smoke grenade?... Micheal Bay come outside now! This Nollywood take at the heist genre piqued my interest and i am left more than half satisfied. The directing and cinematography was so good done by a budding film maker from Uganda, Loukman Ali, who i have a lot of respect and hope for. you can see a clear difference with proper action sequence and use of Hollywood level action props. The writing was done by Jadesola Osiberu who did "Isoken" (2017), and it showed that his niche is most likely Romance/Drama caused he almost ruin the movie it a romance sappy side plot. The cast was mix of ex BBN alumni and established actors. I doubt if actors in this clime get coaching or attend film schools. Only Tobi Bakare and OC Ukeje stood out well enough with thier acting and gave a convincing interpretation of thier roles. Absolutely loving the love for Pidgin English as a norm for dialogues in our movies lately, another brilliant poignant use of it here. The score was perfect and akin well enough to what is obtainable in a top tier action flick. A roommate of mine from UNI was part of the sound engineering team and they did a great job. The problem i had with Shanty Town ( 2023) still cropped up here, they made the ending act so ambiguous to stick a proper landing, and they just resulted putting something about what happened to the characters that is even more ambiguous on the post credit. All in All, it is a very decent watch and the nice action sequence and directing is enough to see it through. Nollywood has my full attention in 2023 ⚠️. 4 Likes 4 Shares

oyaskii: Couldn't have said it better. This is like one of the best Nollywood action movies I've seen so far. The action sequence was quite good so was the directing & story(simple story). The director deserves a serious Pat on the back (our very own low budget Michael Bay ). With projects like this, there's light at the end of the tunnel for Nollywood movies. 1 Like 1 Share |

Baddestguyp:The only reason people went to watch this on cinema again is because of the death of Chadwick. The movie was worse than i imagined frs 😔. A very disappointing mess of a movie. People were saying it was emotional, but I didn't get any emotion from this movie at all, just a bunch of actresses crying and shit. 4 Likes 1 Share |

abduleez1: Sadly it was an oyibo investment that upped our level. Most of the local Nollywood financing only led to promotion of occult based inane storylines |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by abduleez1(m): 11:46am On Feb 05, 2023 |
GloriousGbola: Painfully. That occult nonsense tire me ehn.... They even started doing remakes of the past occult films. There's that one I watched with Ramsey Noah and the new guy sequel some years back. It was decent for a Nollywood flick with all the improved camera work, Cinematography and all but the story still same old shït. That film and is it Chief Daddy that broke the camel's back. Them just dey repeat wedding party and rich people tropes up and down. Na then I wash hand from Nollywood. 😭 Remember we first discussed it here that Netflix and Amazon coming into the game would most likely up our game. Financiers here are not ready to back "risky" projects with no formula of comic stars. I'm glad we're improving and finally our movies will become globally recognised like our Music is now. Better days ahead. |

RE: Horrible Bosses (2011) "Slapstick comedy gold" I miss the era of slapstick comedy flicks with shitty critic ratings and Horrible Bosses is one of the finest. It set out as 3 friends with horrible bosses and the only solution they came up with was to eliminate these bosses. What followed is a series of comical manuvers that will keep you giggling throughout 😁. With Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Jason Bateman starring with support from Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Collin ferrell and Jamie Foxx, it was actually an ensemble cast. They don't make comedy movies like this anymore, totally miss this era. 4 Likes

oyaskii: This year I made a promise to myself to read at least one book a month. The first book I wanted to read was The Three Body Problem. I tried looking for a place to buy it online, but it was only available in foreign shops and the price was over 14k minus shipping. E-books were out of the question, because I no longer enjoy staring at text on a screen for long periods of time I later stumbled on the audio book on YouTube, and it struck me that this was a perfect alternative. I could listen to it to and fro work and at any time I had a break in between work. I could also listen to it when I was doing other mindless tasks. The God father I finished "reading" this morning was also an audio book |

abduleez1:The meteoritic rise of our music shocked me. I couldn't be caught listening to a 9ja song circa 2011 down, but these days, my playlist is like 60% Afrobeats. And our movies is heading in that direction. Sadly we have empty airheads as leaders who would rather keep us in the trenches. Nigeria is full with so much talent in all spheres of life and with Abundant natural resources, we should be a world super power and i am not even joking. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by abduleez1(m): 12:23pm On Feb 05, 2023 |
oyaskii: Same here bruv, same here. Me wey my playlist was like 97% foreign. It was around the last 6 months of last year that my recent playlist could amount to over 60% Naija. So they Spotify now puts Nigerian content first over foreign songs for me now. If person tell me say e go happen any time soon I go say na lie. I was known to shat on Naija songs in the past. 2 days music don taya me. But there are some songs in the past two years that I've put on repeat for over a week straight. Even for video content, Naija songs wey yapa to choose from to fit your narrative storytelling no be here. Na mumu many of our leaders be. It's just enabling environment and policies most ppl need and the funds will start falling into place when ppl see a workable system. I was happy that year when Jonathan's ministers finally added Entertainment amongst contributors of GDP. And now it's showing how sensible that move was even tho the govt did little to nothing. If person talk say Nigerians go dey anticipate Grammys awards I go say na lie. 2 Likes 1 Share |

abduleez1: this is why we should have nothing but prayers for netflix they are the ones with an interest in promoting struggling movie industries in places like nigeria a lot of all the big name studios or companies have zero interest in establishing a footprint here this is especially important for Nigerians that love jumping on all those western holy wars of netflix vs amazon, steam vs epic etal. the real question is - which of them are providing services that make your life better? i like video games - and it is epic games that is providing regional discounts - which means if you are in nigeria, you can get $20 indie games for $5 Microsoft does the same - infact you can pay for most apps/games/subscriptions available on the microsoft store in NAIRA. so why would i want to buy a PS5 where i would have to pay in dollars with no discount whatsoever? minecraft legends will release in april . 40 usd , but 10k in NAIRA. those are companies/businesses that are investing in our market 1 Like |

abduleez1:Maan...yes o.. They are a safe bet for me Filmmakers are policed too much these days, too many agendas devouring the art, critics pan for feminism, Lgtv, racial and recently disable people representation in one movie, leading to more bland movies than actual good ones. Even older materials that are adapted to modern movies are having their screenplays reworked to fit these agendas. 2 Likes 1 Share |
