abduleez1:Same..Any win from here and i am pleased, rooting for "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Holdovers" but maaann "Oppenheimer" was an all timer...far too strong... fingers crossed |

oyaskii: Oppenheimer is way too dominant that's why I wanted Dune Part 2 for last year. I'd be rooting for "Anatomy of a Fall" and "Poor Things" as my next best films but I'm yet to watch either of them. |

The media has been milking the Greta and Margot Robbie's Oscar snub for virtue signalling... Barbie got 8 nominations ffs and the woke media is acting like it's not enough for mumu optics. "The women most responsible for the success of Barbie were snubbed, therefore bla bla.... " Go fvck yourselves with your brain dead agenda

BlackManta: A native american woman is (almost certainly) going to win best actress for the first time in history and instead of like celebrating that countless film journos are implying that margot robbie not being nominated in the same category is somehow a loss for feminism. I don't know what they are smoking over there in the West. 1 Like |

BlackManta:Like it's just sooooo strange. How does being a blockbuster make you win awards, if that's the case, Avengers Endgame which was definitely wayyyyyy better than most films that came out that year would be nominated, Greta has been nominated before too, she has 3 best picture nominations already- Margot Robbie didn't do even half better than the female actresses in her category. Barbie was not that good, the hype should die down 1 Like |

Don't get how Emily blunt is nominated for best actress in a supporting role with that piss poor performance. Don't get it. Even May December having a shot at Oscar is laughable. Felt more like an average netflix movie at best. 1 Like |

Illusioneffect: America Ferrera's inclusion over Margot Robbie might indeed raise eyebrows, but let's not dismiss Ferrera's performance without giving it a fair shake. And let's keep the feminist lens focused on merit, not politics. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by ErenXSatoru(f): 8:16pm On Jan 25 |
JessicaRabbit:tbvh tho, America Ferrera's performance wasn't as groundbreaking as people think it is, there were better performances last year that should have taken the cake - Rachel McAdams being No 1. In totality, Barbie was not even a perfect adaptation - if there was an award for most confusing story, it'll definitely go to Greta but that Director nomination should be far from her. The Barbie story was so confusing and its message quite excruciating and preachy i.e. people got so many mixed messages trying to fix the confusing legos of her story which was what she should've done herself. Also, can't believe people actually think Robbie had a great performance in Barbie, the only reason she's still an actress is because of her face - she's been playing one sided characters all her life and it shows. It'ld have been a disgrace if she got nominated ahead of better counterparts who really deserves it 1 Like |

ErenXSatoru: While I respect your take on America Ferrera's performance, I also think it's crucial to acknowledge the subjective nature of film appreciation. Rachel McAdams is undoubtedly a talented actress, but let's not forget that the Oscars are a competitive arena with a myriad of factors influencing nominations. Plus, don't you think dismissing Margot Robbie solely based on her looks might be a tad unfair? Sure, aesthetics can open doors, but sustained success in the film industry requires more than a pretty face. Robbie's track record does boast versatility, even if her roles may seem one-sided to you. 2 Likes |

JessicaRabbit:First bolded, I'm actually talking about the acting between Ferrera and McAdams - McAdams was way better in Are you there God, it's me Margaret - Ferrera was only given that nomination because of her Men are evil speech - only that scene About Margot - her roles have always been one dimensional - The Wolf of Wall Street, The Suicide Squad, Babylon, I, Tonya, Once upon a time in Hollywood - they've all been the same characters all the time - she may be a good actress but we dont actually know that yet. Take a look at Emma Stone and Charlize Theron works - although they're all beautiful looking actresses - there movie roles have multiple dimensions - Monster is a good example - Charlize Theron totally killed that role when everyone thinks she was just a beautiful face 2 Likes |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by JessicaRabbit(f): 9:31pm On Jan 25 |
ErenXSatoru: We're still navigating the subjective waters of acting prowess. Beauty in performances lies in the eyes of the beholder, after all. Now, regarding Margot Robbie, let's not rush to pigeonhole her based on a few roles. While "The Wolf of Wall Street," "The Suicide Squad," and others may seem similar, the versatility test is a marathon, not a sprint. Emma Stone and Charlize Theron indeed showcase multifaceted performances, but let's not forget their careers have had time to bloom. Robbie's potential may yet unfold in roles that stretch beyond the expected. As for Theron in "Monster", that was a metamorphosis indeed, but every actress deserves her own chrysalis moment. 2 Likes |

JessicaRabbit:You're actually making my point for me tho. Margot has potential to grow - we haven't seen her talents yet- she's still using pretty face to get work still. Take a look at Sydney - she actually had the same problems Margot has now but she took up a difficult role called Reality and that has changed my perception of her. Margot hasn't 1 Like |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by JessicaRabbit(f): 6:24am On Jan 26 |
ErenXSatoru: Look, I understand where you're coming from when you say Margot Robbie is still coasting on her looks. However, judging Robbie solely on her appearance is still a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, imo. Saying Robbie "uses pretty face to get work still" presents a limited view, and falls into a false dichotomy trap. Yes, she might get more auditions initially due to her looks, but landing and keeping roles requires actual talent. Look at her filmography: Harley Quinn in "Suicide Squad" was quirky and comedic, while Tonya Harding in "I, Tonya" demanded dramatic depth and physical transformation. These are vastly different characters, showcasing her range. 1 Like |
